Mosby selected in NBA G-League Draft
Former Cartersville High School basketball standout A.J. Mosby was selected Saturday in the second round of the 2018 NBA G-League Draft (36th overall) by the Northern Arizona Suns.
The 6-3 guard was a Second Team, All-Southwestern Athletic Conference player at Alcorn State in his final two collegiate seasons. He was also a former All-Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association player for Chattahoochee Tech.
Following his senior season as team captain at Alcorn State, Mosby was named Second Team HBCU All-America after leading the Braves in scoring, assists, steals, three-point percentage, and free throw percentage. He netted 27 double-figure scoring games in 2017-18 including six, 20-plus contests. On the season, Mosby averaged 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game in 32.2 minutes per outing with a 1.9 assist:turnover ratio. He helped the Braves lead the SWAC in assists per game with 13.1 as a team.
Mosby shot .400 from beyond-the-arc which ranks third all-time in Alcorn single-season history and .866 from the free throw line which ranks second in the school's single-season record book.
He completed his junior college career as Chatt Tech’s all-time leading scorer and while at Cartersville High helped lead the Canes to their best single-season record in history at 27-2.
The 27-team NBA G-League is the official minor league for the NBA. The league plays a 50-game regular season schedule that runs through March 23.
The regular season is followed by a four-round, 12-team playoff format
Northern Arizona opens its season this Saturday afternoon at the UCLA Health Training Center in Los Angeles against the South Bay Lakers at 3 p.m.
