Colonels, Lady Colonels collect region wins; ECA drops pair at Darlington


The Cass girls and boys basketball teams swept visiting Rome Thursday night in Region 7AAAAA games while the teams from Excel Christian Academy suffered Region 6A losses in Rome at Darlington.

 

CASS GIRLS 61, ROME 57


The Cass Lady Colonels continued what has been a hot streak in January Thursday night with a 61-57 home win over Region 7AAAAA opponent Rome.


The win was the 13th in the last 14 games for Cass who won for the 17th time this season.


Cass led 19-12 after one period and held a 37-31 lead at halftime. Rome pulled to within one after three quarters at 48-47, but the Lady Colonels held on for their four-point win in the final period.


Jana Morning led three Cass players in double figures with 19 points. Kyla Michienzi scored 16 and Payton Stoddard scored 10. Chanel Clemmons contributed eight points for the Lady Colonels, followed by Esmeralda Thomas with seven and Lyric Curtis added one point.


Rome fell to 15-5 overall and 8-4 in Region 7AAAAA.


Cass (17-4, 10-3) hosts Woodland Friday night with tip scheduled for 7pm.





CASS BOYS 49, ROME 41


The Colonels held off Rome Thursday night for an important Region 7AAAAA win at home.


Ashton Burley led Cass with 15 points followed by 12 each from C.J. Bennett and Ian Whittington.


Rome slipped to 7-12 overall and 2-10 in region games with the loss.


Cass improved to 16-6 overall and 10-3 in region play with the victory. The Colonels host county rival Woodland Friday night in another Region 7AAAAA tilt.





DARLINGTON GIRLS 53, EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 31


The Darlington Lady Tigers took a 24-8 lead after one quarter and held a 33-17 advantage by halftime on their way to a 53-31 defeat of visiting ECA Thursday night.


Caroline Dingler and Anna Claire Atha led Darlington with 19 and 12 points, respectively.


Rylee Boston led all Excel scorers with 12 points. Landry McCollum scored six; Kalli Beth Scheff five; Brighton McCollum and Whitney Harris scored three points; Bailey Cox added two.


Darlington remained unbeaten in Region 6A at 11-0. The Lady Tigers are 17-5 overall.


Excel (10-6, 6-4) hosts Gordon Lee Friday night with tip scheduled for 6pm.





DARLINGTON BOYS 65, EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 32


Darlington led 16-5 after one quarter and 39-11 at halftime before cruising to a Region 6A home win over the visiting Eagles Thursday night.


JT Mumber led Darlington (14-4, 8-2) with 20 points JD Hull scored eight.


Dylan Drew scored eight points for Excel. Kyrie Tucker and Jacob Murray added seven points each.


ECA hosts Gordon Lee Friday night continuing to seek their first win of the year.
