Excel girls top visiting Bowdon


Whitney Harris and Kalli Beth Scheff of the Excel Christian Academy girls basketball team combined for 43 points as the Lady Eagles held off visiting Bowdon 57-50 in a Region 6-A game Tuesday night.


Harris, who finished with four three-pointers in the game and made nine of 14 free throws in the second half scored 22 points to lead the Lady Eagles. Scheff scored 14 of her 21 total points in the second half.

Excel led 13-7 after one period and 23-20 at halftime. The Lady Eagles then outscored the Lady Red Devils 18-10 in the third quarter to take a 41-30 lead into the final period.


Maci Holloway scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half to lead Bowdon in scoring. She was followed by teammates Rylee Robins and Lake Thompson with 13 and eight points, respectively.


Rylie Boston scored nine points for Excel. Brighton McCollum added three points and Lindsey Mauldin two for the Lady Eagles.


Bowdon fell to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in Region 6-A with the loss. The Lady Eagles (7-3, 3-1) play at Gordon Lee Friday in a 6pm tip.





BOWDON BOYS 92, EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 24


The visiting Red Devils improved to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in Region 6-A with a win at ECA Tuesday night.


Octavius Meadows led all scorers with 26 points for Bowdon. Zach Ledbetter added 17. Dylan Drew led the Eagles with 10 points. Taylor McDaniel scored six.


Excel (0-8, 0-3) plays at Gordon Lee Friday.
