Lady Cats get first win, Woodland boys fall to Hiram


The Woodland girls basketball team won for the first time this season Wednesday night in a Region 7AAAAA home game.


The Lady Cats 40-31 victory over visiting Hiram snapped a 17-game loss string.



Freshman Carli Clymer led Woodland with 13 points and Lexie Robinson added 10 points. Danielle Downes contributed seven points for the Lady Cats and Madgie Robinson finished with five.


Woodland led 12-2 after one period, 17-12 at halftime, and held a 28-19 advantage after three quarters. The two teams each scored 12 points in the final period.


Hiram slipped to 5-16 overall and 4-8 in Region 7AAAAA.


Woodland (1-17, 1-11) plays at county rival Cass Friday at 7pm and will travel to Rockmart Saturday afternoon for a 2pm tip.




HIRAM BOYS 43, WOODLAND 24


The visiting Hornets led 11-5 after one period, 19-10 at the intermission, and 31-20 through three quarters on their way to a 19-point road win. Meanwhile, Woodland lost its 17th consecutive game.


Justice Hayes scored 13 points for the Wildcats. Justice Carter posted seven points. Jaylen Ballard and D.J. Robinson added two points each.


Hiram improved to 9-12 overall and 7-5 in Region 7AAAAA.


Woodland (1-17, 0-12) plays at county and region rival Cass Friday night.
