August 15, 2025 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com LaGrange scored 14 points off turnovers, and the Grangers’ defense allowed just 209 total yards Friday night at Barron Stadium in Rome as they defeated the Cass Colonels 27-7 in a game played as part of the 34th Corky Kell-Dave Hunter Kickoff Classic. A Final Four team in Class 3A last season, LaGrange led 20-0 at halftime and took a 27-0 lead early in the fourth quarter before the Colonels mounted a late touchdown drive. The Grangers threatened to score on their first possession. Quarterback Dylan Barber ran for 55 yards to the Cass 4-yard line, but a high snap on the next play resulted in a fumble, and the Colonels thwarted the drive. Cass drove to the LaGrange 27-yard line on their first possession, but the drive stalled with four consecutive incomplete passes. Cass running back Jerome Sanders had a 43-yard gallop on the first play, and Kalil Charles had two carries for eight more. The two teams exchanged punts on their next possessions, and when LaGrange punted again from their 11-yard line, the Colonels’ returners collided and mishandled the kick, allowing the Grangers to recover at the Cass 39-yard line. On first down, Mason Calhoun of LaGrange completed a halfback pass to Jardon Stringer for 38 yards to the Cass 1-yard line. Running back Peyton Davis punched it in on the next play, and the Grangers were up 7-0 following a Sammy Rodas kick with 3:53 remaining in the first quarter. The Cass offense drove 62 yards in 11 plays on their next possession, but came up empty. Rushes by Sanders, Kalil Charles, and quarterback Brodie McWhorter, plus a pass completion from McWhorter to Jeremy Barrett, moved the Colonels to the LaGrange 7-yard line for a 4th and 5. Coach Steve Gates opted for a 24-yard field goal attempt that was missed wide left. LaGrange picked up three first downs on their next possession, but punted to pin the Colonels at their own 3-yard line. On third down, McWhorter was sacked in the end zone and fumbled. Jamarcus Benton of the Grangers recovered the ball for a touchdown that made the score 14-0 with 1:47 left in the first half. Cass went three-and-out on the ensuing possession, and LaGrange took over at their own 38-yard line with just 1:09 remaining before halftime. Barber had back-to-back scramble plays to reach the Cass 26-yard line and completed a 7-yard pass to Kalvin Snowberger at the 19-yard line with 0:40 remaining in the half. Following two incompletions and a procedure penalty, Barber connected again with Snowberger for a 24-yard touchdown with 0:18 showing on the first half clock. The Grangers’ PAT kick failed, but they had a 20-0 advantage at the intermission. The Colonels managed only four yards on their three possessions in the third quarter, and LaGrange launched its final scoring drive with 3:53 remaining in the period. Ten running plays moved the Grangers to the Cass 14-yard line, where Barber connected with Julian Jones for a touchdown and a 27-0 lead with 9:05 left in the game.  Cass drove 80 yards in 10 plays with their next drive to avoid a shutout. McWhorter completed passes to Barrett, Andrew Williams, Chase Tatum, and Jahlil Anderson during the drive. The scoring play was a 36-yard catch by Anderson with 4:54 remaining. Anthony Quijada added the extra point for a 27-7 final score. Barber finished 7-for-13 passing for 75 yards and two touchdowns for LaGrange. He also rushed for 113 yards on 10 attempts. Caydin Thomas added 58 yards rushing on 15 carries. McWhorter was 11-for-22 passing for 118 yards and one touchdown for the Colonels. Sanders added 77 rushing yards on 13 attempts. Anderson caught two passes for 49 yards and one touchdown, while Jeremy Barrett caught six passes for 31 yards. Tyson Beauford and Malachi Harris had seven total tackles for the Cass defense. Eli Simmons and Naz Fleurine followed with five. LaGrange (1-0) visits Early County next Friday. Cass (0-1) will look to bounce back with a trip to Model on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

