Bartow County Recreation Department 10U results -- Tue., Sept. 15 Jets 24 Falcons 6 The 10U Jets rode the arm and legs of quarterback Chris Roper en route to a 24-6 victory over the Falcons. Roper rushed for three touchdowns on runs of 15, 10, and 65 yards. He also completed several passes on the night to his favorite target Jaylen Scott including a 15 yard touchdown to round out the scoring. Jonathan Gough ran the ball hard all game for the Falcons and scored their lone touchdown on a 30 yard scamper around end. Steelers 14 Bears 8 The Steelers scored a fourth quarter touchdown to break an 8-8 deadlock and secure victory on Tuesday night. Martavius Cochran was responsible for all the Steelers points on the night. He scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter and drilled the PAT to make it 8-0. The Bears answered when Kaden Baldwin broke loose on a 60 yard touchdown run on the next possession. Micah Wilson kicked the conversion to tie the game 8-8. Both defenses were solid the rest of the way until Cochran put the Steelers ahead on a 1-yard run.

The Excel Christian Academy softball team continues to battle for a potential state playoff berth, but fell in region games Monday and Tuesday to Christian Heritage and Mount Zion. ECA lost to Christian Heritage 5-2 Monday and Mount Zion 2-1 Tuesday. With only eight regular season games remaining, each matchup in Class A hold importance since the classification utilizes the Georgia High School Association’s (GHSA) power rating system to determine the sixteen state playoff teams for softball. There is no post-season region playoff tournament in ECA's Region 6-A. The Lady Eagles travel to Pinecrest Academy next Monday and host Trion on Tuesday. The GHSA released its current power rating standings earlier this week and Excel Christian is currently 12th among Class A private schools. Bartow County Recreation Department 8U Football results — Monday, September 14 Bears 36 Jets 0 Isaiah Livsey scored on touchdown runs of 46 and 42 yards to get the Bears’ offense started at 13-0 with a Livsey extra point run. Zachary Wallace added a 25-yard touchdown run and Cameron Cochran connected with Logan Shrewsbury for a 2-point conversion to give the Bears a 21-0 advantage. Talen Nix scored on a 60-yard run and the Bears added another 2-point conversion on a completed pass from Talen Nix to Cochran. Livsey added his third score of the game on a 33-yard run and Wallace added the extra point run. Kolt McCord led the Jets offense with 43 yards rushing. Jordan Carson added a 4-yard touchdown run and Kadron Trimble kicked the PAT to extend the Tigers’ lead to 20-0 in the third quarter. In the final period, the Tigers added a Shelley to Standridge 18-yard scoring pass and Trimble again kicked the extra points for a 28-0 final. Ian Lowe led the Falcons’ defense with seven tackles. Isaac Linley rushed for 64 yards to lead the Falcons’ offense. Bucs 34 Bears 0 Quarterback Andrew Nguyen led the Bucs’ offense with touchdown runs of 50 and 3 yards. Nicholas Johnson had a 33-yard touchdown run. Jaqualyn Mayhall scored on a run from 8 yards out, and Morocco Wilkey added a 25-yard touchdown scamper. Thomas Knight added a pair of conversion runs as the Bucs shutout the Bears. Santino Holmes finished the night with 34 yards rushing and six tackles on defense to lead the Bears. Former Adairsville High School standout and Clemson University All-American, Vic Beasley, Jr., had three tackles and was credited with one pass break up and one quarterback hit in the Atlanta Falcons season opener Friday night. The Falcons held off the Philadelphia Eagles 26-24 for a victory in Beasley's NFL debut. It was also the first game for new Falcons' head coach Dan Quinn. Beasley, the eighth overall pick in the draft, told reporters after the game he learned a few things. Several local collegiate soccer players from local high schools have begun their 2015 seasons: Duquesne — Cody West, R-Soph., defender (Cass HS) — (in photo) has appeared in two games and started one as the Dukes have started the season 1-3. Duquesne defeated Niagra 3-1, but has losses to Marshall, Oregon State, and Cleveland State. They travel to New York to play at Cornell and Colgate this Thursday and Saturday. Troy University — Mallory Hedden, Soph. midfielder, (Cass HS) — 2 shots, 1 shot on goal in the Trojans 5-2 start to the 2015 season. Hedden has seen action in 5 of the first 7 games. Troy is at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, TN Thursday and in Nashville to face Belmont Saturday before Sun Belt Conference play begins the following week. Deven Broadaway of Adairsville birdied the first playoff hole Sunday to win the Georgia State Golf Association's 27th Georgia Public Links Championship at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome. Broadaway edged Scotty Scott of Hoschton with the playoff birdie on hole number 18. Broadaway, a recent Truett-McConnell College graduate, fired a 7-under-par 65 Sunday to overcome an opening round 76 and catch Scott at 3-under par just to get into the playoff. Broadaway's impressive final round included six birdies, an eagle, and only one bogey. Larry Clark of Kingston finished seventh and Brent Sizemore of Adairsville tied for 28th.
