Canes fall in region finals


The Cartersville boys lost to Sandy Creek Saturday night in the Region 5-AAAA Championship game, 62-51.


Jarred Godfrey led Sandy Creek with 24 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. TJ Bickerstaff added 11 points, 18 boards, and three assists for the Patriots.


The Canes fell behind 13-0 in the opening quarter, but rallied to take a lead into halftime and led by as many as seven in the third quarter.


Sandy Creek (22-5) regained the lead and took a five point advantage into the final minutes. Cartersville was forced to foul late and the Patriots converted for an eventual 11-point win.


Jaylon Pugh led Cartersville with 18 points. T.J. Horton scored 14 and Perignon Dyer added 13 points.


Cartersville (19-6) will host Heritage-Catoosa (16-12) Saturday in the opening round of the Class AAAA state tournament. The Generals are the third place team from Region 6-AAAA.
