  • Lady Colonels celebrate Senior Night with win over Pebblebrook

    April 15, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Cass Lady Colonels celebrated their 2026 seniors on Tuesday night with a 2-1 home victory over the Pebblebrook Falcons.  Vanessa Garcia scored off an assist from Nat Hughes in the 33rd minute to give Cass a 1-0 advantage at halftime. The Colonels made it 2-0 in the second half when Ryland Piatt’s individual effort found the net in the game’s 74th minute. Pebblebrook scored a goal in the final minute, but the Lady Colonels held on for the win. The Falcons dropped to 3-12 on the season. Cass (5-10) wraps up the 2026 campaign on Thursday at Class 6A Cherokee. FALCONS TOP COLONELS The Pebblebrook Falcons led 5-1 at halftime on Tuesday and defeated the Cass Colonels by a 7-2 final score. Pebblebrook improved to 13-4 heading into the Class 6A state playoffs. Cass (8-7) closes out the season at Class 6A Cherokee on Thursday night.

  • Rivalry renewed: Lady Tigers defeat Lady Canes, Cartersville boys win at Adairsville

    April 14, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Adairsville Lady Tigers defeated the visiting Cartersville Lady Canes 3-2 Tuesday evening at Adairsville High School, renewing a dormant girls' soccer rivalry after a 10-year hiatus. Cartersville controlled much of the early action, but Adairsville gradually settled into the match and struck first in the 22nd minute when Alexa Damer finished an assist from Addi Jerauld. Just five minutes later, Braylynn Martin extended the lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute off a feed from Alivia Joslin. The Lady Tigers carried that 2-0 advantage into halftime. Adairsville came out strong after the break, with Joslin pushing the score to 3-0 in the 45th minute on an assist from Martin. Cartersville responded with a pair of second-half goals but could not complete the comeback. Ali Evans scored in the 55th minute, assisted by Mallory Nicklas, and Scout Hullander added the second goal in the 75th minute, also set up by Nicklas. The loss dropped Cartersville to 10-6 on the season. The Lady Canes will wrap up the regular season with a final tuneup when they host North Paulding on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Adairsville improved to 14-2 and will play at North Murray on Wednesday in its final match before the state playoffs. CANES BLANK TIGERS The Cartersville Hurricanes exploded for nine goals as they cruised to a 9-0 victory over the host Adairsville Tigers on Tuesday night at Adairsville High School. Cartersville got on the board early and never looked back, building a 3-0 halftime lead before adding six more goals in the second half. Colby Craig scored in the 24th minute, Ishmael Flores in the 34th minute, and Rhett Jacobs in the 38th minute. Brayden Alonso assisted on all three goals. The Hurricanes kept the pressure on after halftime, with Filberto Duarte and Pepe Rangel both scoring in the 46th minute to make it 5-0. Joy Toure added a goal in the 55th minute, assisted by Abraham Grande, and Isaac Ocaranzo scored in the 57th minute, also assisted by Grande. Duarte notched his second goal of the night unassisted in the 62nd minute, and Ashton Ortiz capped the scoring in the 77th minute on an assist from Giovanni Pineda. The loss dropped Adairsville to 2-14 on the season. The Tigers return to action with road games at North Murray on Wednesday and at Paulding County on Thursday. Cartersville improved to 10-6 with the win. The Canes will host North Paulding on Thursday in a final regular-season match before the state playoffs begin.

