NFL TREVOR LAWRENCE — Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL; 3rd-yr. pro; QB; Clemson; Cartersville HS) … was 24-for-32 passing for 262 yards and two touchdowns Sunday afternoon in a 34-14 home win over the Tennessee Titans. He added five rushing attempts for 17 yards and two more touchdowns. Lawrence had a 3-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Ridley in the first quarter as the Jags carried a 13-0 lead to the intermission. In the second half, he had a 20-yard touchdown pass to Ridley and touchdown runs of 9- and 5-yards. Jacksonville (7-3) heads to Houston to face the Texans on Sunday afternoon. NBA G-LEAGUE ASHTON HAGANS — Rip City Remix (4th yr. pro; Cartersville native; Kentucky; Newton HS) … had 11 points, five assists, three rebounds, and two steals last Friday in a 114-110 loss to the South Bay Lakers. He then scored four points with three assists, three steals, one rebound, and one blocked shot Saturday in a 103-75 loss to the Ontario Clippers. Rip City (2-3) plays Ontario on Monday before facing the Salt Lake City Stars on Friday and Sunday. COLLEGE FOOTBALL KOLBE BENHAM — Marist College (R-So., Cartersville HS) … saw action but did not have a stat line in a 38-21 home loss to Bucknell this past Saturday. Benham saw action in all 11 games for the Red Foxes this season and recorded 19 tackles including one tackle for a loss. Marist finished the 2023 season with a 4-7 record and was 4-4 in the Pioneer Football League. COLLIN FLETCHER — Reinhardt University (Fr., Cartersville HS) … had one reception for 18 yards in the Eagles’ 55-7 NAIA first-round playoff loss at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida. Fletcher finished his first collegiate season with 19 catches for 462 yards and four touchdowns. He added two rushes for 25 yards playing in 10 of the Eagles’ 11 games. Reinhardt’s season ends with an 8-3 record. JONAH GAMBILL — University of Memphis (R-Jr., Cartersville HS) … a starter on the Tigers’ offensive line that produced 464 yards of offense but lost at home to SMU, 38-34. Memphis (8-3, 5-2 American Athletic Conference) plays at Temple on Friday afternoon. SHADRE HURST — Tulane University (R-Fr., Cartersville HS) … a starter on the offensive line for the Green Wave, Hurst was part of a unit that produced 336 total yards in a 24-8 win this past Saturday at Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton. 17th-ranked Tulane (10-1, 7-0 American Athletic Conference) carries a nine-game winning streak into Friday’s regular-season finale at home against UTSA. SAM PHILLIPS — UT-Chattanooga (R-So., Cartersville HS) … had a pair of pass receptions for 17 yards this past Saturday in a 66-10 loss at 8th-ranked Alabama. For the season, Phillips caught 52 passes for 537 yards and four touchdowns. He added four punt returns this season for 38 yards. Chattanooga finishes the season 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the Southern Conference. DEVONTE ROSS — Troy University (So., Cartersville HS) … caught four passes for 47 yards and had one kick return for 20 yards this past Saturday in the Trojans’ 31-24 home win over Louisiana. Troy (9-2, 6-1 Sun Belt Conference) plays at Southern Miss on Saturday. SWIMMING HARPER POWELL — Florida Tech (Jr., Adairsville HS) … was on the second place 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:35.18); ninth in the 50-yard freestyle (24.48); on the seventh place 200-yard medley relay team (1:47.82); and was 15th (1:01.80) in the 100-yard backstroke as the Lady Panthers finished runner-up to Indian River State College at the six-team Panther Invitational this past weekend. Florida Tech will host SCAD-Savannah for their next meet on Friday, December 15. WRESTLING ANGEL BANDA — Reinhardt University (Sr., Adairsville HS) … had a decision victory this past Saturday at 125-pounds in a home 19-17 win over 3rd-ranked Southeastern University. He also picked up a forfeit win as the Eagles beat Montreat (North Carolina) 47-3.  