Friday's boys hoops roundup: Adairsville, Cartersville, Cass pick up region wins


The Adairsville, Cartersville, and Cass boys basketball teams all picked up region wins Friday night.

 

ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 53, LAKEVIEW-FO 44


Adairsville held on for a nine-point Region 6-AAA victory Friday night at home as the Tigers celebrated their 2018-19 seniors. Adairsville built a 28-15 lead by halftime, but visiting Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe stormed back into the game in the third quarter to only trail by three points entering the final eight minutes. The Tigers then outscored the Warriors 16-10 in the fourth quarter for a 53-44 win.


Four Tigers finished with double figure scoring. Gaven Crunkelton had 14 points. Mason Boswell finished with 13. Danarous Johnson and Malachi Gardner posted 10 points each. Savaun Henderson, Diego Perez, and Jaxon Welchel rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.


Ruddy Ware led LFO (11-11, 7-7) with 23 points. Adairsville (8-15, 6-8) wraps up the regular season on the road next week at Haralson County Tuesday and at Murray County next Friday.




CASS BOYS 70, VILLA RICA 51


The Colonels outscored visiting Villa Rica 17-5 in the second quarter Friday night to take a 32-20 lead at halftime on their way to a 19-point Region 7-AAAAA win. Jacquez Fountain led Cass with 21 points. He was followed by Ethan Carter with 10. Zaylan Chaney scored nine. Braxton Benham and Jaylon Johnson contributed eight apiece while Justice Hayes added seven. Xavion Sparks led Villa Rica with 13 points. The Wildcats slipped to 9-12 overall and 4-9 in region action.


Cass (13-11, 8-7) will wrap up the regular season Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Hiram.




CARTERSVILLE BOYS 74, LAGRANGE 70


The Canes continued their stronghold on second place in Region 5-AAAA Friday night with a 74-70 win at LaGrange. Cartersville led 19-14 after one quarter and built a 36-21 lead by halftime, but the host Grangers narrowed the lead to six points at 52-46 heading into a tightly contested fourth quarter. Perignon Dyer led the Hurricanes with 30 points. Kolbe Benham followed with 18. Amarai Orr knocked down eight points. Isaac Gridley contributed seven. Micah Tart had six points and Marquail Coaxum added three. Vondez Taylor paced LaGrange (11-11, 3-6) with 18 points.


Cartersville (12-10, 6-3) plays at region-leading Sandy Creek Saturday at 4:30 p.m.




HIRAM 60, WOODLAND BOYS 44


Javyen Brown paced Hiram with 21 points while Arshad Crepsac and Nate Presnell added 12 each as the Hornets topped visiting Woodland Friday night, 60-44.


Hiram (8-15, 3-11) held leads of 15-12 after one quarter, 30-19 at halftime, and 44-29 after three quarters. Hunter Johnson and Jaylen Ballard paced Woodland with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Justice Carter added seven for the Wildcats. Woodland (4-18, 1-13) plays at Carrollton next Tuesday and at Villa Rica next Friday. Both games are 7:30 p.m. starts.




MT. ZION-CARROLL 81, EXCEL CHRISTIAN BOYS 53


Ty Farley scored 23 points and Breon Henderson added 14 as Mt. Zion-Carroll downed Excel Christian Friday night 81-53. Rayshawn Womack led Excel with 13 points. Trippe Anderson added 11.


Mt. Zion-Carroll improved to 13-8 overall and 7-5 in Region 6-A.


Excel (4-18, 1-11) hosts Christian Heritage Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Bowdon next Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
