Lady Colonels open hoops campaign with road win


The Cass Lady Colonels opened their 2017-18 basketball season Wednesday night at Cumberland Christian Academy in Austell with a 69-36 victory.


Cass led 9-3 after one quarter and 26-16 at halftime in a tightly contested first half.


The Lady Colonels then broke the game open by outscoring the Lady Patriots 21-6 in the third quarter to take a 47-22 advantage on their way to a 33-point win.


Cumberland Christian slipped to an 0-2 record on the young season.


Kyla Michienzi led Cass with 20 points. She was followed by Payton Stoddard with 13 and Alexis Ware with 10 points.


Lyric Curtis contributed eight points. Chanel Clemmons added six. Sharia Wade scored four and Amber Brittian chipped in two points.


Cass (1-0) is now off for more than two weeks. The Lady Colonels play next at Rome on Friday, December 1.


The Cass boys did not play Wednesday. The Colonels begin their season Friday near Augusta in the Evans High School Tip-Off Classic. The Cass boys will play Hephzibah Friday at 7pm and Thomson Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm.
