Woodland drops games at Carrollton


Making up games moved from this past Tuesday night due to school cancellations, the Woodland girls and boys dropped Region 7-AAAAA contests on the road Thursday evening at Carrollton. The Lady Trojans won the girls matchup 48-24 and the Carrollton boys took the nightcap, 62-50.

 

CARROLLTON 48, WOODLAND GIRLS 24


De’Mauri Flauney led Carrollton and all scorers in the game with 20 points while teammate Keninde Obasuyi added 13 as the 9th-ranked Lady Trojans prevailed over Woodland Thursday night, 48-24. Carrollton, who has secured the No. 2-seed heading into the region tournament, trailed Woodland 5-4 after one quarter before taking an 18-9 lead at halftime. The Lady Trojans extended their lead to 30-14 after three quarters on their way to a 24-point win. Madgie Robinson led Woodland with seven points.


Carrollton improved to 18-6 overall and 13-2 in region play. Woodland (1-21, 1-14) finishes the regular season Friday night at top-ranked and undefeated Villa Rica.





CARROLLTON 62, WOODLAND BOYS 50


The host Trojans took a 24-17 lead after one quarter Thursday night and never trailed in securing a 62-50 Region 7-AAAAA win over visiting Woodland. Carrollton (15-8, 12-3) is currently deadlocked with Paulding County in a race for the No. 2-seed in next week’s region tournament. The Trojans have a home date with East Paulding Friday night while Paulding hosts region-leader Kell. Thursday night, Carrollton led Woodland 36-25 at the intermission and maintained that lead through three quarters at 49-38 on their way to a 12-point victory.


Melvin Edwards led Carrollton with 21 points. Marcellious Lockett and Jeff Hodges followed with 16 and 10 points, respectively.


Dawson Wilkins (photo) scored 17 points for Woodland. Jaylen Ballard posted 10. Hunter Johnson tossed in nine points. Justice Carter tallied seven. Peyton Roberts contributed three points while Kyjuan McLendon and DiAnthony Heathcock added two apiece.


For the Wildcats (4-19, 1-14), it was their ninth-straight loss since upsetting the Trojans at home on January 4.


Woodland wraps up regular season play Friday night at Villa Rica at 7:30 p.m.
