Adairsville girls, Woodland boys win cross-county hoops match-ups Saturday

Adairsville and Woodland split their basketball doubleheader Saturday evening at Adairsville High School with the Lady Tigers winning 65-38 and the Wildcats winning the boys’ game, 52-49.

Josie Summerville led the Adairsville girls to their season-opening win with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and nine steals.

Adairsville took an 11-point lead in the opening period and expanded their halftime lead to 31-19. The Lady Tigers led 49-26 after three quarters.

“I am so proud of our girls tonight on a goodwin against a scrappy, well-coached Woodland team,” said Adairsville head coach Lee Whitaker. “Emily (Collum) was so tenacious defensively and got our team out on the break. Josie (Summerville) controlled the paint and ran the floor, and Zay Harris did a great job in transition finding her teammates.”

Nakiyah Washington scored 12 points and collecgted seven rebounds for Adairsville. Collum made 11 steals and scored eight points.

The Woodland boys rallied in the fourth quarter for a come-from-behind 52-49 win Saturday at Adairsville.

The Wildcats led 14-4 after one period, but Adairsville cut the lead to 26-24 at the intermission.

The Tigers took a 43-36 lead into the fourth period, but Woodland outscored Adairsville 16-6 in the final quarter for a three-point win.

Woodland’s Trevor Knowles scored seven of his 11 points in the fourth quarter. He converted a pair of key free throws and nailed a three-point field goal late in the game.

Justice Carter and Justice Hayes led Woodland with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Camden Royal scored eight. Jaylen Ballard added four points and Hunter Johnson chipped in with two.

Hunter Hice and Ronald Hardin led Adairsville with 10 points each.

Adairsville plays at Excel Christian Academy Tuesday with the girls’ game beginning at 6pm. Woodland hosts Cedartown November 29.