Next for 3rd-ranked Reinhardt is a meet on Saturday, December 9 at Lindsey Wilson College (Kentucky). CALEB HENSON — Virginia Tech (So., Woodland HS) … put on a takedown clinic at the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia this past Sunday to outscore the field 72-13 without surrendering a single offensive point. Henson was one of four Hokies to win weight class titles at the prestigious event. Henson went major decision, tech fall, tech fall, and tech fall to pick up a dominant title a year after the All-American placed third at the same tournament. Last Friday, Henson scored a 4-1 win over 23rd-ranked Jacob Butler as the 8th-ranked Hokies earned a 19-12 win at 13th-ranked Rutgers. Virginia Tech heads to Las Vegas this weekend for the Cliff Keen Invitational. CHARLES HIGDON — Lander University (Fr., Woodland HS) … competing in the 197-pound division, Higdon went 3-2 including two pins and one major decision at the Life University Invitational last Saturday in Marietta. The Bearcats are back on the mats Wednesday, November 29 at home against the University of Mount Olive. BRYCE KRESHO — Franklin & Marshall College (So., Cass HS) ... went 2-3 and placed eighth at the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia this past Sunday. Franklin & Marshall finished fifth of ten teams behind Penn, Virginia Tech, Drexel, and Appalachian State. The Diplomats also finished 10th of 28 teams last Saturday at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial in Millersville, Pennsylvania. Franklin & Marshall will host Michigan State, VMI, Presbyterian, and Bloomsburg this weekend. CADEN McCRARY — University of North Carolina (R-So., Woodland HS) … in matches Sunday in Champaign, Illinois he won his bout at 133 pounds with a 6-3 decision as 22nd-ranked North Carolina defeated Central Michigan 25-10. He then lost an 8-0 decision to his opponent from Illinois as the Tar Heels lost 20-13. North Carolina will compete in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational this weekend. TYLER-XAVIER McKNIGHT — Davidson College (Fr., Cass HS) … competing at 149-pounds, McKnight made it to the consolation semifinals of the Navy Classic in Annapolis before falling 4-1 just one match before the third-place bout. Up next for the Wildcats is dual action with George Mason on December 2 in Fairfax, Virginia. JABRIL WILLIAMS — Midway University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … lost in a major decision last Wednesday in the Eagles’ 27-16 loss at the University of Montevallo. Next for Midway is the Blithe Memorial Duals in Grand Rapids, Michigan on December 1-2. BASKETBALL BRAXTON BENHAM — Berry College (Jr., Cass HS) … produced a double-double last Friday with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Vikings beat Southern Virginia University in Salem, Virginia. In Saturday’s loss to Roanoke College in Salem, Benham had 23 points and five boards. In the two games, he also totaled 10 assists and eight steals. Berry (1-2) visits LaGrange College Tuesday night and hosts Emory University on Sunday afternoon. CLAIRE DAVIS — Palm Beach Atlantic University (So., Cass HS) … scored three points and had six rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one blocked shot in a 73-65 Sailfish home win over West Alabama. PBAU (2-1) will Daeman University on Friday and Purdue Northwest on Saturday at the Nova Southeastern University Thanksgiving Classic. JUSTICE HAYES — Point University (Jr., Cass HS) … coming off the Skyhawks’ bench, Hayes scored three points last Wednesday in a 78-68 loss at Life University. He then scored 11 points and grabbed a pair of rebounds Saturday in a 92-81 loss at Dalton State. Point (5-3, 0-2 Appalachian Athletic Conference) plays an exhibition Monday night at West Georgia. DiANTHONY HEATHCOCK — Columbia International University (Sr., Woodland HS) … scored 23 points with seven rebounds, two steals, and one assist in a home 88-74 win over Truett-McConnell University. At Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday the 6-7 forward scored seven points with seven rebounds and one assist in a 70-67 victory. PRINTUP — Tusculum University (R-Fr., Adairsville HS) … saw action but had no stat line last Wednesday in an 85-70 loss at USC-Aiken. He then scored 14 points with six rebounds and one steal in Saturday’s 81-80 home win over 8th-ranked UNC-Pembroke. Tusculum (2-1) hosts the University of North Georgia on Tuesday night. ABIGAIL TAYLOR — Centre College (So., Woodland HS) … in limited minutes in a pair of home games vs. Averett University and Warren Wilson College over the past weekend, Taylor totaled one point, one assist, and three rebounds as the Colonels won 74-37 and 90-39. Centre (4-0) plays at Hanover College on Monday night.