August 16, 2025 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com On Friday night, running back Ethan Corpus effectively stepped in for Allatoona star and Georgia Tech commit, Xavier Rucker, as the host Buccaneers triumphed over the Adairsville Tigers with a score of 42-6. Corpus ran for three touchdowns, and the Bucs’ defense forced three turnovers to keep Adairsville at bay in both teams’ season opener. Allatoona set the tone early in the first quarter with Corpus capping a crisp 5-play, 65-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge. Bucs’ kicker Wilson Perry added the first of five extra points for a 7-0 lead. On their next possession, an Allatoona drive stalled when Perry’s 36-yard field goal attempt was swatted away, keeping the score 7-0. Adairsville failed to take advantage, however, and with 1:04 left in the quarter, quarterback Braxton Elrod’s pass was picked off by Bucs’ corner John Arnold. Another Tigers’ turnover led to the next Allatoona scoring play. Elrod fumbled at his 17-yard line, and the Buccaneers pounced, needing just three plays to cover the short field. Corpus punched in a 5-yard touchdown run with 3:04 remaining in the half, stretching the hosts’ lead to 14-0. Adairsville mounted a late drive before the half, moving 31 yards in eight plays, but Cooper Souders’ 38-yard field goal attempt with 0:42 remaining before the intermission sailed wide. The Bucs continued their offensive success in the second half. Corpus scored on an 8-yard touchdown run to cap a 7-play, 67-yard drive, pushing the score to 21-0 with 6:21 remaining in the third quarter. On their next possession, quarterback Frank Young connected with wideout Rhys Rooney for a 38-yard touchdown pass, capping a 6-play, 63-yard drive. Perry’s PAT made the score 28-0 through three quarters. In the fourth quarter, backup quarterback Hunter Griffin sprinted 11 yards for a Bucs’ touchdown with 10:35 left in the game. The drive covered 72 yards in eight plays and extended the Allatoona lead to 35-0 Adairsville got on the scoreboard with its ensuing possession. Elrod tossed a 58-yard touchdown pass to Colt Sanford to complete a 9-play, 80-yard drive, but a two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the score at 35-6. Allatoona responded swiftly, with a third quarterback, Jacob Wan, dashing 8 yards for a fifth Buccaneers’ touchdown with 6:17 remaining. The quick, 3-play drive covered 66 yards and made it 42-6. Adairsville had one final possession that ended with 1:44 remaining when Elrod threw his second interception of the night. Allatoona (1-0) plays at South Paulding next Friday. August 15, 2025 The Adairsville Lady Tigers split matches played Thursday at Cass by defeating the Lady Colonels 25-22 and 25-12 before falling to the Pickens Dragons 13-25 and 24-26. In the win over Cass, Alexis Scott had four kills for the Tigers. Ella Steward finished with three kills and one block, while Nadelyn Dodson added nine digs. Savannah Viktora and Myka Colston contributed three kills in the Adairsville loss to Pickens. Dodson added eight service receptions and five digs. Adairsville (1-5) hosts the Welcome to the Jungle Tournament on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. In other action at Cass on Thursday, the Lady Colonels (0-4) lost to Pickens 8-25 and 21-25. Cass returns to action on Tuesday at Adairsville and will also face Sonoraville. Woodland lost 11-25 and 14-25 to Bremen in a Thursday match at Armuchee High School. The Lady Cats also played Armuchee, but the score was not reported. Next for Woodland is a home match with Gordon Central on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

A suffocating Canes defense overwhelmed Columbia Thursday night, recording two touchdowns and three turnovers in a season-opening 44-0 thumping of the Eagles.  The game was played on Summer Hill Night, as alumni of Cartersville’s school for Black students before integration were honored before the game. One side of the Canes’ helmets portrayed a pitchfork decal in honor of Summer Hill’s Blue Devils’ athletic teams.  Cartersville was already up 21-0 midway through the second quarter when Jared Cooley pressured the Eagles quarterback into the sideline and an ill-advised throw that Cole Crawford plucked out of the air and returned for a score. The defensive line created another turnover in the backfield with five minutes to play, allowing AJ Townsend to scoop up a fumble and carry it in from 20 yards out.  Safety Reed Ezell also picked off a pass, though a penalty nullified his 17-yard return. The Canes' defense held Columbia to 183 yards on the night, with only 44 on the ground.  “I’m proud of our guys. They played really tough tonight,” said head coach Conor Foster. “That’s a talented team, especially up front, to be able to take the run away from them.” Crawford said his interception was a bit of being in the right place at the right time. That tends to happen with the kind of pursuit like the junior linebackers, but he was quick to give credit to the Canes' defensive line.  “I was just kind of going with the flow of the play and Cooley had him wrapped up,” he said. “It’s a lot easier when you have guys like we do up front. They’re freaky athletic and just do everything right. I give them a lot of credit for our success because they’re really great players.” It was Cartersville’s third straight win over Columbia and second shutout after last year’s 40-0 victory.  The Canes got on board on their second possession. After Nate Russell finished an 11-yard scramble down to the three, the junior rolled left on his next snap and found a wide-open Davis Waddell for the opening score that made it 7-0 after Ramsey Rowell’s kick with 6:46 left in the first quarter.  The Canes’ next drive came with a loud validation of the buzz surrounding newcomer Braylon Hill.  After a penalty backed the offense into a first-and-15 at the Columbia 47, Hill gathered a Russell pass at the 40 before meeting would-be tacklers at the 33. The running back kept himself upright after that collision by putting a hand on the Weinman turf. He then spun out of another tackle at the 20, and darted the rest of the way for the touchdown and 14-0 lead. Cartersville’s next drive was its most sustained of the night, going 70 yards on eight plays. The big play came as Russell connected with Madoxx Davis for 27 yards down to the Columbia 18. Three plays later, Tripp Chatmon bulled his way through the middle for a four-yard score, building the difference to 21-0 with 9:29 left in the first half.  After Crawford’s pick-six, Hill added the final touchdown of the first half with a five-yard run over left tackle into the north end zone that pushed the lead to 35-0.  Russell set up Cartersville’s next score from his new role as punter.. From midfield, the senior’s kick died at the one before rolling back a couple of yards and prompting the usually subdued Russell into mimicking a golf swing. Four plays later, a snap out of the back of the end zone on Columbia’s punt attempt tacked on a safety for a 37-0 lead.  Townsend’s return on the Eagles’ ensuing drive finished the scoring, but Columbia made a final push to get on the board amid a fourth-quarter running clock. After a short Canes kickoff and return placed the Eagles at the Cartersville 32, three plays put the visitors on the five-yard line. A final throw to the end zone as time ran out went wide, though.  The Canes head southwest on Highway 113 next Friday to face Rockmart. Kickoff is set for 7:30.

August 14, 2025 Three of the four local high school softball teams in action on Thursday collected region victories. WOODLAND 16, DALTON 2 Woodland softball peppered Dalton pitching with 14 hits Thursday en route to a 16-2 win on the Lady Catamounts' home field. The Lady Cats scored three runs or more in each of their four offensive frames in the road victory. Evelyne Tucker (2 IP, 1ER, 4H, 0BB, 2K) and Bella Kuykendall (2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 0BB, 1K) shared the pitching duties for Woodland. Kamryn Smith (triple, double, three RBi), Ashlyn Baines (sac fly, two RBI), Sis Pirkle (two doubles, two RBI), and Bailey Ryan (RBI) led the Lady Cats’ offense with two hits. Kylee Poston (double, three RBI), Bailey Gerstner (sac fly, RBI), Addy Bassett (RBI), Lillian Hollis, Charlotte Peterson, and Sonny Hicks added one hit. The loss dropped Dalton to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in Region 7-4A. Woodland (2-4, 1-2) hosts Hiram on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. CARTERSVILLE 8, SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 0 Lady Canes’ pitchers Zoie Shiflett and Presley Crabbe combined for a one-hitter in the circle, and Cartersville remained undefeated on the season with an 8-0 win at home over the Southeast Whitfield Lady Raiders. Shiflett allowed one hit and no walks with six strikeouts across the first four innings. Crabbe struck out the side in the fifth inning. Cartersville scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, scored four in the third, and added three more runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Canes produced ten hits. LaKiaya Banks finished with three hits, including one double, one triple, and one RBI. Shiflett produced two hits, including one home run with three RBI. Kinsey Woodard (sac fly, RBI), Miley Jo Williams (double, RBI), Addi Burns, Taryn Bradley, and Sam Porter contributed one hit. Sophia Harper added one RBI. The loss left Southeast Whitfield with a 1-4 record overall and 0-4 mark in Region 7-4A. Cartersville (7-0, 3-0) visits