CARTERSVILLE 14, DALTON 4 The Hurricanes posted eleven runs in the first three innings Tuesday evening and cruised to defeat visiting Dalton 14-4 in six innings. Nate Russell (4 IP, 4R, 2ER, 4H, 3BB, 7K) collected the pitching victory. J.B. Nichols (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 4K) worked scoreless fifth and sixth innings on the mound. Cooper Reynolds led the Canes offense with five hits, including two triples and three RBI. David Vargas followed with four hits, including one triple, one double, and three RBI. Nolan Elrod (two RBI) and Asa Mitcham contributed two hits. Cole Crawford (double, sac fly, three RBI), Parker Lively, and Gianni Gandy each added one hit. Cartersville (21-7, 19-0) wraps up regular season play at Dalton (17-9, 13-6) on Thursday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader. CASS 12, HIRAM 0 The Cass Colonels celebrated their 2026 seniors and needed only 4-½ innings Tuesday night to defeat the visiting Hiram Hornets, 12-0, behind the no-hit pitching of Andrew Ray. The Colonels’ hurler issued just one walk and fanned six. Cass scored four runs in the second inning, five in the third, and three in the fourth to take the win. Zach Stiles (two RBI), Dustin Wallin (RBI), Landon Lamb, and Landon Farmer each had one hit for the Colonels, who took advantage of ten walks and four errors by the Hornets. Cass (9-19, 6-13) will finish the 2026 campaign with a doubleheader at Hiram (9-20, 2-17) on Friday, scheduled for a 5 p.m. start. NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 10, ADAIRSVILLE 0 Northwest Whitfield pitcher Kaylor Stancill struck out eight and allowed just two hits and one walk Tuesday evening to blank the Adairsville Tigers, 10-0, in six innings. The host Bruins led a tight game 2-0 through 4-½ innings before scoring four times in the fifth and sixth innings to close out the first game of this week’s 7-AAA series.  Adairsville utilized five pitchers in brief stints in the loss. McCayden Hufstetler (2 IP, 2ER, 2H, 3BB, 2K) made the start for the Tigers and was tagged with the loss. Westin Barfield (2.1 IP, 3R, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 4K), Kaden Coker (0.1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 1K), Tyler Parker (0.1 IP, 4ER, 3H, 2BB), and Bryson Weaver (0.1 IP, 1H) also pitched. Evan Hardin and Coker had the only Adairsville base hits. The Tigers (18-9, 10-6) will host Northwest Whitfield (14-14, 9-7) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., and the series concludes on Friday in Tunnel Hill at 5:30 p.m. ALLATOONA 15, WOODLAND 0 Allatoona pitcher Cooper Slayton struck out six and blanked visiting Woodland on one hit and one walk Tuesday for a 15-0 win. The Buccaneers scored eight runs in the first inning, six in the third, and finished the game with a final run in the fourth inning.   • Chargers' baseball edges East Georgia; GHC softball splits doubleheader at Snead State