November 20, 2023 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Woodland wrestling team finished second this past Saturday at the Allatoona High School Blackbeard Duals. Woodland defeated Union Grove, Gilmer, and Cass by three points to reach the finals where the Wildcats fell to Creekview. Cass finished fifth with wins over Alexander, Sequoyah, and North Paulding. Woodland will wrestle in the Dalton Invitational on December 2 at Dalton High School. Cass, still missing several team members with football’s extended playoff run, will compete in the Central-Carroll Grappler Invitational on Tuesday and will also participate in the Dalton Invitational on December 2.

The Woodland swim team defeated Cass on November 14 at the Adairsville High School pool by a combined team score of 145 to 80. The Woodland girls outscored Cass 65-54 while the Woodland boys outdistanced Cass 80-26. Complete individual results are shown: Woodland competes next on December 2 at Adairsville. Cass hosts a home meet on November 28 at the Adairsville pool.

November 18, 2023 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Cass Colonels reeled off a third consecutive upset Friday night and took down the Mays Raiders, 17-7, in the Sweet Sixteen round of the GHSA Class 5A State Playoffs. The second-round playoff game was a rematch of a second-round game one year ago when the Raiders scored a late touchdown to edge the Colonels, 34-27. Playing at Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta, the Colonels built a 14-0 lead in the first half and held off the Region 5-5A runner-up Raiders in the second half. The game was delayed at halftime by more than one hour due to malfunctions with the stadium lights. Both teams returned from the intermission to the field with only one-half of the stadium lights operating. Eventually, game officials sent both teams back to their locker rooms until the lighting was restored. Cass, who had to beat 10th-ranked Calhoun in their regular season finale just to qualify for the state playoffs, scored on its second possession of the first quarter and never trailed the Raiders. Starting at their own 40-yard line, the Colonels took nine plays to post the game’s first score. Key runs by sophomore quarterback Brodie McWhorter and a nice pitch, catch, and run from McWhorter to Chase Tatum spurred the 60-yard drive that was culminated by Devin Henderson’s two-yard run. Austin McArthur booted the PAT to give Cass a 7-0 lead with 2:58 left in the first quarter. After stopping Mays on the Raiders' next possession, Cass engineered an 81-yard drive to take a 14-0 lead with 10:22 remaining in the second quarter. Runs by McWhorter and Henderson plus clutch receptions by Sacovie White moved the Colonels down the gridiron. The drive was capped with a 30-yard touchdown pass from McWhorter to wide receiver Colton Cotton who sprang free down the right sideline. Following the long halftime delay, the Raiders cut their deficit to 14-7 midway through the third quarter. Both teams punted away their first possessions of the second half before Mays got on the scoreboard. An eight-play, 65-yard drive was finished off with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Semaj Martinez to Quintarian Kelley with 5:54 remaining in the third quarter. Much of the remainder of the game was a defensive stalemate including one huge stop by Cass. The Colonels left Mays with a short field following a sack and fumble by McWhorter at the Cass 24-yard line with 9:50 left in the game. The Raiders moved to the Cass 12-yard line on a pass interference call but were then called for an offensive pass interference on third down. Cass coach Steve Gates decided to decline that penalty to force a fourth down and 11 play at the Colonels' 12-yard line. The Cass defense was able to thwart the Raiders’ pass attempt to end the threat. The Cass offense took over from there to help secure the win with a 15-play, 84-yard drive. A 16-yard pass from McWhorter to Devin Henderson converted a 3rd-and-10 to get the drive started. Following a seven-yard reception by Colton Cotton and a short run by Henderson, McWhorter converted a 4th-and-inches near midfield with a quarterback sneak to keep the drive going. A 27-yard pass to White picked up another first down to the Mays’ 21-yard line and Henderson’s 15-yard run moved the Colonels inside the Mays 6-yard line in the final two minutes. The Raiders used each of their three timeouts following each snap and run by the Colonels.  