Allatoona on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. first pitch. CASS 10, HIRAM 0 Cass pitchers Kylie Gentry and Lily Powell combined for a six-inning no-hitter Thursday evening as the Lady Colonels won at Hiram, 10-0. The Lady Colonels posted five runs in the top of the first inning, added single runs in the third and fifth, and finished off their scoring with a three-run sixth. Gentry picked up the win in the circle, striking out nine in the first five innings. Powell struck out one in a scoreless sixth inning. Gentry also produced three hits and had three RBI for the Cass offense. Shyia Woods (RBI) and Molli Morrow contributed two hits. Bailey York (three RBI) and Harlee Thomason (RBI) added one hit. Hiram fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in Region 7-4A with the loss. Cass (5-3, 3-1) hosts region foe Cedartown on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. CALHOUN 3, ADAIRSVILLE 2 (8 innings) The Lady Tigers out-hit Calhoun 12 to six Thursday evening, but the host Lady Jackets managed a 3-2 walk-off win in the bottom of the eighth inning. Calhoun led 2-0 after one inning, but Adairsville knotted the score in the top of the fifth inning. Following two scoreless innings, the game entered an extra frame. Adairsville failed to score in the top of the eighth, and Calhoun put together a pair of hits in the bottom of the inning to walk off with the victory. Ashlyn Carlton (7.2 IP, 3ER, 6H, 1BB, 9K) suffered the tough pitching loss for the Tigers. Chloe Hill led the Adairsville offense with three hits and one RBI. Alivia Joslin, Ansley Powell (double), Ashlyn Carlton, and Maddie Baggett added two hits each. Ashlynn Durden (double, RBI) contributed one hit. Calhoun improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 7-3A. Adairsville (3-2, 1-1) hosts LaFayette on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.

August 13, 2025 Cartersville volleyball extended its season-opening win streak to nine Tuesday, following a strong showing at Hillgrove High School. The Lady Canes defeated the reigning Class 5A state champions, Pope, in their opener on Tuesday and followed with a straight-set victory over the host Hawks. Cartersville started slowly against Pope (3-2), narrowly dropping the first set 24-26. The Lady Canes quickly regrouped, however, to take the second set 25-19 and sealed the win over the Greyhounds with a 15-9 victory in the final set. Senior standout Jada Zimmerman led the offensive charge with eight kills, while Amara Ejieke and Holly Dufrene each added 8 of their own. Jacksonville State commit Riley Huff anchored the net with seven blocks, showcasing her defensive prowess. Emma Wall orchestrated the offense with 18 assists, supported by Aubree Barrett’s 11. On the defensive end, Coastal Carolina commit McKenzie Wilkie was a force, recording 24 digs. Cartersville defeated Hillgrove 25-16 and 25-14. Zimmerman once again led the attack with 11 kills, followed by Huff and Dufrene with five apiece. Huff, Dufrene, and Blakely Morris each contributed three blocks, reinforcing the team's strong net presence. Wall added 12 assists, and Wilkie continued her defensive dominance with 16 digs. The loss dropped Hillgrove to 2-5 on the season. The Lady Canes (9-0) return to action next Tuesday when they visit Mount Paran for matches against Holy Innocents and Mount Paran. ADAIRSVILLE DROPS TWO The Lady Tigers lost two matches on Tuesday at Coosa High School.   Adairsville fell in three sets to the host Eagles (28-26, 23-25, 11-15) and dropped a straight-set decision to Model (10-25 and 19-25). Ella Steward had eight kills and two blocks in the loss to Coosa. Alexis Scott added five kills. Nadelyn Dodson provided 10 digs against Model. The Lady Tigers host Cass and Pickens on Thursday. LADY COLONELS FALL IN SEASON OPENER Cass volleyball lost its season opener to Darlington in a match played at Pepperell High School. Darlington won in straight sets, 25-18 and 25-5, and improved to 8-0 on the season. Cass (0-2) also lost to Pepperell in straight sets on Tuesday. WOODLAND DROPS THREE-SET MATCH WITH PICKENS The Lady Cats lost their home opening match with visiting Pickens on Tuesday, falling in all three sets. The Dragons won 25-13, 25-19, and 25-11 and improved to 4-2 on the season. Katie Clowers paced Woodland (0-2) with four service aces, five digs, two assists, and seven service receptions. Camilla Ferguson contributed six assists. Alex Williams led the front line with three kills. Aby Childs had one kill, five digs, and one service ace.

