Woodland, Cass drop boys hoops match-ups Saturday

Zander Hamilton scored all 16 of his points in the second half and Malik Shields led Thomson with 21 points as the Bulldogs handed the Cass boys their first loss of the 2017-18 season at the Evans Tip-Off Classic Saturday afternoon near Augusta.


The Colonels trailed 20-12 after one quarter and 30-26 at halftime, but the offensive surge from Hamilton helped the Bulldogs to a 50-38 lead after three quarters and the eventual 10-point win.


Aubrey Ivery added 11 points for Thomson and Quay Jackson had nine.


Mark Chester led Cass with 16 points. He was followed by Justice Hayes and Ashton Burley with 15 and 12, respectively. Carter Hedden scored six points on a pair of three-pointers. Ethan Carter and Markeldrick Powell also added three points each for Cass.


The Colonels (1-1) host South Paulding Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.





NORTH PAULDING BOYS 55, WOODLAND 34


The Woodland boys basketball team lost 55-34 Saturday to North Paulding at the Paulding County Tip-Off Classic.


North Paulding (1-0) led 16-14 after one quarter but expanded their lead to 41-18 at halftime by outscoring the Wildcats 25-4 in the second period.


Dylan Sloss scored 12 points to lead the Wolfpack in their win. Kevin Wirth added 10 points and Kellan Autenreith scored nine.


Sophomore guard Charles Norman scored 10 points to lead Woodland. Peyton Roberts and Dustin Ivie scored five points each. Justice Carter added three points. DJ Roberts, Kyjuan McLendon, and RJ Beaubrun scored two points each.


Woodland (1-1) plays again Monday and Tuesday at the Paulding County tournament. The opponents to be determined.