The Chargers and Bobcats traded blows for the entire nine innings, but it was Georgia Highlands that walked off with the victory following second baseman Carson Page’s RBI single in the bottom of the final frame. East Georgia State led 7-5 in the middle of the seventh inning, but GHC tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and kept the Bobcats off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Jack Burns (2 I, 0R, 2H, 2K) picked up the pitching win by working two scoreless innings at the end of the game. David McKechnie (5 IP, 3ER, 7H, 2BB, 4K) made a five-inning start. Reed Thursby (0.2 IP, 3R, 2ER, 2H, 1BB), Heath Whitlock (1 IP, 1ER, 3H, 2K), and Jackson Scali (0.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1K) also pitched in middle relief. Caden Marcos led the Chargers’ bats with three hits, including two home runs and three RBI. Wyatt Gatlin (RBI) and Andrew Bishop (double) had two hits. GHC softball splits a doubleheader at Snead State CC Georgia Highlands College softball split a doubleheader on Tuesday at Snead State Community College in Boaz, Alabama. The host Parsons won the opener in eight innings, 3-2, but the Chargers blanked Snead State in the second game, 4-0. Emily Ferro (8 IP, 3R, 2ER, 6H, 1BB, 3K) suffered the pitching loss in the first game. Haley Curtis (7 IP, 0R, 3H, 1BB, 3K) tossed a complete-game shutout in Game 2.  Emma Darrow had two hits in the doubleheader, including one double. Anslee Logan (RBI), Emmalee Freeman (RBI), Mary Catherine Kimball (RBI), Ferro (home run, three RBI), Ahmani Green (three stolen bases), Athens Hudson, Linley Haynes, and CeCe Williams each contributed one hit in the two games. Martin gave up three earned runs on two hits and three walks. He struck out five. Richmond started the week with an 8-1 record and plays a six-game series at the Hartford Yard Goats on Tuesday through Sunday. ANTHONY SEIGLER — Worcester Red Sox (Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate; 9th-year pro; Cartersville HS) … The MLB Red Sox optioned 26-year-old Seigler last week to Worcester after taking him off the MLB injured list to begin the year. Boston acquired him as a utility player from the Milwaukee Brewers in the off-season. Seigler has been dealing with a lingering left knee problem, but was deemed ready to play, although Boston had no place for him on the active MLB roster. He started at third base last Saturday and went 1-for-4 with a double in a 7-0 home loss to the Columbus Clippers. Worcester began the week with a 10-4 mark in the International League East. They play a six-game series at Nashville from Tuesday through Sunday. BEACH VOLLEYBALL AILEE ENGLAND — Berry College (So., Cartersville HS) … went 0-4 in Flight 3 matches with partner Kaylee Howell last Friday and Saturday as the D3 Vikings took on four NCAA Division I opponents in Chattanooga. LAUREN LAWSON — University of South Carolina (Jr., Cartersville HS) … won a Flight 3 match with partner Evie Ziffer and lost a Flight 3 match this past Saturday as the 18th-ranked Gamecocks defeated visiting and 14th-ranked Stetson University, 3-2, but also lost to the Hatters 3-2. CSU (24-15, 16-8 Peach Belt Conference) hosts Auburn University Montgomery on Tuesday and a three-game series with Augusta University on Friday through Sunday. AYDEN RAY — USC Lancaster (So., Woodland HS) … went 4-for-10 and extended his current hitting streak to nine games as the Lancers won two of three games last Saturday and Sunday at USC Sumter. Ray had one walk, scored three runs, and drove in three runs in the series as his season totals rose to a .391 batting average with eight homers and 42 RBI. USC Lancaster (22-20, 9-14 Carolina Junior College Conference) welcomes USC Union for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday. DREW ROTHSCHILD — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (Sr., Cartersville HS) … went 3-for-10, including one walk, two runs scored, and two RBI as the Stallions swept a three-game home series with Point University (GA). ABAC (29-14, 14-7 Southern States Athletic Conference) hosts Albany State University on Tuesday before visiting Blue Mountain University (MS) for three games on Friday and Saturday. LOGAN SHREWSBURY — Columbus State University (Fr., Cartersville HS) … made a 4-⅓ innings start with no decision on April 8 in an eventual 6-2 home loss to the 12th-ranked University of West Florida. He allowed two earned runs on three hits and five walks. Smith was 0-for-6 at the plate. The Wolves (11-25, 8-7 Atlantic Sun Conference) visit Georgia State University on Tuesday night and play a three-game conference series at Jacksonville University (FL) on Friday through Sunday. DAVIS WILLIAMS — University of West Georgia (R-Jr., Cartersville HS) … made two, late-inning relief appearances for the Wolves last week with no decision. He gave up three earned runs on four hits and one walk in a 7-3 home loss to the University of North Florida last Friday. He also retired all four batters he faced in the seventh and eighth innings in a 5-3 loss to the Ospreys. Williams had one strikeout in each appearance. West Georgia (11-25, 8-7 Atlantic Sun Conference) plays at Georgia State University on Tuesday night and has a three-game conference series at Jacksonville University (FL) on Friday through Sunday. SAWYER WILSON — Columbus State University (So., Cartersville HS) … made a three-inning start and was the losing pitcher last Friday in a 12-5 loss at 12th-ranked North Georgia. Wilson yielded six earned runs on eight hits and struck out three. His season record slipped to 4-3. The Cougars (24-15, 16-8 Peach Belt Conference) welcome Auburn University Montgomery on Tuesday and host a three-game conference with Augusta University this weekend.

