Six of the local high school soccer teams were in action Monday night with mixed results. The Adairsville girls and Cass boys earned home shutout wins while the Woodland girls opened their 2023 campaign on the road with a 1-1 draw. WOODLAND GIRLS 1, CEDARTOWN 1 The Lady Cats started their 2023 season Monday night with a 1-1 draw at Cedartown. Brionna Carver scored the Woodland goal off an assist from Karyme Hernandez. Lady Cats’ keeper Abby Duncan recorded five saves. Cedartown is now 1-1-1 on the season. Woodland (0-0-1) hosts Cedartown Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. CEDARTOWN 3, WOODLAND BOYS 0 The Woodland boys lost their regular season opener Monday night at Cedartown, 3-0. The Bulldogs led 1-0 at the intermission and added a pair of insurance goals in the second half to improve to 3-0 on the season. Woodland (0-1) hosts Sonoraville Wednesday at 5:55 p.m. ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 5, MURRAY COUNTY 0 Adairsville’s Lizzie LeMay scored three goals and had one assist Monday night to lead the Lady Tigers in a 5-0 blanking of visiting Murray County. LeMay scored in the 2nd, 49th, and 56th minutes to complete the hat trick. Emma Ridley assisted on two of the goals. Jessica Hogue gave Adairsville a 2-0 lead in the 18th minute and Gabi Becerra gave the Lady Tigers a 3-0 lead at the intermission with a goal in the 21st minute. The loss drops Murray County to 0-3 on the season. Adairsville (3-1) plays at Darlington Friday. MURRAY COUNTY 3, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 0 The Adairsville boys stayed close with visiting Murray County Monday night playing the Indians to a 0-0 first-half draw. Murray County (2-2) took advantage of some Adairsville miscues in the second half, however, to escape with a 3-0 non-region win. “The boys played a great first half,” noted Tigers coach John Terrell. “We made some mistakes in the second half leading to multiple goals off penalty kicks. Our youth continues to show but we made improvements. We’re still dealing with some injuries too. We hope to be at full strength when region play starts.” Adairsville (0-4) plays Friday night at Darlington. CASS BOYS 5, SONORAVILLE 0 Mason Madrid scored a pair of goals Monday night -- both on assists from Alex Hernandez as the Colonels built a 4-0 lead in the first half against visiting Sonoraville (1-2). Kayden Pineda put Cass up 1-0 in the 10th minute off an assist from Camden Hillhouse. Following the two goals by Madrid, Hillhouse put the Colonels up 4-0 with an unassisted net-finder in the 30th minute. After the intermission, Cass created multiple scoring opportunities but failed to finish until Christian Villela scored in the 65th minute. Cass (3-1) hosts Woodstock at Cochran Stadium Thursday night. SONORAVILLE 4, CASS GIRLS 1 The Lady Colonels trailed just 1-0 at the intermission but allowed a trio of second-half goals Monday night to visiting Sonoraville in an eventual 4-1 non-region loss. The Lady Phoenix improved to 2-1 on the season. Senior Anna Marsala scored the only Cass goal in the second half off a penalty shot. The Lady Colonels (1-2) host Woodstock Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

The Cartersville High tennis teams split a pair of matches with visiting Sequoyah Monday evening at Dellinger Park. The Hurricanes collected a 3-2 victory while the Lady Canes lost to Sequoyah 4-1. CARTERSVILLE BOYS 3, SEQUOYAH 2 The Canes won all three singles lines Monday to defeat Sequoyah, 3-2. Brock Wilson was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at Line 1. Walker Cooney won 6-1, 6-4 at Line 2 and Jack Minhinnett won his Line 3 match 6-2, 6-2 to secure the team victory. Sequoyah won both doubles lines in extended matches. Cartersville’s Bryce Summey and Ben Caswell fell 6-2, 5-7, 8-10 on Line 1 while Eli Odell and Jack Johnson lost 7-6, 0-6, 7-10. SEQUOYAH 4, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 1 The Lady Canes’ Chloie Obanion won her Line 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-1 for the only Cartersville victory in a 4-1 team loss Monday to Sequoyah. The Lady Chiefs won the other two singles matches in three sets and took straight sets wins on both doubles lines. Sofia Motuba of Cartersville won her opening set before falling 6-4, 3-6, 3-6 on Line 1. Katie Lewis also won her first set before dropping a 7-5, 5-7, 0-6 decision. Anna Ramsey and Lauren Lawson lost their Line 1 doubles match and the team of Katherine Bowen and Eden Olson lost on Line 2. The Cartersville tennis teams return to action Thursday at Dellinger Park against Adairsville.