On fourth down, McArthur was successful with a 21-yard field goal to make the score 17-7 with 1:08 left in the game. Mays returned the ensuing kickoff into Cass territory to threaten one final time but Devin Henderson picked off his second interception of the game near the goal line to seal the Colonels’ victory. McWhorter finished 16-for-22 passing (72.7%) for 180 yards and one touchdown. He also ran 18 times for 40 yards. Henderson had 20 carries for 94 yards and one score. He also made two pass receptions for 38 yards. White caught ten passes for 78 yards. Cotton hauled in two passes for 40 yards including a touchdown and tight end Chase Tatum caught a pair of passes for 24 yards. The Colonels rolled up 314 yards of total offense in their win. Mays’ season ends with a 7-5 record. Cass (7-5) reaches the state quarterfinals for the first time since 1983 and will travel to Douglas to challenge the unbeaten and No. 1 ranked Coffee Trojans on Friday. Coffee (12-0) beat Jones County 45-14 in the second round and blanked Chamblee in the first round, 56-0. The Trojans are the Region 1-5A champs and are making their seventh quarterfinal appearance in the last eight years. They have outscored their opponents 489 to 68 through the first 12 games of 2023. In other Class 5A second-round games Friday night, Cartersville downed Eastside 28-9, Jefferson stopped Hiram 42-21, Harris County routed Statesboro 42-7, Creekside beat Dalton 49-24, and Warner Robins edged Ware County 23-21. The Adairsville Lady Tigers opened their 2023-24 basketball season Saturday with a 47-21 win over visiting Darlington. The Adairsville girls led 18-5 at the end of the first quarter and held a 35-9 advantage at halftime. Zariyah Hicks led the Lady Tigers in the scoring column with nine points. Alissa Winters followed with seven. Darby Adams and NaXyria Roberts finished with six points each while Alivia Joslin and Aliya McBryde added five each. Emma Hunt led Darlington with seven points. Adairsville (1-0) hosts Model on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. and will play two games on Tuesday facing Gilmer at 3 p.m. and Dalton in a 7:30 p.m. matchup. CARROLLTON 74, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 27 The Lady Canes fell behind early and never recovered Saturday while taking on the host Carrollton Lady Trojans at the Carrollton Girls Night Out showcase. Carrollton led 15-7 after one quarter and built a 38-13 lead by the intermission. Madison Swint led Carrollton (1-0) with 17 points. Senai Camper scored seven points for Cartersville. KK Arnold, Ansley Griffin, and Zoie Shiflett added five each for the Lady Canes. November 18, 2023 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes advanced to the state quarterfinals for the 19th time in program history Friday night and eliminated the Eastside Eagles, 28-9. Cartersville trailed 6-0 early in the game and traded multiple miscues with the Eagles in the early going. Turner Abernathy had a recovery of an Eagles’ fumble on a punt. Tayshaun Carter recovered an errant punt snap by Eastside, and the Canes’ defense came up with two big stops near its own goal line — all in the first half. Cartersville also fumbled twice for turnovers of their own in the opening 24 minutes. Eastside running back Jayden Barr scored on a five-yard run that gave the Eagles a first-quarter touchdown but the Canes’ Keylan McCarty blocked Eastside’s extra point attempt. The Hurricanes responded with 14 unanswered points to take the lead. Running back Khristian Lando found paydirt with two of his three touchdown runs on the night as the Canes built a 14-6 advantage midway through the second quarter. The senior finished the night with scoring runs from 16, two, and one yard out in the victory. The Eagles, who had driven to the Canes' 1-yard line before making an errant snap, settled for a field goal before the intermission to narrow the Cartersville lead to 14-9. As it turned out, that would be as close as the Eagles would get. In the third quarter, Lando finished off a Canes’ drive with his third touchdown run of the night that put Cartersville up 21-9. Later in the fourth quarter, Logan Shrewsbury returned a punt to the Eastside 30-yard line to set up the Hurricanes’ final scoring play. Quarterback Nate Russell connected with Richard Houston on an 11-yard screen pass that provided the Canes’ 28-9 winning margin. Eastside finished the season 8-4 after making the second round for the second time in three years. Cartersville (12-0) will host Jenkins next Friday at Weinman Stadium in the state quarterfinals. The Warriors, the No. 4 seed from Region 1-5A, have won a pair of one-point decisions in the first two rounds. Jenkins (5-7) knocked off Arabia Mountain 14-13 in the first round and edged Dutchtown in Round 2, 28-27. In other Class 5A second-round action, Cass beat Mays 17-7, top-ranked Coffee topped Jones County 45-14, Jefferson stopped Hiram 42-21, Harris County cruised by Statesboro 42-7, Creekside stopped Dalton 49-24, and Warner Robins outlasted Ware County 23-21. The Woodland Lady Cats began their 2023-24 regular season Thursday night in Cobb County with a 60-8 lopsided win at Allatoona. Woodland led 26-0 after one quarter and 45-1 at the intermission. Megan Schultz led the Lady Cats with 15 points. Reagan Weightman followed with 10. Indya Coaxum and Gracie Shipp added eight points each. Woodland (1-0) visits Murray County on Saturday at 3 p.m. ALLATOONA 59, WOODLAND BOYS 40 The Woodland boys lost their season opener at Allatoona on Thursday evening, 59-40. The Buccaneers improved to 1-1 on the season. The Wildcats (0-1) return to action Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Ridgeland.