  • Brumlow wins individual title, Canes runner-up at Allatoona Spring Breakout

    April 14, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com Bodie Brumlow won the 2026 Allatoona Spring Breakout on April 13, carding a 5-under par 67 at The Governors Golf Club. The Carterville High School boys’ golf team recorded its best 18-hole score of the season and finished runner-up on Monday at the 12-team Allatoona Spring Breakout contested at The Governors Golf Club in Acworth.  Bodie Brumlow won the individual title with a 5-under par 67. Reid Henson finished one shot back at 68. The Class 6A Harrison Hoyas won the tournament title. Cartersville shot a 1-over par 289 to finish second. The Canes will return to the same venue next Monday and Tuesday for the 36-hole Billy Peek Invitational.

  • Canes clinch region title, complete sweep of Southeast Whitfield

    April 10, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Cartersville Hurricanes continued their run through Region 7-AAAA on Friday with a pair of run-rule wins in a doubleheader at Southeast Whitfield in Dalton. Cartersville won 15-0 in the first game on Friday and took the second game, 14-1. Friday’s two wins completed a three-game sweep of the Raiders. The Canes won 18-1 at home last Tuesday. Along with other region outcomes this week, the Hurricanes' sweep of Southeast Whitfield enabled Cartersville to clinch the 2026 Region 7-AAAA title with three games remaining.  Pitchers Logan Buchanan (2 IP,  0R, 2H, 0BB, 2K) and Collier Jordan (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 2K) blanked Southeast in the first game on Friday. Cole Crawford (2 IP, 1ER, 0H, 1BB, 3K), Brayden Logan (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 4K), and Wyatt Earwood (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 2K) took care of the pitching duties in the second game.  Logan paced the Canes’ bats in the doubleheader with five hits, including two doubles, one sacrifice fly, and five RBI. Nolan Elrod (home run, doubled , four RBI), Tyler Hickman (double, two RBI), Harris Turner (three RBI), and Crawford (double, sacrifice fly, five RBI) contributed three hits on Friday. Cooper Reynolds (home run, double, four RBI) each had two hits. Gianni Gandy (double, RBI) and Clint Hosea (sacrifice fly, two RBI) added one hit apiece. Southeast Whitfield dropped to 2-25 overall and 1-17 in region games. Cartersville (20-7, 18-0) leads Allatoona and Dalton by five games in the region standings. The Canes will wrap up region and regular season play next week in a three-game, home-and-home series with Dalton (17-8, 13-5). Cartersville will host a single game on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. Dalton will host a doubleheader on Thursday, starting at 5 p.m.

  • Tigers win series with LaFayette, strengthen post-season position

    April 10, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Adairsville Tigers pounded out fourteen hits Friday night at LaFayette to defeat the Ramblers 12-5 in the third game of the two teams’ series during the week.  LaFayette won the series opener on Tuesday in Walker County 4-1, but the Tigers took the series with a 3-1 win on Thursday at home and Friday night’s victory. Adairsville posted seven runs in the first three innings on Friday to build a five-run lead. The Ramblers narrowed the Tigers’ advantage to 8-5 in the sixth inning, but Adairsville secured the win by scoring four times in the seventh. Kaden Coker (5 IP, 2R, 1ER, 3H, 2BB, 8K) collected the pitching win for the Tigers. Bryson Weaver (0.1 IP, 3ER, 1H, 3BB, 1K) and Tyler Parker (1.2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 3K) closed out the final two frames on the mound. The Ramblers slipped to 12-16 overall and 3-15 in Region 7-AAA. Adairsville (18-8, 10-5) plays a three-game series with Northwest Whitfield to conclude regular season play. The Bruins will host on Tuesday and Friday. Adairsville will host on Thursday. All three games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Entering action on Friday night, Adairsville held the No. 10 position in the GHSA Class AAA Post-Season Rankings. The top 32 teams in the rankings at the end of the regular season will qualify for the state playoffs. The top 16 teams will host a first-round series.

