Cass soccer sweeps Paulding County, Adairsville girls tie Model

The Cass girls and boys soccer teams earned important Region 7-AAAAA victories Tuesday night at home facing Paulding County.


The Lady Colonels won in a a shootout, 6-5 and the Colonels cruised to an easy 9-1 victory.


At Adairsville, the Lady Tigers battled Model to a 5-5 draw while the Tigers fell to the Blue Devils, 6-4.

 

CASS GIRLS 3, PAULDING CO. 2 (Cass wins 6-5 in shootout)


Logan Vermaas scored both Cass goals and Briana Ochoa added an assist in regulation. After a pair of scoreless, five-minute overtime sessions the game was decided in a shootout.


Vermaas, Hailey Henson, Leidi Toribio, Hannah Johnson, Ochoa, and Macy Wright converted penalty kicks for the Lady Colonels.


Paulding slipped to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in region play.


Cass (3-6, 1-2) travels to East Paulding next Tuesday for another region match.




CASS BOYS 9, PAULDING CO. 1


The Colonels took a 3-1 lead to the intermission, but broke the game wide-open in the second half with six unanswered goals for a 9-1 Region 7-AAAAA win.


Carlos Perez scored five goals for Cass and Anthony Robledo found the net three times for the Colonels. Robledo also contributed a pair of assists.


Julio Medina assisted on two tallies and scored one goal himself. Jonathan Tong, Josh Flores, and Javier Duarte added one helper each and keeper Isai Romero made seven saves.


Paulding County (2-6, 0-3) scored its only goal on a penalty kick.


Cass (2-7, 1-2) plays at East Paulding next Tuesday.




ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 5, MODEL 5


Emily Collum scored five times to lead the Lady Tigers to a 5-5 draw with visiting Model Tuesday night in non-region action.


The match was close throughout and was knotted 2-2 at halftime.


Gillian Johnson assisted on three of the Adairsville goals.


The Lady Tigers (4-1-2, 1-1 Region 6AAA) host Murray County in a region match next Tuesday.




MODEL BOYS 6, ADAIRSVILLE 4


The Tigers held leads of 1-0, 2-1, and 4-2, but unbeaten Model put the final four goals in the back of the net as the visiting Blue Devils escaped with a 6-4 non-region win.


Emmanuel Lopez scored twice for the Tigers. Joseph Pacheco and Miguel Garcia added the other Adairsville goals. Keeper Nic Jackson recorded eight saves.


Adairsville, 2-0 in Region 6-AAA, returns to league action next Tuesday when they host Murray County.
