Colonels, Lady Colonels win tourney openers


The Cass girls and boys basketball teams won opening round games Wednesday evening at the Chattooga Christmas Classic in Summerville.

 

CASS BOYS 65, CALHOUN 28


The Colonels allowed only eight points in the second half Wednesday night and cruised to a 65-28 win over Calhoun in the opening round of the Chattooga Christmas Classic in Summerville.


Justice Hayes led Cass with 13 points. Ethan Carter and Carter Hedden each added 11 to help lead the Colonels.


Cass led 29-20 at halftime before outscoring the Yellow Jackets 36-8 in the second half.


Calhoun slipped to 1-5 on the season.


The Colonels (6-3) play Chattahoochee of Region 7-6A Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the tournament semifinals. The Cougars defeated Darlington Wednesday in the first round, 56-44.




CASS GIRLS 65, PEACHTREE RIDGE 59


The Lady Colonels won a hard fought battle with Class 7A Peachtree Ridge Wednesday evening in the opening round of the Chattooga Christmas Classic in Summerville.


Cass led 29-22 at halftime and extended their lead to 44-32 after three quarters before holding on for a seven-point victory.


Payton Stoddard led the Lady Colonels with 21 points. Amber Brittian followed with 15 and Sharia Wade scored 10 points. Kyla Michienzi scored seven points and Lyric Curtis added six. Chanel Clemmons, Aaliyah Curtis, and Alexis Ware scored two points each.


Peachtree Ridge falls to 5-5 with the loss.


Cass (7-2) advances to the tournament semifinals Thursday at 4 p.m. to face Woodstock.
