The Cass boys and girls track and field teams competed Tuesday evening at the Southeast Whitfield High School Six Team Meet in Dalton. The Cass boys won the meet with 169.5 points. Gordon Lee was second with 146 points and host Southeast Whitfield placed third with 131 points. The Lady Colonels placed second, finishing 32 points behind first place Gordon Lee. The Adairsville Tigers scored twice in the fifth inning Tuesday night at Bremen to take a 2-1 lead, but the Blue Devils scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie and four more runs in the sixth inning for a 6-2 Region 6AAA victory. Halen Huskins and Taylor Whitley singled in Adairsville’s two-run fifth inning. Garrett Mishoe delivered a double. Huskins and Mishoe each had two hits in the game. Kyler Pelfrey, Whitley, and Hunter Hice had the other Tigers’ hits. Sam Thompson (2 RBIs) and Trent Rhinehart had two hits each for the Blue Devils. For other Bremen players had one hit each. Wade Oneal (7 IP, 2ER, 7H, 0BB, 8K) was the winning pitcher for Bremen with a complete-game performance. Sam Seaman (1.1 IP, 4R, 0ER, 4H, 1BB, 1K) was saddled with the pitching loss despite not allowing an earned run. He entered in the fifth inning in relief of starter Kyler Pelfrey (4.2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 4H, 1BB, 6K). Bremen improved to 7-8 overall and 3-4 in Region 6AAA. Adairsville (5-11, 2-5) plays at Calhoun Thursday at 5:55pm, hosts Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Friday at 5:55pm, and travels to Armuchee for a doubleheader Saturday at 11am.

The Class AAA 10th-ranked Adairsville girls soccer team fell 3-2 Tuesday night in a non-region game at Class AAAA Central-Carrollton. Central-Carrollton scored in the 12th minute to lead 1-0 at halftime, but Adairsville evened the score early in the second half. Emily Collum scored for the Lady Tigers in the 48th minute off a feed from mid-fielder Lauren Stephenson. Adairsville then took a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute on a goal by Chloe Cochran. Collum was credited with an assist. The Lady Lions tied the game on a breakaway goal with about 10 minutes remaining and scored the game-winner with just under one minute remaining. Central-Carrollton improved to 7-6 with their win. Adairsville (9-3, 5-2 Region 6AAA) faces East Paulding Thursday in another non-region game. CENTRAL-CARROLLTON BOYS 4, ADAIRSVILLE 2 Central-Carrollton improved to 3-10 overall with the non-region win. Adairsville is 1-7.

Cartersville pitcher Anthony Seigler tossed a shutout and homered Tuesday evening to lead the Hurricanes to a 2-0 Region 5AAAA win at Central-Carrollton. Seigler scattered five hits and a walk in his complete game pitching effort. He struck out nine. His home run came in the top of the third inning. The Canes’ second run came in the seventh without benefit of a hit. A walk, a hit batsman, and a pair of groundouts gave Cartersville an insurance run. Noah Daniel (photo right) had the RBI. Central-Carrollton pitchers Jarrod Swafford and Kent Evans were solid also. Swafford (6 IP, 1ER, 4H, 2BB, 6K) was saddled with the loss. Evans (1 IP, 1R, 0H, 1BB) pitched the seventh inning. Mason Dodson had two hits for the Lions. Seigler was 2-for-3 including his home run. Daniel and Jake Gooch had the other Cartersville hits. Central slipped to 8-10 overall and 2-4 in region play. Cartersville (14-5, 4-2) plays at Sandy Creek Friday at 6:30pm in another Region 5AAAA game. The Canes then play Saturday at Central-Phenix City, AL at 1pm. The Cass boys soccer team defeated Paulding County Tuesday night at Doug Cochran Stadium, 9-3. The Colonels took a 3-0 lead in the first half on a pair of goals by Anthony Robledo and a penalty kick goal by Carlos Dominguez. Robledo took a feed from Slomi Orozco with 19:51 remaining in the first half give Cass a 1-0 lead. Dominguez made the PK less than two minutes later, and Robledo’s second goal came with 5:37 remaining in the first half off a pass from Nelson Arroyo. Robledo scored with 39:26 remaining in the second half to give Cass a 4-0 lead, but the visiting Patriots scored back-to-back goals in just over two minutes to narrow the margin to 4-2. The Colonels responded with four straight goals. Javier Duarte, Javier Albarran, and Jackson Laurent scored off assists from Felipe Albarran, Robledo, and Arroyo in succession to give Cass an 8-2 lead with just over 15 minutes remaining in the game. Robledo scored two more goals to give him five for the game. An unassisted goal with just over 13 minutes left and another off a feed from Jorge Cabanos. Paulding added one more score in between for the 9-3 final. Brandon Romero had seven saves in goal for the Colonels who have now won three of their last four region games and have only one region game remaining. Cass (3-9 overall, 3-4 Region 7AAAAA) remains alive for a region playoff spot although they will need some help. The Colonels need a win Thursday at Kell plus a win by Rome over Kell and a Woodland win over Villa Rica to reach the region playoffs. PAULDING CO. GIRLS 5, CASS 2 The Cass girls soccer team lost to Paulding County Tuesday night, 5-2. The Lady Patriots took a 3-1 lead in the first half and outscored the Lady Colonels 2-1 in the second half to remain unbeaten in Region 7AAAAA games. Stephanie Robledo scored both Cass goals. Briana Ochoa assisted on one goal for the Lady Colonels and the other was scored on a Robledo penalty kick. The Lady Patriots improved to 11-2 overall and 7-0 in Region 7AAAAA. Cass (5-7, 3-4) plays at Kell Thursday.

