April 21, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Georgia Highlands Chargers continued their successful regular-season run through the GCAA schedule on Tuesday with an 11-5 win at the Andrew College Tigers in Cuthbert. The Chargers, who have already secured the conference regular-season title, broke a 3-3 tie by scoring six runs in the top of the sixth inning. GHC then added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth. Starting pitcher David McKechnie (4 IP, 1ER, 2H, 4BB, 1K) was one of six pitchers utilized by Georgia Highlands. Dozier Swain (1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 1H, 1BB), Evan Doss (1.2 IP, 2ER, 4H, 1K), Jackson Scali (0.1 IP), Jack Burns (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 1K), and Braxton Wade (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 2K) each worked short stints on the mound. Aidan Larkin (home run, two RBI), Hayden Miller (double, sac fly, two RBI), Caden Marcos (solo home run), Andrew Bishop (double), and Mason Moore each contributed two hits in the victory. Emiliano Dominguez (three RBI), Carson Page (RBI), and Kenton Collier (RBI) each added one hit. The loss dropped Andrew College to 17-27 overall and 8-15 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. Georgia Highlands (40-11, 20-4) visits East Georgia State on Thursday at 3 p.m.

MLB / MiLB MASON BARNETT — MLB Athletics; Las Vegas Aviators (A’s Triple-A affiliate; 5th-year pro; Auburn; Cartersville HS) … made a five-inning start for the Triple-A Aviators at the Reno Aces on April 14 for his second win of the MiLB season. He allowed no runs on one hit and five walks while striking out seven. He was then called up to the MLB Athletics for a home relief appearance this past Sunday. Barnett needed 43 pitches to cover two-plus innings versus the White Sox in an eventual 7-4 loss. Since Barnett would have been unavailable to pitch for a day or two, the Athletics have summoned a fresh bullpen arm to take his roster spot. Barnett was optioned back to Las Vegas. The Aviators have a six-game series at home this week against the Salt Lake Bees. LOGAN MARTIN — Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants Double-A affiliate; 4th-year pro; Kentucky; Cartersville HS) … made his second pitching start for Richmond on April 14 and went 4-1/3 innings with no decision in an eventual 11-7 win at the Hartford Yard Goats. Martin allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk. He fanned four. The Flying Squirrels entered the week with a 12-2 record, leading the Eastern League Southwest Division. They host the Somerset Patriots for six games this week through Sunday. ANTHONY SEIGLER — Worcester Red Sox (Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate; 9th-year pro; Cartersville HS) … returning to action recently following a lingering left knee injury he suffered during the offseason Dominican Winter League, Seigler has gone 2-for-18 in five games at the Triple-A level against Columbus at home and on the road at Nashville. Both hits were doubles. He has two walks, one stolen base, and one RBI. The 26-year-old utility player started the year on the MLB Red Sox injured list after moving over from the Milwaukee Brewers in the offseason. Worcester entered the week with an 11-9 record. They host the Syracuse Mets for six games this week through Sunday. PGA TOUR AMERICAS BUCK BRUMLOW — 2nd yr. pro (University of Georgia; Cartersville HS) … shot 74-67 (1-under par) last Thursday and Friday, but missed the cut at the Brazil Open at the Rio Olympic Golf Course in Rio de Janeiro. The 36-hole cut was 5-under par on the 7,163-yard, par-71 layout. The tour moves to Argentina this week for the 94 Abierto del Centro Zurich. GOLF CHRISTINA SURCEY — Lipscomb University (So., Cartersville resident, North Cobb Christian) … recorded rounds of 71-76-74 (+5) and tied for 12th in the 69-player field at the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship held at Dothan Country Club in Dothan, Alabama. The Bisons finished fifth, behind North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson, and Central Arkansas in the 12-team field. TENNIS EMILY BUSH — University of North Georgia (Sr., Cartersville HS) … won each of her singles matches last week as the Nighthawks lost at 14th-ranked Columbus State University, but won at Middle Georgia State University and Georgia Southwestern University. She played Line 6 singles vs. Columbus State, Line 5 vs. MGSU, and Line 3 vs. Georgia Southwestern. She