The Adairsville Tigers trailed visiting Sonoraville for most of the game Friday night before rallying in the fourth quarter to earn a 54-52 win over the Phoenix. Sonoraville held leads of 17-10, 27-21, and 39-35 at the end of the first three quarters but the Tigers outscored the Phoenix 19-13 over the final eight minutes to collect a two-point, non-region win. “They jumped out to an early lead,” said Adairsville head coach Alex Disbrow, “but we were able to claw back with defensive stops and some timely shooting. Our team defense was excellent after the first quarter.” Tre Winters led Adairsville with 29 points. Tay Jackson and Ben Abernathy scored six each. Zach Postell and Xavious Nalls added five each for the Tigers. Jordyn Storey led Sonoraville with 20 points. Elijah Woods added 11 for the Phoenix. It was the first loss of the season for Sonoraville (8-1). Adairsville (6-2) returns to action Monday at Wesleyan High School in the Spalding Drive Classic. The Tigers will face Stephenson in the first round of the three-day tournament at 4 p.m. SONORAVILLE 51, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 45 The Lady Phoenix led 27-16 at halftime after outscoring the Lady Tigers 18-4 in the second quarter and then held on in the second half for a six-point win at Adairsville Friday night. Analee Morris made five three-pointers and scored 28 points to lead the Adairsville scoring. Zariyah Hicks finished with six points. NaXyria Roberts, Aliya McBryde, and Alissa Winters chipped in with three points each. Megan Gregory added two for the Lady Tigers. Sonoraville, who is now a member of Region 7-AAAA, improved to 8-1. Sonoraville was led by Brynley Walraven's 17 points. The Lady Tigers slipped to 7-2 on the season. The Woodland boys snapped a six-game skid Friday night by defeating host Armuchee 58-55 in the preliminary round of the Rome Holiday Tournament. Woodland (2-7) advances to play Darlington Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the next round. The game will be back at Armuchee High School. The Cass Lady Colonels defeated Class A D-II 7th-ranked Mt. Zion-Carroll 66-38 Friday night at Central-Carroll High School in the semifinal round of the Carrollton SMI Christmas Tournament. Following a close first quarter, Cass broke away in the second period by outscoring the Lady Eagles 22-4 to take a 35-14 lead to the locker room at halftime. The Lady Colonels cruised in the second for a 28-point win. Olivia Woods led Cass in scoring with 17 points. She added five steals. Mikaela Jackson followed with 15 points for the Lady Colonels. Nevaeh Woods contributed 11 points, eight boards, and six assists. Rounding out the Cass effort were Darianna Sosa with six points. Kaitlyn Godwin had five points and seven rebounds. KK Evans scored four points. Kiana McDaniel finished with four points, five rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Sadie Paez and Reese Howard added two points apiece. The loss drops Mt. The Canes led 29-24 at halftime and 50-36 through three quarters. Chandler Mathison and Jaylen Scott led the Hurricanes in scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Cass Lady Colonels defeated East Paulding 53-34 Thursday night in the opening round of the Carrollton SMI Christmas Tournament at Central-Carroll High School but the Cartersville boys dropped a 79-71 decision to East Paulding in their first-round matchup. CASS GIRLS 53, EAST PAULDING 34 Despite scoring only two points in the second quarter Thursday evening, the Cass Lady Colonels defeated East Paulding in the opening round of the Carrollton SMI Christmas Tournament at Central-Carroll High School. The Cass girls led 15-6 at the end of the first period but trailed 19-17 at halftime. Cass regained the lead for good in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Raiders 16-10 on their way to a 19-point win. Kiana McDaniel scored 13 points, collected 10 rebounds, and made eight steals to lead the Lady Colonels. Olivia Woods followed with 12 points. The Adairsville Tigers' wrestling team swept a pair of duals Wednesday night at Model High School defeating Darlington 67-12 and Model 46-33. Three Tigers finished the night with a pair of wins each: Madden Boyce (113), Druu Faulk (165), and Jett Johnson (285) were all 2-0. Adairsville wrestling returns to action Friday and Saturday at Coahulla Creek's tournament.

Both Adairsville High basketball teams defeated visiting Coahuila Creek Tuesday night with the Lady Tigers winning 58-47 and the Tigers earning a 56-38 win. ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 58, COAHULLA CREEK 47 Analee Morris, Naxyria Roberts, and Aliya McBryde reached double figures in scoring Tuesday night with 19, 11, and 10 points, respectively, as the Lady Tigers improved to 3-1 in Region 6-AAA games. The Lady Tigers and Lady Colts were tied 25-25 at halftime. Adairsville led 39-36 at the end of the third quarter and extended that lead in the fourth quarter for an 11-point victory. The Cass girls and boys basketball teams earned non-region, road victories Tuesday night at Southeast Whitfield. The Lady Colonels won 55-25 while the Colonels topped the Raiders 73-64. The Colonels narrowed the margin to 43-40 heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring Southeast 33-21 in the fourth quarter for a nine-point win. The Adairsville High wrestling teams finished 2-3 last Saturday at the Lassiter Duals in Cobb County. The Tigers defeated Woodstock 48-26 and Mountain View 54-30 for their two victories. Adairsville suffered losses to Hillgrove (42-21), North Paulding (51-24), and Archer (48-35). NFL TREVOR LAWRENCE — Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL, 2nd-yr. pro; Clemson; Cartersville HS) … was 30-for-42 passing for 368 yards and three touchdowns as Jacksonville won at the Tennessee Titans Sunday, 36-22. He also rushed three times for seven yards and one touchdown. His touchdown passes included a 12-yarder to Evan Engram in the first quarter and a 21-yarder to Engram in the third quarter. SOCCER RUSSELL SHEALY — Syracuse University (R-Sr., Cartersville resident; Darlington HS) … earned his 17th win of the season as a goalkeeper and recorded six saves as Syracuse defeated Creighton this past Friday night in the national semifinals of the 2022 NCAA College Cup. Shealy had four first half saves as the Orange held a 1-0 lead at halftime. He added another save in the opening minute of the second half before the Bluejays tied the match 1-1 in the 49th minute. Syracuse went back ahead 2-1 just two minutes later and Shealy’s save in the 61st minute kept the Orange ahead. Creighton found the net in the 63rd minute to tie the game again but Syracuse took the lead for good in the 85th minute. Shealy, who has 10 shutouts and a .812 save percentage on the year, had no additional saves in the final ten minutes but faced three more corner kicks down the stretch. The Orange (18-2-4) will face Indiana (14-4-6) for the national championship Monday night back in Cary, North Carolina.
