Canes take first-round lead at the GHSA Class 4A State Tournament

The Cartersville High School boys’ golf team started strong and holds the first-round lead following Monday’s opening round of the GHSA Class 4A State Championship Tournament at the 6,415-yard, par-71 Savannah Golf Club.


Junior Bodie Brumlow shot a 6-under-par 65, helping the Hurricanes to a team total of 1-over-par and an eleven-shot lead over second-place North Oconee.


The final round of the 36-hole event will be held on Tuesday in Savannah. The best four scores for each six-man team count toward the team's total.


Marist is in third place after the opening eighteen holes at 19-over par, followed by Benedictine Military (+24) and Westminster (+26).


Sophomore Reid Henson shot an even-par 71 for the Canes and is tied for third individually behind Brumlow and Liam Minton of Perry, who carded a 1-under-par 70. Cartersville senior Carsen Stanfield is tied for ninth after a first-round 74, while seniors Carter Rice and Griffin Woodall shot 75 and 76, respectively. Sophomore Ramsey Dunn completed the Canes’ scorecard with an opening round 79.

The Cartersville High girls' golf team shot 288 and is eighth of twelve teams following the first round of the GHSA Class 4A State Tournament at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah.


The final round of the 36-hole championship is on Tuesday.


Cartersville freshman Anna Jo Culverhouse is in 16th place individually after carding an opening round 90. Sophomore Reese Hertel shot 97, and freshman Mia Miller finished with a first-round 101. Sophomore Addie Feuerbach and junior Ginny Hackney rounded out the Lady Canes' scoring with 104 and 110, respectively. The best three scores count toward the team total.


North Oconee shot 243 to hold the first round lead by twelve shots over Madison County (255). Marist is in third place at 257.