lost doubles sets with partner Linn Goerdes in two of the matches, but was up 4-3 with partner Lauryn Swatski at Georgia Southwestern when their set was halted. UNG, ranked 11th by ITA, plays in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament this weekend at Columbus State. SYDNEY COPPOLA — Berry College (Jr., Cass HS) … won her Line 3 doubles set with partner Charlee Eidson and won her Line 6 singles match in straight sets on Sunday as the Vikings blanked Oglethorpe University, 7-0. On Saturday, facing the University of Mary Washington in Sewanee, Tennessee, she lost her Line 5 singles match and her Line 3 doubles match with Eidson. Berry faces Southwestern University (TX) on Friday in the opening round of the Southern Athletic Association Championship Tournament in Memphis, Tennessee. TRACK AND FIELD KENDRICK PRICE — Troy University (So., Cartersville HS) … placed 54th (10.91) in the 100-meter dash at the Georgia Tech Invitational this past weekend. The Penn Relays are next on the Trojans’ schedule this Thursday through Saturday. JAYLEN SCOTT — Reinhardt University (So., Cartersville HS) … finished seventh (126-4.50) in the discus throw April 15 at the Life University Mid Week Mini Meet in Marietta. The Appalachian Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships begin on Thursday. BEACH VOLLEYBALL AILEE ENGLAND — Berry College (So., Cartersville HS) … playing with Flight 3 partner Kaylee Howell, the duo won three matches at the AVCA DIII National Championships in Gulf Breeze, Alabama, last Friday and Saturday. Berry defeated LaGrange College (3-0), East Texas Baptist (3-0), and Stevenson University (MD) (3-2) to reach the national championship match against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Crusaders won the title match 3-0, but the England-Howell duo was up one set when their match was halted. The Vikings won 20+ games for the second straight year, finishing 21-10 as Division III national runner-up. LAUREN LAWSON — University of South Carolina (Jr., Cartersville HS) … the 17th-ranked Gamecocks went 3-1 this past Friday and Saturday at the Stetson University Deland Cup while Lawson and her Flight 3 partner Evie Ziffer went 1-3. The duo won in three sets as the Gamecocks beat UNC Wilmington 4-1. Their losses were also in three sets as South Carolina defeated Georgia State and 14th-ranked Stetson, but lost 3-2 to 18th-ranked North Florida. The Gamecocks play Thursday and Friday in the Big 12 Conference Championships in Tucson, Arizona. LONDON MOULTRIE — Wingate University (Sr., Cartersville HS) … had a Flight 3 straight sets win with partner Amelia Talbott as the Bulldogs defeated McKendree University (MD) last weekend at the AVCA DII National Championships in Gulf Breeze, Alabama. The Flight 3 duo also suffered losses to Colorado Mesa and St. Leo University (FL), but won their match against Erskine College (SC). Wingate finished the season with a 13-21 record. SOFTBALL KILEY ARNOLD — Shorter University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … went 1-for-11 with one walk in four losses last week — two to visiting Southern Wesleyan University (SC) and two at King University (TN). The Hawks finished the season with a 13-36 record overall and were 7-21 in Conference Carolinas action. They did not qualify for the Conference Carolinas tournament. Arnold batted .173 with eight RBI in 35 games and 33 starts. She had a .914 fielding percentage. HAYLEE DISHMON — Berry College (Jr., Cass HS) … was inserted as a pinch runner in both games of a doubleheader with Piedmont University on April 15 and scored one run as the Vikings won both games over the Lions. Berry plays a three-game home series with Sewanee-University of the South on Saturday and Sunday. ANSLEY HIGHT — Reinhardt University (Jr., Cass HS) … went 8-for-18 in six games last week as the Eagles went 4-2 with two losses at Brenau University and four wins at home in doubleheaders with Milligan University (TN) and Tennessee Wesleyan University. Hight hit two home runs and had two doubles, two walks, one sacrifice fly, two runs scored, and six RBI. Covenant (14-21, 6-12 Collegiate Conference of the South) visits Berry on Tuesday and plays a three-game non-conference series on Friday and Saturday at Toccoa Falls College. RYAN FARR — Kentucky Christian University (So., Adairsville HS) … made two relief pitching appearances and collected one pitching win last week. His win was a two-inning appearance at Ohio Christian University, where he faced