Lady Canes, Troup County split playoff doubleheader


Cartersville softball rallied from behind Saturday for a 12-6 win in the second game of a doubleheader to even the best-of-three Region 5-AAAA playoff series with Troup County.


Troup won the first game of the day, 10-9.


The Lady Canes trailed 6-5 heading into the fifth inning, but tied the game with a run in that frame and took control with a six-run sixth inning.


Cartersville out hit Troup eleven to four in the second game and the Lady Tigers committed five errors.


Anna Kate McElhaney (3.2 IP, 0R, 1H, 2BB, 2K) picked up the pitching win for Cartersville in relief of starter Colbi Ballard (3.1 IP, 6R, 4ER, 3H, 6BB, 1K).


Allie Jackson had three hits and three RBIs for the Lady Canes. Hope Short (RBI) and Anna Kate McElhaney (double) both had a pair of hits. Cio Seigler (3 RBIs), Mattie Johnson (3 RBIs), Lauren McElhaney, and Paris Poston (double) added one hit each.




TROUP 10, CARTERSVILLE 9



In the first game Cartersville led 6-2 going into the final two innings, but Troup posted three runs in the sixth inning and five more in the top of the seventh inning to generate the margin of victory.


The Lady Canes out hit the Lady Tigers 15 to eight and still held an 8-5 lead going to the final frame, but Troup scored five runs in the top of the seventh.


Cartersville scored a run in their final inning and had two in scoring position, but could not muster the go-ahead run.


Kayla Lane drove in six runs for Troup County on three hits that included the go-ahead hit in the seventh inning and a sixth inning home run. Mackenzie Miller drove in two runs with one hit for the Tigers.


Abby Taylor (7 IP, 9R, 4ER, 15H, 3BB, 3K) was the pitching winner in a complete game effort for Troup. Lauren McElhaney (7 IP, 10R, 9ER, 8H, 7BB) also went the distance for Cartersville.


Cio Siegler doubled twice for the Lady Canes. Paris Poston (3 RBI), Kalli Scheff (RBI), Colbi Ballard (RBI), Allie Jackson, and Hope Short had two hits each for Cartersville. Lauren McElhaney, Anna Kate McElhaney, and Rylie Harris had one hit each.


Troup (10-14) returns to Cartersville (9-15) Tuesday at 5 pm for Game 3 of the series. The winning team secures a berth in the Class AAAA state playoffs.