This week’s Athletes Beyond Bartow report includes updates on more than three dozen competitors with Bartow County connections in three professional leagues and seven different collegiate sports. Former Cartersville High quarterback Trevor Lawrence made his first-ever NFL Pro Bowl Games appearance while Ashton Hagans (NBA G League) and A.J. Mosby (NBL-Canada) continued their roles with their respective professional basketball teams. The college basketball regular season enters the final few weeks as those teams begin to gear up for tournament play while local wrestling standouts move closer to their post-season tournaments as well. Meanwhile, several spring sports have launched for local athletes in golf, tennis, track & field, baseball, and softball. NFL TREVOR LAWRENCE — Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL, 2nd-yr. pro; Clemson; Cartersville HS … the second-year NFL quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars was selected to his first Pro Bowl Games and got things started last Thursday night putting up a respectable 19 points in the Precision Passing competition. The 23-year-old’s performance was part of a 71-55 win for the AFC. In the flag football competition, Lawrence threw a pick-six on his first drive before redeeming himself with a short TD pass to Davante Adams of the Raiders and a 45-yard touchdown pass late in the game to the Bills’ Stefon Diggs. Those two scoring passes helped the AFC win the second flag football game of the day, 18-13. PRO BASKETBALL ASHTON HAGANS — Greensboro Swarm (NBA G-League; 3rd-year pro; Cartersville native; Kentucky; Newton HS) … scored seven points and had six rebounds and 11 assists Sunday afternoon in a 133-122 home win over the Windy City Bulls. Last Friday in a 123-107 home win over the Grand Rapids Gold, Hagans scored three points with four boards, four assists, and one steal. Greensboro (6-9) will host the Salt Lake City Stars Wednesday night and the Fort Wayne Mad Ants Friday night. A.J. Washington, who is averaging more than 15 points and seven rebounds per game this season, did have a pair of steals in Saturday’s win. Piedmont won 96-37 at Wesleyan last Tuesday and topped visiting Agnes Scott 76-39 this past Saturday. WRESTLING CALEB HENSON — Virginia Tech (Fr., Woodland HS) … 8th-ranked nationally in the 149-pound division, Henson was dominant in his performance over Duke’s Patrick Rowland. Henson was offensive from start to finish with an 18-3 tech fall. The freshman picked up four takedowns, eight back points, and a reversal in an offensive flurry for his 17th win on the season as the Hokies beat the Blue Devils last Friday night, 45-0. Virginia Tech wrestles at North Carolina this Friday night. JORDAN MITCHELL — Life University (R-Jr., Cass HS) … finished the Cumberland (Tennessee) University Open this past Saturday with a 5-1 record and placed third in the 141-pound division. GOLF BUCK BRUMLOW — University of Georgia (So., Cartersville HS) … was not part of the UGA team scoring but placed 22nd as an individual at the Southwestern Invitational on January 30-February 1. The tournament was conducted on the 7,017-yard par-72 Lakes/Oaks Course at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, California. Brumlow, who would have contributed a third-best score for the Bulldogs, fired rounds of 70-79-71 to finish 4-over-par. Georgia finished seventh of the twelve teams in the event that was won by Texas. Pepperdine, Arizona State, Oregon, Washington, and UCLA finished ahead of UGA. SADYE JOHNSON — University of North Georgia (So., Adairsville HS) … entered defensively in the sixth inning last Friday to catch in an 11-0 win over visiting Spring Hill College. The Nighthawks went 2-1 last weekend at the Gulf Shores Invitational with a win over Florida Tech and a loss to West Alabama. UNG will host the Surf ’N Turf Classic Saturday and Sunday in Dahlonega. The Nighthawks will play both King University and Florida Southern twice during the tournament. ERYN LEE — Reinhardt University (Fr., Cass HS) … was 3-for-6 with one walk, one RBI, and one stolen base