eight batters in the tenth and eleventh innings of an 8-4 win. He allowed no runs and struck out two. On Saturday, the right-hander picked up his first save by working a scoreless ninth inning, yielding one walk, in a 5-2 home victory over Rio Grande College (OH). The Bobcats won the first game of Friday’s doubleheader 5-4, but the Chargers won the second game 6-1 and won on Saturday, 11-0. In the GHC pitching circle, Emily Ferro (7 IP, 5R, 4ER, 8H, 3BB, 6K) suffered the loss in Game 1 on Friday. Haley Curtis (7 IP, 1ER, 8H, 3BB, 4K) collected the win in Game 2, and CeCe Williams (5 IP, 0R, 5H, 3BB, 4K) tossed a shutout to win the final game of the weekend. Athens Hudson led the Chargers’ bats in the series with four hits, including two homers, one double, and three RBI. Emma Darrow (home run, double, three RBI) and Anslee Logan (one RBI) followed with three hits. Emmalee Freeman had two hits in the series, including one home run, one triple, and five RBI. Ahmani Green contributed a two-run homer. Williams (double, two RBI), Ferro (RBI), Gracie Azpeitia, Mary Catherine Kimball, and Madelyn Johnson each added one hit during the series. East Georgia finished the series with a 23-23 record overall. The Bobcats are 8-11 in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association games. Georgia Highlands (22-15, 11-6) welcomes South Georgia State College for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

April 19, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com Georgia Highlands College baseball split a doubleheader against East Georgia State on Saturday, resulting in a four-game series split with the Bobcats for the week. The Chargers won 8-7 in Cartersville last Tuesday and 5-2 in the first game of a doubleheader this past Saturday. East Georgia won 11-4 on Friday and 3-2 on Sunday in Swainsboro. Matthew Perkins (5 IP, 1ER, 3H, 2BB, 4K) started on the mound for the Chargers in their win on Saturday and was credited with the win. Braxton Wade (1.2 IP, 1ER, 3H, 3K) and Jack Burns (0.1 IP, 1K) pitched in relief. Single runs in three of the first four innings and two runs in the sixth gave the Chargers a 5-1 lead. East Georgia scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but got no closer. Kenton Collier, Aidan Larkin (double), Mason Moore (double, RBI), Emiliano Dominguez, Caden Marcos, and Harper Davenport had hits for GHC. Carson Page added an RBI with a sacrifice fly. In Saturday’s final game of the series, the Bobcats led 2-0 through three innings with a run in the second and a solo home run in the third. The Chargers tied the score in the sixth with two runs, but East Georgia collected a walk-off win in the bottom of the eighth on a walk and two singles. Six Chargers had one hit each, including Moore (double, RBI), Marcos (RBI), Page, Larkin, Collier, and Andrew Bishop. East Georgia finished the series with an 18-26 record overall. The Bobcats are 9-13 in conference play. Fifteenth-ranked Georgia Highlands (39-11, 19-4) has clinched the GCAA regular-season title with five games remaining. The Chargers visit Andrew College on Tuesday and play at East Georgia on Thursday.

April 18, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Cass Colonels finished their 2026 campaign Friday night with a doubleheader sweep at Hiram, winning 11-0 and 14-12. Friday’s wins wrapped up a three-game series sweep during the week by Cass. Dustin Wallin tossed a five-inning, one-hitter in the opening victory, and the Colonels built a 12-1 lead in Game 2 before holding on in the late innings to secure the sweep. Wallin struck out eight and walked two in the shutout. Andrew Ray (1.2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 3H, 1BB, 2K) was credited with the pitching win in the second game in relief of starter Easton Lee (3.1 IP, 6R, 5ER, 7H, 1BB, 5K). Noah Rogers (2 IP, 5R, 2ER, 1H, 3BB, 2K) pitched the final two innings for Cass. Noah Rogers led the Colonels’ offense with four hits, including one double and four RBI in the doubleheader. Kasey Jacobs followed with three hits and two RBI. Landon Lamb (sac fly, three RBI), Aidan Castaneda (three RBI), DJ Vigil (sac fly, two RBI), and Wallin (double, RBI) each finished the night with two hits. Zach Stiles (double, three RBI), Landon Farmer (sac fly, two RBI), and Maddox Koontz (double, two RBI) added one hit apiece. The Hornets finished the season 9-22 overall and 2-19 in Region 7-AAAA. Cass concluded the year with an 11-19 record. The Colonels were 8-13 in region games.

