Colonels, Lady Colonels take Senior Night wins over Rockmart

The Cass basketball teams both trailed early Saturday, but both came-from-behind to earn non-region, Senior Night wins over visiting Rockmart.

The Lady Colonels won 69-60. The Colonels defeated the Yellow Jackets 53-43.

The Cass girls fell behind 21-9 after one quarter, but rallied in the second period to get back in the game trailing 33-27 at the intermission. The Lady Colonels outscored Rockmart 24-14 in the third quarter to take a four point lead and held off the Jackets down the stretch for a nine-point win.

Kyla Michienzi and Lyric Curtis led Cass in scoring with 26 and 19 points, respectively. Payton Stoddard added 11, followed by Amber Brittian with seven, Aaliyah Curtis with four, and Chanel Clemmons two points.

Keyarrah Berry scored a game-high 27 points for Rockmart (11-6, 5-2 Region 7-AA). Cambree Stanley added 11.

The Lady Colonels (11-7, 4-5 Region 7-AAAAA) have four region games in the coming week. Cass travels to Hiram Tuesday, hosts East Paulding Wednesday, plays at Woodland Friday, and at Kell on Saturday.


The Colonels rallied from an early five point deficit in the second quarter Saturday to take a brief lead but eventually knot their game with Rockmart 21-21 at halftime.

Carter Hedden had eight points in the first half and Mark Chester led the Colonels’ balanced attack with 10 points.

Rockmart slipped to 10-7 overall with their loss.

Cass (11-7, 4-5 Region 7-AAAAA) travels to Hiram Tuesday, hosts East Paulding Wednesday, plays at Woodland Friday, and travels to Kell on Saturday. All four games are region contests.