Sunday as the Eagles split a pair of games with visiting Middle Georgia State. Reinhardt (1-1) travels to LaGrange College Thursday for a doubleheader. RACHAEL LEE — Gulf Coast State CC (Fr., Cass HS) … went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a solo home run, and four runs scored in the Commodores’ doubleheader sweep Saturday over Enterprise State CC. Through her team’s first seven games, Lee is 9-for-21 with three RBIs and eight runs scored. Gulf Coast CC (6-1) has games against Central Alabama CC, Florida Southwestern State CC, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and Gordon State CC this weekend in Dothan, Alabama. LAUREN McELHANEY — University of West Georgia (Jr., Cartersville HS) … saw action at catcher in all five of the Wolves games last weekend as they went 1-4 facing Lander, Florida Tech, Rollins, Spring Hill, and Saint Leo. McElhaney was 0-for-8 at the plate with one walk. West Georgia (1-4) has a doubleheader Saturday at USC-Aiken. HOPE SHORT — Shorter University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … had a pinch-hit single and scored a run in a 7-5 home loss to Young Harris College last Friday. Shorter (0-3) plays this weekend in the UA-Huntsville Charger Chillout. ALEXA VARNER — Shorter University (Jr., Adairsville HS) … was utilized as a pinch runner in two games for the Hawks over this past weekend. Shorter (0-3) travels to Huntsville Friday through Sunday for six games in the Charger Chillout.

The Adairsville boys swimming team made a nice statement at the 2023 Swimming and Diving Championships for Class 1A-3A this past weekend at Georgia Tech. The Tigers finished in a tie for fifth led primarily by juniors and sophomores. That means with a little program growth and development in the off-season, Adairsville has an opportunity to make an even bigger splash at the GHSA State Meet next season. Wesleyan won the Class 1A-3A title with 252 points. Whitefield Academy was next at 235 followed by North Cobb Christian (203) and Providence Christian (193). Adairsville tied with Paideia at 166 points. Athens Academy (162), Oconee County (149), Mt. Paran Christian (114), and Columbus (114) rounded out the top ten team scores. The Tigers collected a pair of third-place finishes to highlight the week. Junior Cooper Brown was third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.33) and the Adairsville 200-yard freestyle relay team of Brown, Andy Barnett, Gabriel Greenway, and Brayden Rizer finished third in 1:32.86. The same four swimmers made up the Tigers’ 200-yard medley relay team that placed fifth in 1:44.31. Like Brown, Barnett is a junior while Greenway and Rizer are both sophomores. Brown was sixth (2:06.98) in the 200-yard individual medley with Barnett placing 9th in the finals in 2:12.83. Rizer was a tenth-place finisher in the 50-yard freestyle while the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Rizer, Greenway, Alex Juarez, and Luke Altizer also placed 10th in 3:38.54. Juarez was the only senior on that relay team. Greenway finished 13th in the 100-yard butterfly (58.57) and Barnett was a finalist in the 100-yard backstroke. "The boys performed very well," Adairsville swim coach Shawn Williams commented. "They continued to improve their times as the day progressed. We don't have access to all the records, but we are pretty confident in saying that this is the best performance of any Bartow team at the state meet. They earned two third-place finishes and were the fastest 1-3A public school in the state." WOODLAND SWIMMERS COMPETE AT GHSA STATE MEET The Woodland boys' swim team was represented this past weekend at the 2023 GHSA Class 4A-5A State Championships at Georgia Tech. The Wildcats finished 34th with 2.50 points earned by Grayson Moore’s finals appearance in the 50-yard freestyle (22.92). The 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Moore, Isaiah Muriel, Drew Thayer, and Ricky Hawkins was 32nd in the preliminaries. Chattahoochee won the Class 4A-5A boys' championship followed by Chamblee, Northview, Pace Academy, and Centennial in the top five.