August 12, 2025 Chad Branton Cartersville senior amateur golfer, Chad Branton, followed up his fourth-place finish at the GSGA Senior Amateur Championship last week with a runner-up finish Monday and Tuesday at the Georgia PGA Senior Open Championship held at Echelon Golf Club in Alpharetta. Branton led the field of 50-and-over amateurs and professionals after firing an opening round 66 on the 6,670-yard, par-72 layout. He led eventual winner, amateur Bob Royak of Alpharetta, by three shots heading into Tuesday’s final round. Royak carded back-to-back rounds of 69, while Branton shot 72 in the final round, sending the pair to a sudden-death playoff. Both players made par on the 420-yard, par-4 eighteenth hole during the first two holes of sudden death. They moved to the 370-yard, par-4 tenth hole for a third sudden-death hole where Royak won with a par. Matt Russell, another amateur of Chamblee, finished third with rounds of 70-71. Stephen Keppler of Acworth was the low professional with rounds of 75-67. Keppler tied amateurs Billy Mitchell of Atlanta and Garry Lindsay of Woodstock for fourth place. Other local representatives in the 122-player field included Charles Wilson of Cartersville, who tied for 42nd overall (80-75) and was 25th among amateurs in his final season in the Senior Division. Randy Charles of Acworth finished 20th in the Super Senior (65+) Division. Craig Hartle of White was 22nd, and Steve Sheffield of White was 24th among Super Seniors.

August 12, 2025 KK Evans The Lady Colonels scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning Tuesday night at home, and that was all they would score or need in a 3-1 Region 7-4A victory over Southeast Whitfield. The visiting Lady Raiders narrowed their deficit to 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, but Cass pitcher Kylie Gentry shut them down the rest of the way. Gentry went all seven innings in the circle, allowing one earned run on three hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. KK Evans had two hits — both triples — for the Lady Colonels. Bailey York (triple, two RBI), Gentry (double, RBI), Molli Morrow, and Harlee Thomason added one hit. Southeast Whitfield slipped to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in region play. August 12, 2025 The Lady Canes completed a two-game series sweep of Murray County on Monday evening in Chatsworth, winning 7-1. It was the second meeting for the two teams in three days. Cartersville edged Murray 1-0 on Saturday. On Monday, Cartersville took a 3-0 lead with single runs in the first, third, and fourth innings.  After the Indians narrowed the margin to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Cartersville put the game away with a four-run sixth inning. Presley Crabbe (7 IP, 1R, 0ER, 3H, 3BB, 9K) was the winning pitcher for the Lady Canes. LaKiaya Banks paced the Cartersville offense with three hits, including one double and three RBI. Sam Porter (triple, two RBI) and Taryn Bradley had two hits. Kinsey Woodard (home run, two RBI), Sophia Harper, and Carder Brock added one hit. Murray County fell to 0-3 with the loss. Cartersville (6-0, 2-0) visits Woodland for a Region 7-4A game on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

August 11, 2025 Following a tough tournament weekend where they dropped two of three games, the Cass Lady Colonels bounced back Monday with a 10-2 win in five innings at home over the Wheeler Wildcats. Lily Powell pitched all five innings for Cass, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and four walks. The hurler fanned ten of 21 batters faced. Cass scored four runs in the bottom of the second, added one in the third, and closed out the victory with five runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Colonels totaled fourteen hits. Kylie Gentry (two RBI), KK Evans (triple, two RBI), MJ McFarlane, Harlee Thomason (double), and Shyia Woods (double) had two hits. Rilyn Caspari (two RBI), Natalie Hughes, Molli Morrow, and Bailey York added one hit. The loss dropped Wheeler to 0-2 on the season. Cass (3-3, 1-1) hosts Southeast Whitfield on Tuesday in a Region 7-4A contest at 5:30 p.m. ADAIRSVILLE 8, NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 4 The Lady Tigers opened their 2025 Region 