  • Woodland wins two at Cass; Tigers wreck Ramblers

    April 9, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Woodland Wildcats swept both games of a doubleheader at Cass on Thursday evening and won the weeklong Region 7-AAAA series two games to one. Cass won the first game of the series on Tuesday at Woodland, 4-2, but the Wildcats won 14-6 and 6-4 on the Colonels’ diamond on Thursday. In Thursday’s opener, Woodland scored five runs in the top of the first inning and added seven in the seventh to put the game away. In the second game, the Wildcats grabbed a 3-1 advantage in the third inning and added single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to hold on to a two-run victory. Woodland took advantage of eleven walks issued by Cass pitchers. Clayton Wilkes (3.1 IP, 5ER, 3H, 2BB, 5K) was the winning pitcher for Woodland in Thursday’s opener. Zaylen Cochran (1.2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 1H, 2K) and Alfredo Romo (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 1K) pitched in relief for the Wildcats. Blake Forstie (6.2 IP, 4ER, 5H, 6BB, 5K) picked up Woodland’s pitching win in the nightcap. Brylon Reynolds (0.1 IP, 0R, 1H) retired the final out of the seventh inning. Dustin Wallin (0.2 IP, 5ER, 5H, 2BB, 1K) suffered the pitching loss for Cass in the first game on Thursday. Easton Lee (5.1 IP, 2R, 0ER, 4H, 1K), Andrew Ray (0.0 IP, 2ER, 1BB), Landon Lamb (0.0 IP, 3ER, 3BB), and Landon Farmer (1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) also pitched for the Colonels. Noah Rogers (4 IP, 3R, 1ER, 1H, 6BB) made the start for Cass in the second game and was charged with the loss. Wallin (3 IP, 3R, 2ER, 0H, 5BB, 6K) pitched the final three frames.  Tommy Risner had three hits and three RBI to lead Woodland in the doubleheader. Jacob Tatum (double, two RBI), Logan Smith, and Sammy Ray (double, two RBI) followed with two hits each. Preston Sorrells, Grant Tidwell, Jonathy Ryan (RBI), and Steven Tumlin (double, two RBI) added one hit each for the Wildcats. Romo added one RBI. Woodland (13-13, 8-10) plays at Allatoona on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.  Cass (8-19, 5-13) welcomes Hiram on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. TIGERS EVEN SERIES WITH LAFAYETTE The Adairsville Tigers bounced back on Thursday at home to even their three-game Region 7-AAA series with the LaFayette Ramblers. The Tigers, who fell 4-1 on Tuesday, won 3-1 on Thursday. Hudson Parr was outstanding on the mound and hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to give Adairsville an important insurance run. The Tigers’ hurler allowed only one, unearned run on three hits and two walks. He fanned thirteen in a seven-inning performance. Harrison Cole had two hits for Adairsville, and Westin Barfield drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Adairsville (17-8, 9-5) travels to LaFayette (12-15, 3-14) for the final game of the series on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

  • Tigers stumble in series opener at LaFayette

    April 8, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Adairsville Tigers lost the opening game of their three-game, home-and-home series against LaFayette on Tuesday night. The Ramblers, playing at home, secured a 4-1 victory in the first matchup. LaFayette took an early advantage with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Although the Tigers equalized in the third inning, the Ramblers responded with three consecutive runs in the third and fourth innings. McCayden Hufstetler (4 IP, 4R, 2ER, 4H, 5BB, 9K) started on the mound for Adairsville and suffered the pitching loss. Tyler Parker (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 3K) pitched the final two innings for the Tigers. Harrison Cole had two hits for Adairsville. Westin Barfield (double), Brody Varner, Hudson Parr, and Hayden Miller each added one hit. LaFayette (12-14, 3-13) and Adairsville (16-8, 8-5) will continue their series on Thursday and Friday. The Tigers will play at home on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., while the Ramblers will host the final game of the series on Friday at 6 p.m.