The Cass wrestling team won the 2023 Region 7-5A Traditional team championship Saturday and will advance eleven individuals to the GHSA state sectionals next Saturday (Feb. 11) at Cambridge High School. The Colonels finished the day with 239 points with Woodland placing second with 218 points. Dalton (144) finished third, Cartersville (108) fourth, Calhoun (106) fifth, and Hiram (48) was sixth. Woodland qualified 13 individuals for the state sectionals while Cartersville had nine state sectional qualifiers. Individuals had to finish in the top four at region to advance. Next Saturday, the top six in each weight division at Cambridge will advance to the State Championship Tournament at the Macon Centreplex February 16-18. Ten of the eleven wrestlers for Cass advanced as Region 7-5A champions. Cass wrestlers Lee Camp (106), Hunter Barrett (113), Caden Alford (120), Jake Crapps (126), Rowdy Duck (132), Tyler McKnight (144), Mason Tompkins (150), Kriecg Roe (157), Zach McKnight (165), and Parker Dunn (190) each won their respective weight divisions. Tanner Toups (138) placed third for the Colonels. Woodland had three weight class champions. Hayden Santora (138), Champ Hidden (215), and Kwadrus Wilson (285) were region winners. Amari Kinnamore (106), Zachary Wallace (144), Heath Tatum (165), Melvin Ramos (175), and Owen Jones (190) were region runners-up. Aiden Buchan (113), Paul Lanier (126), Tristen Clapp (132), and Jovante Luke (157) had third place finishes for Woodland and Nathan Cates (120) advanced with a fourth place finish for the Wildcats. Cartersville had a pair of second placers in Eaiden Neal (126) and Talan Nix (138). Grant Adams (120), Montgomery Tompkins (144), Jonathon Neal Radford (175), Giancarlo Rivadeneyra (190), and Delroy Hurst (285) each advanced to sectionals with third place finishes while Julian Cline (106), and Jackson Latimer (150) finished fourth for the Purple Hurricanes. The top four from Region 7-5A will be bracketed with the top four placers from Regions 1, 3, and 6 next Saturday at Cambridge. Regions 2, 4, 5, and 8 of Class 5A will be in action Saturday at Locust Grove High School.

The Cartersville Lady Canes and Hurricanes both earned Region 7-5A wins Friday night at Woodland while the teams from Adairsville and Cass lost region games on the road. Cartersville led 11-8 after one quarter and 22-14 at halftime before surging in the second half for a 32-point win. Ansley Griffin scored 12 points to lead Cartersville. Taff Bradley and Jakayah Draughn followed with 10 points each while Senai Camper added seven points in the Lady Canes’ win. Megan Schultz scored 12 points for Woodland. DALTON 62, CASS GIRLS 33 The Lady Colonels fell behind 11-0 early and never recovered in a 62-33 loss Friday night at Dalton. Cass trailed 25-16 at halftime and 38-25 by the end of the third quarter. Dalton shot 39 free throws in the contest while Cass shot only eight free throws. Grace Ridley and Emma Hefner paced the Lady Catamounts with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Ridley also added 12 steals and 10 rebounds in a triple-double performance. Mikaela Jackson led Cass with nine points. Sadie Paez and Darianna Sosa finished with six points each. Nevaeh Woods contributed five points. Kiana McDaniel chipped in with four and Kaitlyn Godwin added three points for the Lady Colonels in the loss. Dalton improved to 17-6 overall and 5-3 in Region 7-5A. Cass (13-9, 1-7) hosts Hiram Tuesday night at 6 p.m. DALTON 58, CASS BOYS 54 The Cass boys slipped to third place in Region 7-5A Friday night with a narrow 58-54 loss at Dalton. The Colonels led 14-10 after one quarter, but fell behind in the second quarter and did not recover. Dalton outscored Cass 