Troup County pitcher Colby Williams tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout at Richard Bell Field Friday evening to blank the Cartersville Hurricanes, 1-0. The visiting Tigers scored the game’s only run in the top of the fifth on a hit batsman and back-to-back singles. Kenly Bridwell had the Troup County RBI hit to score Cam Russell. A trio of Cartersville pitchers — Levi Ayers, Anthony Seigler, and J.P. Martin — almost matched Williams’ performance. The three Canes combined to allow only five hits, three RBIs, and fanned eight. Seigler had a pair of doubles for Cartersville. Brant Smith had the other Canes’ base hit. The Tigers improved to 12-8 overall and 3-2 in Region 5AAAA. Cartersville (13-5, 3-2) plays at Central-Carrollton Tuesday at 4:45pm and at Sandy Creek next Friday at 5:30pm.

Emily Collum scored three goals as the Adairsville Lady Tigers defeated Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Thursday night, 5-1. Chloe Cochran and Gillian Johnson also scored goals for Adairsville. The Woodland soccer teams lost in Region 7AAAAA matches Thursday night to East Paulding. EAST PAULDING GIRLS 2, WOODLAND 1 The Woodland girls led 1-0 at halftime, but East Paulding scored in the 46th minute to tie 1-1 and scored the game-winner off a corner with about 10 minutes remaining. East Paulding improved to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in region play. The Lady Cats (0-10, 0-7) host a non-region match with Heritage-Catoosa next Tuesday at 5pm. The Adairsville baseball team scored a pair of first inning runs on a two-out error in the first inning and added one more run on a two-out, solo home run by Garrett Mishoe in the fifth inning for a 3-1 Region 6AAA win Thursday evening at Sonoraville. Adairsville pitchers Caden Gibbs (4 IP, 0R, 5H, 2BB, 2K) and Sam Seaman (3 IP, 1R, 0ER, 3H, 1BB, 4K) combined to shut down the Phoenix. The pair did not allow an earned run in seven combined innings. Avery Hopper (6 IP, 3R, 1ER, 7H, 2BB, 4K) worked six innings from the mound for Sonoraville and allowed only one earned run, but was saddled with the loss. Chase Kirby and Gavin Phillips had two hits each for the Phoenix. Mishoe was 3-for-4 for the Tigers, including his home run. LaGrange scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning Thursday evening before Grangers’ pitcher Ben Anderson limited Cartersville to a single run over seven innings for a 2-1 Region 5AAAA decision. Anderson scattered five hits and five walks. He fanned eleven Canes. Cartersville pitcher Mason Barnett was almost as successful. He shut out the Grangers after the two-run first inning and limited LaGrange to only five hits without a walk, although he did hit two batters. Only one of the two LaGrange runs were earned and Barnett struck out five. Noah Daniel drove in the Canes’ run in the fifth inning with a two-out single to right field that scored Anthony Seigler. Ben Anderson had two hits for LaGrange. Seigler had two hits for Cartersville. Daniel, Jacob Fowler, and Spencer Dickey had the other Hurricanes’ hits. The Adairsville High baseball team won a Region 6AAA extra innings battle with Haralson County Wednesday, while both the Cass Colonels and Woodland Wildcats lost Region 7AAAAA matchups. ADAIRSVILLE 5, HARALSON COUNTY 4 The Adairsville Tigers fell behind early, but rallied late to edge visiting Haralson County in extra innings Wednesday night, 5-4. Adairsville trailed 4-1 heading to their final frame of the Region 6AAA contest, but scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. The Tigers’ Corey Nation scored in the bottom of the eighth off a Halen Huskins RBI double for their 5-4 win. In the sixth inning trailing 4-1, Taylor Whitley drove in a run with an RBI single and Hunter Hice forced home two more runs with a two-out double. Sam Seaman drove in the Tigers’ first inning run with a single that scored Kyler Pelfrey. Haralson County scored four runs on five singles in the third inning. Pelfrey (2.2 IP, 4ER, 5H, 2BB, 3K) started on the mound for Adairsville. Chase Powell (5.1 IP, 0R, 4H, 0BB, 5K) picked up the pitching win in relief. Logan Smallwood scattered five hits and walk while fanning seven Colonels to earn a complete game shutout on the mound for the Wildcats. Villa Rica’s offense posted a single run in the second inning, three more in the third, and added a run in the seventh for the 5-0 final. Dylan Humphries provided the Wildcats’ most productive bat. He was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Five other Villa Rica players had one hit each. Clay Means, Bailey Campbell, Steven Spell, Cody Johnson, and Tyler Hendon had one hit apiece for the Colonels. The Raiders, who out hit Woodland ten to five, scored in every inning after the first. The Raiders put up five runs in the second inning, two in the third, one in both the fourth and fifth innings, and two more in the sixth. Sean Cheely, Alex Prosser, Tyrell Robinson and Will Prater combined for six hits and ten RBIs for the Raiders. East Paulding utilized three pitchers, with starter Daniel Batcher (5 IP, 2ER, 4H, 2BB, 9K) picking up the win. Woodland starter, Kenny Jinks, suffered the pitching loss. He did not get through the second inning. Garrett Pope, Bryce Evans, and Koby Stansel each pitched for the Wildcats in relief. Noah Ludy had two hits and two RBIs for Woodland.