7-AAA schedule Monday with an 8-4 home win over Northwest Whitfield. Ashlyn Carlton went the distance in the circle to collect the pitching win. She allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out seven. Adairsville led 3-2 after one inning, and the visiting Bruins tied the score at 3-all in the top of the third inning. The Lady Tigers responded with three runs in the bottom of the third and added two more in the fifth to help secure the win. Adairsville out-hit Northwest fifteen to five. Ansley Powell (two doubles, RBI) and Alivia Joslin had three hits to help lead the Tigers’ offense. Carlton (two RBI), Maddie Baggett (double, two RBI), and Chloe Hill (two doubles, RBI) had two hits. Ashlynn Durden (double, RBI), Katie Anglian (RBI), and Lily Roberts added one hit. Seigler was 2-for-7 (both singles) with one walk. The Brewers’ third baseman/designated hitter is 3-for-12 in August after starting 5-for-27 in July — his first month after being called up from Triple-A Nashville. His MLB totals include a .205 average with three RBI and two stolen bases. Entering the week, Milwaukee (73-44) has a 5-½ game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central Division. The Brewers have three home games with the Pirates and three games at the Cincinnati Reds this week. MiLB MASON BARNETT — Las Vegas Aviators (Oakland A’s Triple-A affiliate; 4th-year pro; Auburn; Cartersville HS) … made a six-inning start and picked up his sixth pitching victory of the season this past Saturday in a 3-2 win at the Salt Lake Bees. The 24-year-old righty allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks while recording nine strikeouts. Barnett is 6-2 this season in 23 appearances and 21 starts. He has a 5.63 ERA in 110-⅓ innings pitched with 116 strikeouts. Las Vegas (65-49 overall) has clinched a postseason berth by winning the first half of the West Division standings. The Aviators are 16-23 in the second half. They have a six-game home series this week against the Tacoma Rainiers. LOGAN MARTIN — Quad Cities River Bandits (Kansas City Royals High-Class A affiliate; 3rd-year pro; Kentucky; Cartersville HS) … made a two-inning start at home this past Sunday against the Beloit Sky Carp and did not allow a run or a hit while striking out three. The 24-year-old received no decision. It was his first mound appearance since July 24, and his season ERA dropped to 3.87. Martin has an 8-4 record in 19 starts. He has 68 strikeouts in 81-⅓ innings with a 1.24 WHIP. The River Bandits (61-46,22-19 second-half standings) trail Beloit by two games. Quad Cities has a six-game series this week at the Cedar Rapids Kernels. PGA TOUR AMERICAS BUCK BRUMLOW — (1st year pro; University of Georgia; Cartersville HS) … had his best week as a professional with a top ten finish at the BioSteel Championship at Ambassador Golf Club in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, last Thursday through Sunday. Brumlow fired rounds of 65-66-68-66 (265, 15-under par) and finished ten shots behind tournament winner Michael Brennan on the par-70, 7,033-yard layout. Connor Howe was runner-up at 20-under par. For Brumlow, it was his second cut made in five events for the 22-year-old, and he earned a check for $5,625. He carded two eagles, 18 birdies, and just seven bogeys for the 72-hole event. The next tournament on the PGA Tour Americas circuit is the Manitoba Open at Breezy Bend Country Club, August 21-24.

August 9, 2025 The Cartersville High School volleyball team opened the season with four wins on Friday and Saturday during the Sequoyah Classic in Cherokee County. The Lady Canes defeated Cherokee (25-11, 25-16), Starr’s Mill (25-16, 25-10), South Forsyth (25-7, 25-12), Harrison (25-14, 25-17), Norcross (25-22, 25-13), River Ridge (25-17, 25-23) and Alpharetta in the finals (18-25, 25-22, and 15-10). Alpharetta is the two-time defending champion in Class 6A. Cartersville (7-0) will travel to Hillgrove on Tuesday to play the host Hawks and Pope. Adairsville (0-2) visits Coosa on Tuesday and will also face Model. LADY CATS DROP OPENER Woodland volleyball lost its season-opening match this past Thursday at Chattooga in straight sets.  Woodland (0-1) hosts Pickens County on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