The Cartersville girls and boys tennis teams defeated Coahulla Creek Tuesday night with the Canes winning 5-0 and the Lady Canes winning 4-1. The Cartersville girls will be the top seed for the Region 5AAAA tournament April 11-12 in Carrollton. The boys team will be the 2-seed at the region tournament. The Lady Canes and Canes host Dalton in a non-region match Wednesday. The Cartersville boys soccer team clinched the Region 5AAAA championship Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over LaGrange. Pedro Ghanem put the Canes on the board in the 5th minute of the first half for a 1-0 advantage at the intermission. Jair Ramos scored for Cartersville in the 50th minute and Rhett Pasley added a third counter in the 60th minute. Pedro Robledo and Ghanem each had one assist. LaGrange is now 9-2-3 overall and finished region play with a 4-1-1 mark. Cartersville improved to 10-1-1 overall and is 5-0 in Region 5AAAA matches with one more region game remaining with Sandy Creek on Friday, April 14. Regardless of the outcome of that game, the Canes are the region winner. Cartersville will host a non-region match with Creekview Thursday at 7:30pm. LAGRANGE GIRLS 1, CARTERSVILLE 0 The Lady Grangers improved to 10-4 overall and clinched the Region 5AAAA title with a perfect 6-0 mark. The Lady Canes slipped to 8-5 overall and finished 3-3 in region games.

The Cass baseball team scored plenty of runs Monday evening at Region 7AAAAA rival Carrollton, but the Trojans’ offense was clicking on all cylinders as well. Carrollton scored in every inning except the fifth for an 11-9 victory. The Colonels scored seven times in the top of the second inning to take a 7-2 lead and added two more in the third to hold a 9-5 advantage, but the Trojan bats kept producing. Carrollton scored a run in the bottom of the third to narrow the Cass lead to 9-6, before scoring four more in the fourth and an insurance run in the sixth. The Trojans rapped out 13 hits. Cass had nine. Carrollton utilized five pitcher with reliever Colin Broz picking up the win in middle relief by tossing three shutout innings. Ty Murray picked up a save by working a scoreless seventh. Jake Collum (3.2 IP, 10ER, 11H, 1BB, 3K) took the loss on the mound for Cass. Austin Pruett (2.1 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 3K) finished the game. He entered with two outs in the fourth inning. Tate Fricks drove in three runs with three hits for Carrollton. Mike Wright (HR, 2 RBIs), Asa Awbrey (RBI), and Andy Smith had two hits each. Clay Means (RBI), Bailey Campbell (2 RBI-double), Jake Collum, Tyler Hendon, Cody Johnson, Evan Hinton (double), and Nathan Smith (RBI) had one hit apiece. Carrollton improved to 17-3 with the win and holds the top spot in Region 7AAAAA with a 7-0 mark. Cass is now 11-9 overall and 4-3 in region play. Three Woodland pitchers — Kenny Jinks, Bryce Evans, and Tommy Peed — combined to shutout the visiting Rome Wolves Monday evening as the Wildcats won 1-0. Woodland scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the third. Jordan Lee and Dylan Webb started the third inning for Woodland with singles and Lee eventually scored on a passed ball. Jacob Frye had the only other Woodland hit in the game as both teams were limited to only three hits. Connor Bullard had two hits for Rome and Chandler Bridges had the other safety. Bridges was the hard-luck loser on the mound for the Wolves. He struck out five and pitched all six frames. The lone run against him was unearned.
