Saturday high school hoops: Canes rally for key road win at LaGrange

CARTERSVILLE BOYS 64, LaGRANGE 60


The Hurricanes trailed by 13 points late in the third quarter, but rallied late to outlast the host LaGrange Grangers Saturday evening, 64-60, in a Region 5-AAAA battle.


T.J. Horton scored 25 points to lead Cartersville. Bo Russell led the Grangers (10-6, 1-2) with 27 points. Perignon Dyer converted five three-pointers to contribute 15 points for the Canes. Jaylon Pugh followed with 13.


Cartersville (10-2, 3-0) entertains Sandy Creek in another important region game Tuesday night at the Storm Center.




LaGRANGE GIRLS 46, CARTERSVILLE 35


Aryan Dozier and Mo Strozier scored 18 points each to help lead the Lady Grangers to a home win over Cartersville Saturday afternoon in a Region 5-AAAA game.


LaGrange (6-9, 3-0) led 13-8 after one quarter, 20-19 at halftime, and built a 34-24 lead after three quarters on their way to an 11-point victory.


Cio Seigler led the Lady Canes with 13 points. Kalli Scheff scored seven. Addie Smith and Amya Davis followed with six points apiece. Ariana Cochran added three points.


Cartersville (5-8, 0-3) hosts Sandy Creek Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at the Storm Center.




ROCKMART GIRLS 53, ADAIRSVILLE 52


The Lady Jackets made a free throw with 0:20 remaining to take a one point lead that proved to be the margin of victory. The Lady Tigers had a shot at the end and a pair of follow up attempts on offensive rebounds, but were unable to convert in the one-point loss. Rockmart won the first meeting between these teams earlier in the year by 31 points.


Adairsville led 19-15 after one quarter and the game was tied at 27-all at halftime. The Lady Tigers held a 42-38 edge heading into the final period, but were unable to hold on.


Keyarah Berry had a game-high 26 points for Rockmart followed by Madison Davis with 10.


Nakiyah Washington led Adairsville with 16 points. Josie Summerville and Havyn Isaac followed with 11 and 10 points, respectively.


Coriana McDaniel contributed seven, Breeana Wilson six, and Alexa Varner two points.


Rockmart improved to 10-4 on the season. Adairsville (2-13) plays at Haralson County Tuesday at 6 p.m.



ROCKMART BOYS 51, ADAIRSVILLE 45


Although the Tigers went into the final period tied and Mason Boswell finished with a game-high 21 points, Adairsville lost Saturday night at Rockmart 51-45.


Rockmart led 9-7 after one quarter, but Adairsville took a 26-24 lead into the locker room at halftime in the back-and-forth non-region battle.


Sam Depew led the Yellow Jackets with 16. He scored 13 of those points in the decisive second half.


Hunter Hice and Cody Henderson each contributed nine points for the Tigers.

Rockmart improved to 9-5 on the season with the victory.

Adairsville (7-8, 3-3) plays at Haralson County Tuesday night.