The Cartersville High School wrestling team earned five individual titles and a runner-up team finish on Saturday, November 11 at North Cobb High School. Weight class winners for the Canes included Grant Adams (126 lbs.), Eaiden Neal (132 lbs.), Grey Williams (138 lbs.), Talan Nix (144 lbs.), and Jackson Latimer (150 lbs.). Will Benson (126 lbs.) finished second in his division with Wyatt Earwood (132 lbs.) in third place. Blake Lutjens (113 lbs.), Tyler Phillips (165 lbs.), and Peter Cepeda (175 lbs.) finished fourth. Head coach Sammy Rosario is excited about the opportunities for this year's team. “I’m proud of the way the guys competed this weekend,” he said. “The results from all of our student-athletes are a direct result of the hard work these young men have been putting in during the off-season. We’re excited that wrestling season is here and looking forward to improving throughout the year.” Cartersville heads to Coosa High School this Saturday (Nov. 18) for Iron Eagle Duals.

The Cartersville girls basketball team began its 2023-24 campaign this past Saturday with a 67-49 win at Paulding County. Cartersville led 32-24 at halftime and pulled away in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Patriots 20-4 in the final eight minutes. Kaytlin Arnold led the Lady Canes with 19 points, six rebounds, and six steals. Taff Bradley followed with 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Jayda Cothran had eight boards and six assists. Ansley Griffin added eight rebounds. Alexus Wilson led Paulding County with 18 points. Cartersville (1-0) plays at Carrollton on Saturday night. SHILOH HILLS CHRISTIAN 59, EXCEL CHRISTIAN GIRLS 28 The Lady Eagles trailed 33-10 by halftime and lost their season opener at Shiloh Hills Christian Academy on Tuesday, 59-28. Excel (0-1) returns to action on November 28 at Praise Academy. SHILOH HILLS CHRISTIAN 73, EXCEL CHRISTIAN BOYS 57 Carlos Cartagena scored 21 points and David Jinks finished with 15 but the Excel Christian Academy boys slipped to 0-2 on the season Tuesday night with a 73-57 loss at Shiloh Hills Christian Academy. Christian Vieira led Excel in rebounds with five. On November 2, the Eagles lost at Cornerstone Prep Academy, 86-68. David Jinks led Excel with 23 points. Kingston Eleazer posted 15 points. Carlos Cartagena finished with 13 points and Zion Green added 11 in the loss. Excel (0-2) returns to action on Monday afternoon at Gordon Central.

The Cass boys basketball team dropped its 2023-24 season opener at Whitefield Academy Tuesday night, 57-54. The Colonels, playing without its members that play football, led 29-24 at halftime and swapped leads with the host Wolfpack throughout the second half. “This was a tough one,” said Cass head coach Kevin Cunningham. “With the football guys missing, we still had a shot at the buzzer. We were short-handed and in early foul trouble.” Freshman Jakez Baldwin led the Colonels with 16 points. Jayden Foster followed with 12. Whitefield Academy improved to 1-0. Cass (0-1) plays at East Paulding next Tuesday.

