- Maxwell ratings projects multiple playoff teams for local high school football
The latest edition of the Maxwell ratings playoff predictor has three local high school teams projected to make the GHSA state playoffs in their respective classifications. The projections have Cartersville as a No. 1 seed in Class AAAA. Adairsville is projected as a No. 2 seed in Class AAA, and Cass is currently projected as a No. 3 seed in Class AAAAA. The projections utilize the Maxwell ratings formula that is calculated using variables including history/tradition, current season results, past season results, opponents' results, and strength of schedule. - Cherokee outlasts Lady Cats in extra innings
The Cherokee Lady Warriors improved to an impressive 19-2 on the season Wednesday with a 2-1, extra inning softball victory over Woodland in Canton. Woodland and Cherokee went to the extra frame tied 1-1, but the Lady Warriors were able to push across a game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth. - Bartow County Rec Department set to begin youth wrestling program
Bartow County Parks and Recreation will begin a new youth wrestling program at the South Bartow Youth Facility in the coming weeks. A parent meeting will be held Wednesday, September 30 for those interested in having their child participate. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm at the South Bartow Youth Facility. The program is available for girls and boys ages 5 to 14. The meeting will include discussion of registration fees, estimated practice days and times, and benefits of the sport for your child. Cartersville Parks and Recreation Department Youth Football 10U results for Tuesday, September 22 BARTOW COLTS 22 HURRICANES BLACK 0 Devin Henderson scored on touchdown runs from 1- and 12-yards and Caleb Cooley added a 34 yard touchdown run to lead the Bartow Colts. Hunter Waits kicked a pair of 2-point PATs for the Colts. Miles Forristall was credited with an all-around quality performance for Hurricanes Black. 12U results for Tuesday, September 22 BARTOW BUCS 12 HURRICANES PURPLE 6 Thomas Knight had an 8-yard touchdown run and Emmanuel Hayes hit paydirt on a 22-yard run to lead the Bartow Bucs past Hurricanes Purple. Damon Williams scored the Purple touchdown and Caleb Henson was credited for all-around play for Purple. - Lady Canes drop pair of region matches
Cartersville lost a pair of region volleyball matches Tuesday, falling to Ridgeland in three sets and Heritage-Catoosa in straight sets. Ridgeland defeated the Lady Canes 25-21, 22-25, 25-13. Heritage-Catoosa won 25-20, 25-12. Next on the Cartersville schedule include home matches against Murray County and Cass on Thursday (5pm), at Southeast Whitfield with Pickens Tuesday, Sept. 29 (6pm) and at Pope with Hillgrove Thursday Oct. 1 (6pm).

Bartow County Recreation Department Youth Football 10U results for Tuesday, September 22 FALCONS 30 BEARS 12 Jonathan Gough scored on runs of 70 and 14 yards and added three 2-point conversion kicks to lead the Falcons past the Bears. Todd Gaddy also scored on a 56 yard run for the Falcons. Jordan Durham and William Buttram had touchdown runs of 30 and 6 yards, respectively. RAIDERS 26 PACKERS 12 Evan Sanders ran for three touchdowns and passed for another in the Raiders victory. Sanders had touchdown runs of 81, 25, and 3 yards. The touchdown pass went to Case Adams from 37 yards out. Trip Bradley added a 2-point conversion kick for the Raiders. Jamarian Pullum connected with Kymoni Pullum for a 25 yard touchdown for the Packers. Adrian Harris added a 6 yard scoring run. Tylan Beeman added a 6-yard scoring run and a PAT run. Xavior Darby scored on a 2-yard run for the Raiders and added a 2-point conversion pass to Aiden Caylor. FALCONS 26 PACKERS 0 The Falcons’ defense shutout the Packers Monday night for a 26-0 victory. Ja’Kai Baldwin scored on touchdown runs of 45 and 10 yards. Ja’Kez Baldwin, Kelson Mitchell, and Caiden Moore each added short TD runs of 6, 4, and 3, respectively. Kyron McClendon added a PAT run for the Falcons.

Wright added a PAT run. Bears 33 Raiders 6 Isaiah Livsey and Talan Nix combined for five touchdown runs leading the Bears past the Raiders. Livsey scored on runs of 70-, 50-, and 50-yards. Nix had touchdown runs rom 26 and 20 yards out. Nix added a PAT run and Casen Cochran added a 2-point PAT kick. The Raiders’ score came on a 20 yard run by Aiden Caylor. Falcons 30 Jets 0 Kelson Mitchell scored on three runs. Ja’Kai Baldwin and Caden Moore scored one touchdown each. Mitchell’s touchdown runs were from 70-, 18-, and 5-yards.
