Local baseball talent continues to compete on national stage at LakePoint

If you thought the summer travel baseball schedule was winding down, you might be mistaken.

There is plenty of baseball action in progress and even more coming to LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson and dozens of satellite fields in the area during the month of July.

Currently, Perfect Game USA and LakePoint are hosting the 17U World Wood Bat Association National Championship.

The nationally recognized event is likely the most scouted tournament in the country, with hundreds of college and MLB scouts watching almost 400 teams from 31 different states. The tournament utilizes the eight sports turf fields at LakePoint as its anchor site, but also includes games played at 35 other sites all across Metro and Northwest Georgia between July 1 and July 8.

Several other major events, including the WWBA National Championships for 14U and 18U teams were played at LakePoint in late June. In fact, the 18U title game featured a pair of Cartersville High School players in opposite dugouts as the East Cobb Astros and Auburn-bound Elliott Anderson squared off against Devin Warner and the East Cobb Yankees. The Astros took the championship game in a battle of teams from the same powerhouse program. Roadrunner Baseball of Alpharetta defeated the Houston (TX) Banditos for the 14U National WWBA title.