20-8 in the second period to lead 30-22 at the intermission. The host Catamounts added to their advantage in the third quarter to lead 48-34 heading to the final eight minutes. The Colonels outscored the Catamounts 20-10 in the final period but came up four points short. “We dropped a heart-breaker at Dalton,” said Cass head coach Kevin Cunningham. “Dalton played well, but It’s tough to overcome our free throw shooting when we were just 6-for-15 at the line. We have to get back to work to try and lock down a top-three seed for the region tournament.” Dalton (15-7, 4-4) was led in scoring by Chaz Ramsey with 27 points. Jelani Hames scored 14 points to lead Cass. Devin Henderson finished with 11. Jakai Baldwin contributed eight points. KJ Rogers scored seven. Sacovie White tossed in six points while Jayden Foster and Jashaun Whatley added four points apiece. Cass (11-11, 5-3) hosts 3rd-ranked Hiram Tuesday night. LAKEVIEW-FORT OGLETHORPE 72, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 66 In a head-to-head battle for the Region 6-AAA top seed in the upcoming region tournament, the host Warriors held on to defeat Adairsville Friday night 72-66. LFO, led by Brent Bowman and Antari Burnett with 29 and 23 points, respectively, improved to 15-9 on the season and 12-1 in region play. Tre Winters led Adairsville with 30 points. Tay Jackson followed with 13. Zach Postell scored 11. Xavious Nalls contributed seven points. Zach Weaver chipped in with three points and Ben Abernathy added two for the Tigers. Adairsville (16-8, 11-2) hosts Bremen Tuesday night in their regular-season finale at 7:30 p.m. LAKEVIEW-FORT OGLETHORPE 67, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 42 The LFO girls led 38-17 by halftime and went on the defeat visiting Adairsville Friday night, 67-42. Angel Simmons and Christina Collins paced the host Warriors with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Analee Morris scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Darby Adams added eight points for Adairsville. Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe improved to 22-1 on the season and 13-0 in Region 6-AAA. Adairsville (12-11, 7-6) wraps up regular season play Tuesday night at home against Bremen at 6 p.m.

The Adairsville Tigers’ wrestling team had a dozen competitors to advance to the GHSA State Sectionals Saturday at Upson Lee High School. The Area 5-AAA Traditional tournament was hosted Saturday by Bremen High School. Only five teams sent competitors to the Area Tournament. Bremen won the Area team title with 204 points. Adairsville was second at 142. Sandy Creek placed third with 60 points and Douglass-Atlanta was fourth with 55. The Tigers were led by three wrestlers that won their respective weight division brackets. Jacob Pasley (144-pounds), Jaimon Long (190), and Seth Sellers (215) each won their weight class. Pasley, who received a bye to his weight division’s finals, defeated Bremen’s Logan Johnson 16-4 to win his bracket. Sellers also had a bye to his division’s championship bout where he won by pin in the second period. Long had a pair of pins — defeating opponents from Douglass and Bremen — to claim his division’s title. Sam Bailey (106), Madden Boyce (113), Ethan Bruce (126), Victor Singer (132), Jamori Speights (138), Kolt McCord (175), and Jett Johnson (285) each finished second in their divisions. Also advancing for Adairsville were Brett Lance (150) and Tommy Faulk (165) who placed third and fourth, respectively. The qualifying Adairsville wrestlers advance to the Class 3A A Sectional tournament Saturday at Upson Lee High School. The top six placers at the Sectional will advance to the GHSA State Finals February 16-18 at the Macon Centreplex.