The Cass girls basketball team opened its 2023-24 season Tuesday night at Kennesaw Mountain with a 65-16 win. Olivia Woods and Tamira Feanny shared scoring honors for Cass with 11 points each. Kaitlyn Godwin scored nine and KK Evans added eight. The Lady Mustangs slipped to 0-2 on the season with their loss. Cass (1-0) plays at East Paulding next Tuesday, November 21.

NFL TREVOR LAWRENCE — Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL; 3rd-yr. pro; QB; Clemson; Cartersville HS) … was 17-for-29 passing for 185 yards in a 34-3 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers this past Sunday. Lawrence was sacked five times and threw a pair of interceptions. He had two rushing attempts for seven yards. Jacksonville (6-3) hosts the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon. NBA G-LEAGUE ASHTON HAGANS — Rip City Remix (4th yr. pro; Cartersville native; Kentucky; Newton HS) … saw only brief action and had no stat line in one of two games last Friday and Saturday. Rip City won twice at the South Bay Lakers. Now 2-0, the Remix has games this week at the Ontario Clippers and at home (Friday and Saturday) against the Lakers and Clippers. COLLEGE FOOTBALL KOLBE BENHAM — Marist College (R-So., Cartersville HS) … tied his season high of five tackles including four solo tackles in a 35-6 loss this past Saturday at Dayton. Marist (4-6, 4-4 Pioneer Football League) completes the regular season this Saturday at home against Bucknell. HAYDEN CAGLE — Berry College (Jr., Cartersville HS) … the starting center for the Vikings’ offensive unit that produced 351 yards of total offense in a 36-12 win at home this past Saturday over Rhodes College. The Vikings (9-1, 7-1 Southern Athletic Association), ranked No. 23 nationally, were not selected for the NCAA D3 playoffs and their season ends. ISAIAH CHANEY — Wake Forest University (R-Jr., Cartersville HS) … saw action this past Saturday but did not have a stat line in a 26-6 home loss to N.C. State. The Demon Deacons (4-6, 1-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) play at Notre Dame this Saturday. COLLIN FLETCHER — Reinhardt University (Fr., Cartersville HS) … had three receptions for 51 yards in a 70-27 blowout win at home this past Saturday over Bluefield University (Virginia). He also had one rushing attempt for 14 yards. The 21st-ranked Eagles (8-2, 6-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference) open the NAIA National Championship playoffs Saturday at St. Thomas (Florida). TYWUN GORDON — College of Sequoias (So., Adairsville HS) … made two tackles and had one sack in the Giants’ 14-0 win this past Saturday at Contra Costa CC. College of Sequoias (5-5, 2-3 California Community College Athletic Association) became bowl eligible with the win. JARVIS HICKS — University of North Carolina (R-Fr., Woodland HS) … did not see action this past Saturday in the Tar Heels’ 47-45 overtime win over Duke but was a late addition to last week’s (Nov. 4) participation list. Hicks saw his first collegiate action with the UNC offensive line that helped produce 594 total yards in a 59-7 home win over Campbell. SHADRE HURST — Tulane University (R-Fr., Cartersville HS) … a starter on the Green Wave’s offensive line that helped produce 357 yards of total offense in a 24-22 home victory over Tulsa this past Saturday. 20th-ranked Tulane (9-1, 6-0 American Athletic Association) carries an eight-game win streak to play at Florida Atlantic this Saturday. TYLER MARTIN — Berry College (So., Cass HS) … the offensive lineman was part of a unit that totaled 351 yards of total offense in a 36-12 win at home this past Saturday over Rhodes College. The 23rd-ranked Vikings (9-1, 7-1 Southern Athletic Association) finished as conference runner-up and did not receive an at-large bid for the national D3 playoffs. DEVONTE ROSS — Troy University (So., Cartersville HS) … had four catches for 26 yards including a nine-yard touchdown this past Saturday in a 45-14 conference win at Louisiana-Monroe. He also had one kick return of 33 yards. The Trojans (8-2, 5-1 Sun Belt Conference) put their seven-game win streak on the line this Saturday when they host Louisiana. COURTNEY SLOCUM — Mars Hill University (Sr., Adairsville HS) … was credited with one pass breakup in this past Saturday’s 21-14 home win over Newberry. Slocum finished his senior season with 14 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, a