The victory completed a three-game series sweep for the Bruins. Adairsville scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but the Tigers’ comeback efforts ended there. Kaden Coker (1.1 IP, 3ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) made the pitching start for the Tigers and was the pitcher of record. Brody Varner (0.2 IP, 4ER, 2H, 4BB, 1K), David Sutton (3 IP, 1ER, 4H, 2BB, 2K), and Hunter Dudley (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1K) pitched in relief for Adairsville. McCayden Hufstetler had two hits for the Tigers. Braden Slocumb (RBI), Matthew Cook (RBI), and Tyler Parker each added one hit. Northwest Whitfield improved to 16-14 overall and finished 11-7 in region play. Adairsville (18-11, 10-8) will begin the Class AAA state playoffs next Friday. The Tigers’ site and opponent will be determined this weekend by the final GHSA Postseason Rankings. Adairsville entered Friday’s game as the No. 16 team. Northwest Whitfield was ranked No. 20. WOODLAND 5, OSBORNE 2 The Woodland Wildcats concluded their 2026 baseball season Friday with a 5-2 non-region win at Osborne. WOODLAND BOYS 1, BREMEN 0 The Wildcats finished their season in style Thursday night and evened their season record at 8-8 with a 1-0 win over the visiting Bremen Blue Devils. Following a scoreless first half, Woodland’s Hunter Limbaugh scored on a penalty kick in the game’s 55th minute. Wildcats’ goalkeeper Seth Goodall made one save to preserve his clean sheet. Bremen finished the season with a 5-10 record. BREMEN 1, WOODLAND GIRLS 0 The Woodland girls' soccer team lost its final regular-season game on Thursday night to visiting Bremen, 1-0. The Lady Blue Devils improved to 9-8. Woodland dropped to 8-8 and will open the state playoffs next Thursday with a first-round match at Maynard Jackson High School in Atlanta. NORTH PAULDING 6, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 1 The visiting Lady Wolfpack pounced to a 4-0 first-half lead and closed out a 6-1 non-region win at Cartersville Thursday night over the Lady Canes. Ali Evans scored the Cartersville goal in the second half, finishing a well-placed assist from senior Mallory Nicklas. North Paulding improved to 10-4 on the season. The Lady Canes (10-7) will host Pace Academy on Thursday in the first round of the Class AAAA state playoffs. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. NORTH PAULDING 3, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 3 (Wolfpack wins on PKs) The Canes and Wolfpack battled to a 3-3 draw in regulation before North Paulding collected a 4-3 win in a penalty shootout. The Wolfpack evened their season record at 9-9. Cartersville slipped to 10-7 and will begin the Class AAAA state playoffs next Friday with a first-round matchup at Drew High School in Atlanta. CHEROKEE 4, CASS BOYS 1 The Colonels stayed even with the Warriors through the first half, but the Warriors exploded for three goals in the second half Thursday night to defeat Cass 4-1 in Canton. Cherokee improved to 5-11-1 on the season. Cass finished the year with an 8-8 record. CHEROKEE 10, CASS GIRLS 0 The Cass girls’ soccer team lost 10-0 at Class 6A Cherokee Thursday evening and finished their 2026 campaign with a 5-11 record. Cherokee built a 4-0 lead in the first half and cruised to six more scores in the second half to close out the contest. Cherokee, the Region 5-6A runner-up, heads into next week’s state playoffs with a 14-2 mark.

The 15th Senior Match Play Championship for players 55 and older was conducted at Echelon Golf Club in Alpharetta. The field of 60 players competed on the 6454-yard, par-72 layout. Branton qualified for the 16-man championship bracket by carding even-par rounds of 72-72 in the stroke play portion on Monday and Tuesday. He was seeded seventh in the match play portion. In Wednesday’s Round of 16, he closed out Michael Standard on the sixteenth hole to win 3&2. In the quarterfinals, he took a 3-up lead over Jack Larkin, Sr., through ten holes and then held on for another 3&2 victory. In Thursday morning’s semifinals, Branton defeated Jack Hall by taking a 4-up lead through 12 holes, and his opponent resigned. In the championship match, Mitchell built a 3-up lead through the first five holes, but Branton won three of the next five holes to tie the match on the eleventh hole. The back-and-forth match continued over the next six holes with Mitchell winning holes 12, 15, and 16. Branton stayed all square with wins on holes 13, 14, and 17. Mitchell made par on the final hole to secure the title after Branton blocked his tee shot on No. 18 to the right and failed to make par.