Anna Dudley of Adairsville and Anetra Witherspoon of Cartersville have both advanced to the GHSA State wrestling tournament by placing third in their respective weight classes at the Girls Area 7 tournament Friday at Alexander High School. Dudley lost her first round bout in the 155-pound division to North Murray’s Erica Bautista in a 2-1 decision, but battled back through the consolation bracket with four straight wins to finish third. Adairsville teammate Reese Leighly (130) was 0-2 in her bouts Friday falling to her opponent from Ringgold in the third place match. Cartersville’s Witherspoon won her quarterfinal bout 6-2 but lost to Taylor Schiesser of Gilmer County in the semifinals. From there, Witherspoon had back-to-back wins in the consolation bracket to finish third. Each of the local competitors advance to the GHSA State Sectionals Friday at Upson Lee High School.

The Cartersville soccer teams swept visiting Cherokee Friday night while Adairsville split games with visiting Sonoraville. The Cass teams both suffered home losses Friday to Villa Rica. CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 2, CHEROKEE 1 Cartersville’s Mallory Nicklas gave the Lady Canes an early lead Friday night when she scored from just above the eighteen-yard box. The goal came off an assist from Jasmine Eckert in the 12th minute. The Lady Canes’ took a 2-0 first half lead off a corner kick from Nicklas that was tapped in by Hattie Beth Williams. Cartersville carried that advantage into the intermission. Midway through the second half, Cherokee cut the Cartersville lead to 2-1 off a corner of their own. Cartersville held on down the stretch, however, for a 2-1 win. The Lady Canes (2-0) host Villa Rica Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. CARTERSVILLE BOYS 1, CHEROKEE 0 The Canes soccer team earned its first win of the year Friday night with a 1-0 victory over visiting Cherokee. Melvin Velasquez converted on a penalty kick in the 10th minute of the match. Collier Parker had several key saves in the contest to maintain a clean sheet. The loss dropped the visiting Warriors to 0-1 on the season. Cartersville (1-1-1) hosts Villa Rica Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 2, SONORAVILLE 1 The Lady Tigers earned their second win of the season Friday night with a 2-1 defeat of visiting Sonoraville. Lizzie LeMay scored in the opening minute to give Adairsville a 1-0 lead. The goal came off four clean passes from Victoria Loudon to Maddie Gossett to Gabbie Becerra who was credited with the first of her two assists. Sonoraville tied the game prior to the intermission, but the Lady Tigers scored the deciding goal in the 52nd minute. Elle Causby scored the clincher off another assist from Becerra. Freshman keeper Bethany Kilgore made several key stops in the victory while the coaching staff credited Greer Cofield’s defense and the play of Jordyn Hartline. The Adairsville girls (2-1) host Murray County Monday evening. SONORAVILLE 7, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 0 The Tigers stayed competitive with visiting Sonoraville in the opening 20 minutes according to coach John Terrell. “We stayed competitive in the opening 20 minutes, but some mental mistakes and our inexperience began to show after that,” said Terrell. “We’re still learning and still dealing with the injury bug. Hopefully, it helps us build some depth for later in the season.” The Phoenix improved to 1-1. Adairsville (0-3) hosts Murray County Monday evening. VILLA RICA 10, CASS GIRLS 0 The Cass girls dropped a 10-0 decision to visiting Villa Rica Friday night to even their season record at 1-1. The Lady Colonels won their season opener Tuesday over Pickens, 7-2. The Excel Christian Academy boys’ basketball team finished off a perfect regular season run through GAPPS I-AA Region 1 Thursday night with a 94-64 win over visiting Unity Christian School of Rome. The Eagles -- winners of ten straight -- broke open a close game in the third quarter by outscoring the Lions 27-15 in the period. Excel led 21-19 after one quarter and 39-30 at halftime before pulling ahead 66-45 by the end of the third quarter on their way to a 30-point win. Jakaden Barkley scored a game-high 26 points to pace Excel. Kyron McClendon posted 22 points. Jacob Taylor finished with 20. Comari Nettles contributed 11 points. KP Profit had seven. Kohl Williams chipped in three points and Kingston Eleazer added two for the Eagles. Andre Sawyer led Unity with 18 points. Jay Davis scored 13. Johnny Whitley totaled 12 points and Jordan Wilkerson added 10 for the Lions (8-15, 4-6) Excel Christian (16-8, 10-0) heads to its region tournament as the No. 1-seed and will receive a bye to the region semifinals. The Eagles will play next Tuesday night against the first round winner of a Monday game that will include two of the following: Lyndon Academy, Praise Academy, or Unity Christian School. Tuesday night’s semifinal will be at 7:30 p.m. at Unity. The region finals and third place games will be next Thursday, also at Unity Christian School.

