BCRD, CPRD 12U youth football teams open GRPA District 5 play with victories

The Cartersville Parks and Recreation Department and the Bartow County Parks and Recreation Department 12U all-star teams each picked up wins in their opening GRPA District 5 games Thursday night. Cartersville 12U blanked Gordon County on the road and Bartow County 12U topped Calhoun at Hamilton Crossing Park.


Cartersville 10U and 8U also picked up their initial wins of District 5 play and Bartow County's 10U team won an overtime thriller.

 

12U CARTERSVILLE 46, GORDON COUNTY 0


The Cartersville Parks and Recreation 12U all-stars won their opening District 5 game Thursday night at the Sonoraville Recreation Department Field by blanking Gordon County, 46-0.


Five different Cartersville players scored touchdowns and the defense forced five turnovers in a one-sided victory.



Trevor Harris scored a rushing touchdown and returned one of his three interceptions for a score to help lead Cartersville. Brelace Williams (1-yd. run), Kristian Lando (42-yd. run), McKaiden Reece (3 yd. run), and Christian Wood (4-yd. run) each added rushing touchdowns.


Reece recorded nine tackles, including two for loss. K.J. Johnson had a pair of tackles and forced a fumble. Devan Curtis converted four of five PATs.


Cartersville 12U plays Calhoun Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Calhoun Recreation Department field.





12U BARTOW COUNTY 28, CALHOUN 8



The Bartow County Parks and Recreation Department 12U all-stars returned a pair of kickoffs for touchdowns and Malachi Jeffries ran for two more scores in a 28-8 defeat of Calhoun Thursday night at Hamilton Crossing Park.


Bartow’s Devin Henderson returned the game’s opening kickoff 67 yards for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead after a failed extra point, but Calhoun answered on their first possession with a drive to take an 8-6 lead.


Caleb Cooley returned the ensuing kickoff 70 yards for a Bartow County touchdown. After the 2-point PAT kick Bartow led 14-8 and took that lead into the intermission.


Bartow padded their lead in the second half with a 50-yard touchdown jaunt by Jeffries in the third quarter and a 10-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.


Bartow's next game is Tuesday at the Sonoraville Recreation Department Field where they will play Gordon County.





10U BARTOW COUNTY 20, CALHOUN 14 (overtime)


Isaiah LIvsey had a 47-yard touchdown run in regulation and a 12-yard scoring run in overtime as the 10U Bartow County all-stars outlasted Calhoun Thursday night at the Calhoun Recreation Department Field.


The Bartow defense also had a goal line stand stopping Calhoun on a fourth and goal at the one yard line. Ja'kai Baldwin had the other Bartow County touchdown on a 47-yard scamper.


Bartow County's next game is Tuesday night at Hamilton Crossing Park against Gordon County.




10U CARTERSVILLE 44, GORDON COUNTY 0


JaCaiden Leonard and Baylon Long each scored a pair of rushing touchdowns to help lead 10U Cartersville to a 44-0 shutout of Gordon County Thursday night at Dellinger Park.


Leonard had scoring runs of 53 and 27 yards. Long's runs were 26 yards and one yard. Jakeveon Porter added a 20-yard touchdown run and Brodie McWhorter connected with Jabari Davis on a 50-yard touchdown pass in the victory.


Cartersville plays at Cahoun Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The game will be at the Calhoun Recreation Department Field.





8U CARTERSVILLE 37, GORDON COUNTY 0


Pyerston Chambers had touchdown runs of 55- and 58-yards Thursday night at Dellinger Park as 8U Cartersville shutout Gordon County, 37-0.


Jovanni Bautista-Jackson had a 53-yard touchdown run and Chris McClendon added an 8-yard rushing score.


Tyonne Coe picked off a Gordon County pass and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown.


Zack Parker and Clint Hosea connected three times for two-point conversions. Solomon James added a PAT run.


Cartersville plays at Calhoun Saturday at 10 a.m. The game will be at the Calhoun Recreation Department Field.