Nolan Elrod collected the Canes’ pitching win in the opener. He struck out seven and allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk. Brayden Logan (1 IP, 3ER, 3H, 3BB, 2K) and Wyatt Earwood (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 2K) each worked one inning in Game 1. In the nightcap, Logan Buchanan (4 IP, 4ER, 5H, 3BB, 5K) earned the pitching victory. Cole Crawford (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 2K) closed out the fifth inning. Class AAA uses the GHSA Postseason rankings for playoff seeding. The final positions will be calculated this weekend. Adairsville was No. 11, and Northwest Whitfield was No. 22 entering Thursday night’s game. Adairsville rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday, but got no closer. Both teams managed to accumulate 12 hits, while each team also committed six errors. In the second game, the Buccaneers led 7-5 through the first three innings before putting the game away with an 11-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning. Preston Sorrells had three hits for Woodland in the doubleheader, including one double and one RBI. Jacob Tatum (two RBI), Jonathan Ryan (RBI), and Sammy Ray had two hits on the night. Adairsville exploded out of the gate, scoring three goals in the first six minutes. Alivia Joslin opened the scoring in the 3rd minute off an assist from Ella Edwards. Edwards added a goal of her own just two minutes later, set up by Joslin. Alexa Damer made it 3-0 in the 6th minute by converting a penalty kick. Annabella King capped the first-half scoring in the 39th minute on an assist from Samantha Gough, sending the Lady Tigers into halftime with a 4-0 lead. The onslaught continued after the break. Edwards scored again in the 42nd minute on a feed from Damer, and Joslin added her second goal of the night in the 43rd minute off a pass from Gough. Zonya Gomez-Perez pushed the lead to 7-0 in the 63rd minute with an assist from Caelynn Disbrow. Annabella King finished the scoring in the 70th minute on a helper from Gomez-Perez. The victory was highlighted by Damer breaking the all-time career assist record. Damer recorded her 41st career assist, surpassing the previous mark of 40 held by Haley Pittman. Adairsville head coach Dave Sexauer praised the strong all-around play of Gomez-Perez and Carly Adams for their pressure on the ball, precise passing, and connection throughout the field. He also highlighted Gough’s excellent communication. The Lady Tigers completed the regular season with a perfect road record and improved to 15-2 overall. Ranked No. 4 in Class AAA, Adairsville will host a first-round state playoff match next Thursday. Their opponent will be determined this weekend. North Murray fell to 3-13 with the loss. TIGERS TOPPED BY MOUNTAINEERS The Adairsville Tigers were defeated by the North Murray Mountaineers on Wednesday night, falling 10-2 in a boys’ high school soccer match. North Murray jumped out to a 6-0 lead by halftime and continued their offensive onslaught in the second half. Adairsville showed fight late, scoring twice in quick succession. Angel Hernandez got the Tigers on the board in the 75th minute with an assist from Greg Munoz. One minute later, Moonan Poch converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute to make the final score 10-2. The Tigers dropped to 2-15 on the season. Adairsville will play its final game of 2026 on Thursday night, traveling to Paulding County for an 8 p.m. kickoff.

Robin Evrard scored in the first minute off an assist from Aiden Carrillo to give Woodland an immediate 1-0 lead. Just 10 minutes later, Hunter Limbaugh drilled a free kick from the 40-yard line into the net, extending the advantage to 2-0 by the 11th minute. The Wildcats took that two-goal cushion into halftime. Evrard added his second goal of the match in the 63rd minute, this time set up by Danny Chavez, to cap the scoring at 3-0. Woodland goalkeeper Seth Goodall needed just one save to preserve the clean sheet. The loss dropped the Raiders to 6-12 on the season. The victory improved the Wildcats’ record to 7-8. Woodland will return home to host Bremen on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. LADY CATS WIN AT EAST PAULDING The Woodland girls’ soccer team improved to 8-7 on the season on Wednesday night with a 5-1 victory at East Paulding. The win by the Lady Cats was their fifth straight heading into the Class AAAA state playoffs next week. The Lady Raiders dropped to 8-8 with the loss. Woodland will host Bremen in a final regular-season tune-up game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