blocked kick, and three pass breakups. The Lions finished the year 8-2 with a 7-2 mark in the South Atlantic Conference. EVAN SLOCUM — Wake Forest University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … made two tackles this past Saturday in the Demon Deacons’ 26-6 loss at home to N.C. State. Wake Forest (4-6, 1-6 ACC) visits Notre Dame this Saturday. VOLLEYBALL MADELYN ORTON — LaGrange College (So., Rydal resident, Cornerstone Prep) … had one service ace and five digs in a Collegiate Conference of the South tournament loss to Huntingdon in Birmingham last Tuesday. The Panthers’ season ends with a 4-21 record. MARIA PILIPOSYANS — Reinhardt University (So., Cass HS) … in two matches at the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament this past Friday and Saturday, Piliposyans had five kills and one block as the Eagles beat Truett-McConnell but lost to Columbia International. The outside hitter finished her sophomore season with 86 kills, 42 blocks, and 11 digs. Reinhardt finished the season with a 22-8 mark. GOLF DALTON HENSON — Reinhardt University (Sr., Cartersville HS) … shot 78-78-75 as the Eagles finished fifth of nine teams November 6-7 at Barnsley Gardens Resort in Adairsville. Henson’s total was good for a T10 individual finish. Point University won the tournament. Reinhardt will return for the spring season in January. CHANC WILLIS — Reinhardt University (Sr., Cartersville HS) … led his team and finished eighth place overall carding rounds of 74-80-76 as the Eagles finished fifth of nine teams playing at Barnsley Gardens Resort November 6-7. Reinhardt will return to action in late January. SWIMMING HARPER POWELL — Florida Tech (Jr., Adairsville HS) … in a tri-meet with Indian River State College and Keiser University last Wednesday, Powell was on the third place 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:40.10); placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.09); and was sixth in the 50-yard backstroke (28.79). The Panthers lost to IRSC 198-63 and to Keiser 174-87. Up next for FIT is the Panther Invite this Friday through Sunday in Melbourne. BASKETBALL BRAXTON BENHAM — Berry College (Jr., Cass HS) … scored 18 points with seven assists, four steals, and three rebounds in the Vikings’ 94-87 loss this past Saturday at Belhaven (Mississippi). Berry plays at Belmont University on Tuesday then plays at Southern Virginia on Friday night and either Roanoke College or Brooklyn College in Salem on Saturday. ZAYLAN CHANEY — Tallahassee CC (So., Cartersville resident, Legacy Academy) … averaged nine points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block in the Eagles’ first three games — wins over Central Georgia Tech and Gordon State at home with a loss at South Georgia Tech. Tallahassee CC (2-1) plays at St. Petersburg College Friday night and hosts South Georgia Tech Monday night. CLAIRE DAVIS — Palm Beach Atlantic University (So., Cass HS) … averaged nine points, seven rebounds, one block, and one steal as the Sailfish won 64-58 at West Florida and lost 72-64 at home to Valdosta State last Friday and Saturday. PBAU (1-1) hosts West Alabama this Saturday. JA’KA’YAH DRAUGHN — Chattanooga State CC (Fr., Cartersville HS) … averaged four points, one rebound, and two assists as the Tigers opened the season with wins over Brenau JV and Milligan JV on November 1 and 9. CSCC (2-0) hosts Cleveland State CC on Wednesday and visits Jackson State CC on Saturday. JUSTICE HAYES — Point University (Jr., Cass HS) … totaled nine points, 13 rebounds, two steals, and one assist as Point beat Southern University at New Orleans and Southeastern University this past Thursday and Saturday at home. The Skyhawks (5-1) play at Life University on Wednesday, at Dalton State on Saturday, and at West Georgia next Monday. DiANTHONY HEATHCOCK — Columbia International University (Sr., Woodland HS) … in three starts last week, the Rams’ forward averaged nine points, nine rebounds, and one assist in a win over Bryan College (Tennessee), a win at St. Andrews University, and an exhibition loss at Presbyterian College. CIU (3-1, 2-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference) plays at UNC-Wilmington (exhibition) on Tuesday, at home against Truett McConnell University on Thursday, and at Tennessee Wesleyan University on Saturday. HALEY JOHNSON — Central Georgia Tech CC (So., Cass