RELEASE FROM THE JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS: Quarterback Trevor Lawrence was named to the 2023 Pro Bowl Games and is replacing Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, the NFL announced Tuesday. Lawrence will join WR Jamal Agnew at the Pro Bowl Games and is the 32nd Pro Bowler in franchise history. He is the third quarterback in team history to earn Pro Bowl honors, joining QBs Mark Brunell (1996, 1997, 1999) and David Garrard (2009). In the 2022 regular season, Lawrence completed 387 of 584 passes for 4,113 yards and 25 TDs. His 387 completions were the most in a single season in franchise history and his five rushing TDs were tied with Garrard for the most in single-season franchise history. Lawrence joined Bengals QB Joe Burrow and Bills QB, Josh Allen, as the only players in the NFL with 25-plus passing TDs and at least five rushing TDs. Against the Titans in Week 14, Lawrence set a career-high with 368 yards passing and was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance. The second-year quarterback totaled four 300-yard passing games and orchestrated three comebacks of 17-plus points, including a comeback from behind 27-0 in the postseason against the Chargers. In two postseason contests, Lawrence completed 52 of 86 passes for 505 yards and five TDs. He threw for four TDs against the Chargers, becoming the youngest player in NFL history to throw for four or more touchdowns in a playoff game. The 2023 Pro Bowl games will take place in Las Vegas beginning on Thursday, February 2 with the Pro Bowl players competing in skills challenges. The Pro Bowl Games competition culminates with a seven versus seven NFC action-packed Flag football game at Allegiant Stadium.

The Adairsville girls and boys soccer teams lost non-region games Wednesday night at Cedartown. The Lady Tigers dropped a 3-1 decision while the Tigers fell 10-2. CEDARTOWN 3, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 1 The Lady Tigers trailed 1-0 at halftime Wednesday night at Cedartown and could not make up that ground in the second half in an eventual 3-1 loss. Adairsville’s second-half goal came in the 53rd minute when Lizzie LeMay found the net off an assist from Maddie Gossett. In a game that was dictated by which team could control the middle of the field, Lady Tigers’ head coach Dave Sexauer credited the play of Elle Causby. “She was always in the right spot to stop counter-attacks and redistribute the ball,” noted Sexauer. “Jordyn Hartline placed some nice corner kicks and had some good touches. Our keeper, Annie McCormick, made some crucial stops, and Piper Tordrup and Victoria Loudon had nice games.” Cedartown improved to 1-1 with the win. Adairsville (1-1) hosts Sonoraville Friday at 5 p.m. CEDARTOWN 10, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 2 Cedartown scored six times in the first half and pulled away from an injury-riddled, visiting Adairsville club Wednesday night in a 10-2 non-region win for the Bulldogs. “We’re currently bitten by the injury bug,” said Tigers’ coach John Terrell. “We have ten kids out with some type of problem right now. We are hoping games like tonight will allow us to build some depth. We rotated 20 players tonight. With over 95 percent of the team returning next year, every varsity minute will help us in the future. We hope to get some of our guys back for Friday’s game.” The Adairsville goals were scored by J Gramajo and John Mark Shepard. The Tigers (0-2) will host Sonoraville Friday at 7 p.m.