HS) … averaged eight points, six rebounds, one assist, and one steal in three games last week. The Titans won at home over Brenau University JV but lost at Hillsborough CC and at St. Petersburg College. CGTCC (1-5) travels to Southern Union State CC on Wednesday night. KEARA McDANIEL — Toccoa Falls College (So., Cass HS) … scored two points with one rebound and four assists Monday, November 6 in an 89-68 loss at Johnson University (Tennessee). She also scored two points with one rebound and three assists last Wednesday in an 84-48 home win over Warren Wilson College last Wednesday. Toccoa Falls (4-1) hosts Paine College on Tuesday, Trinity (Florida) on Friday, and Mississippi University for Women on Saturday. T.J. PRINTUP — Tusculum University (R-Fr., Adairsville HS) … scored five points and collected seven rebounds last Friday in an 83-77 home win over Lander University. The Pioneers (1-0) visit USC-Aiken Wednesday and host 8th-ranked UNC-Pembroke on Saturday afternoon. ABIGAIL TAYLOR — Centre College (So., Woodland HS) … did not score but had one blocked shot in the Colonels’ 69-27 win this past Saturday at Agnes Scott College. Centre (2-0) hosts the Colonel Classic Friday and Saturday and will play Averett and Warren Wilson. LONDAISHA SMITH — Salem University (Jr., Cass HS) … totaled three points in losses Friday and Saturday to the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown and Winston-Salem University in games played in Frostburg, Maryland. The Tigers (0-2) play at Indiana University-Pennsylvania on Monday before hosting Seton Hill (Pennsylvania) on Wednesday and West Liberty University on Saturday. WRESTLING COLTON BISHOP — Reinhardt University (Jr., Woodland HS) … placed second in the 125-pound class at the Georgia Open hosted by Emmanuel College this past weekend. The Eagles have Montreat (North Carolina) and Southeastern (Florida) on the schedule this Friday and the Life University Open on Saturday. CALEB HENSON — Virginia Tech (So., Woodland HS) … pinned his opponent from American University this past Saturday as the 5th-ranked Hokies won 39-4. He also defeated his Ohio State opponent, 10-5, last Friday but the 7th-ranked Buckeyes won the match 24-12. Virginia Tech visits Rutgers on Friday night and will participate in the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia on Sunday. CADEN McCRARY — University of North Carolina (R-So., Woodland HS) … had a first-period pin against his 133-pound Buffalo opponent this past Saturday in a 32-7 team victory. He then lost to his Arizona State opponent in the same weight class but the Tar Heels edged the 16th-ranked Sun Devils, 22-16. McCrary also had earlier wins this season against individual opponents from Queens and Oregon State. UNC (4-1), ranked No. 25, faces Central Michigan and Illinois on Sunday afternoon in Champaign. BRYCE KRESHO — Franklin & Marshall College (So., Cass HS) … had a win over his opponent from Hofstra this past Sunday at the Journeyman Collegiate Classic in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Diplomats will be in action this weekend at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial on Saturday in Millersville, Pennsylvania, and Sunday at the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia. TYLER McKNIGHT — Davidson College (Fr., Cass HS) … lost his match at 149-pounds as the Wildcats were blanked by 10th-ranked Iowa State, 50-0. At the Southeast Open on November 4, McKnight placed second in the Freshman/Sophomore division and outscored his opponents 37-5 through the first four rounds to reach the finals. Next for Davidson is the Navy Classic in Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday. JAXON SMITH — University of Maryland (So., Woodland HS) … went 1-1 and placed second in the 197-pound division of the Tiger Style Invitational this past Saturday in Kansas City. In a 30-7 win on November 2 over American University, Smith won his bout by technical fall. Maryland faces 15th-ranked Pittsburgh at home on Monday, November 20. JABRIL WILLIAMS — Midway University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … had three wins in the 165-pound division at the Bob Del Rosa Ohio Open this past weekend in Cleveland to place sixth. On November 4 he was 2-2 at the Pepsi Patriot Open in Williamsburg, Kentucky. Midway wrestles Wednesday at the University of Montevallo and Saturday at Life University.
