The series will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday. On Friday, the Chargers led 3-1 in the middle of the third inning, but the Bobcats posted 10 runs over the next five frames to seal their win, outhitting GHC fifteen to three in the game. The Chargers utilized six pitchers in the loss, including starter Kaiden Krak (2.1 IP, 1ER, 5H, 2K) and relievers Jowsell Seda (1.1 IP, 3ER, 2H, 2BB, 1K), Ian Mihalopolous (1 IP, 3ER, 1H, 3BB, 1K), Calvin Koo (0.2 IP, 0R, 3H, 1K), Nick Kane (1.2 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1BB, 2K), and Ty Jones (1 IP, 2R, 2H, 1BB). WOODLAND BOYS 1, BREMEN 0 The Wildcats finished their season in style Thursday night and evened their season record at 8-8 with a 1-0 win over the visiting Bremen Blue Devils. Following a scoreless first half, Woodland’s Hunter Limbaugh scored on a penalty kick in the game’s 55th minute. Wildcats’ goalkeeper Seth Goodall made one save to preserve his clean sheet. Bremen finished the season with a 5-10 record. BREMEN 1, WOODLAND GIRLS 0 The Woodland girls' soccer team lost its final regular-season game on Thursday night to visiting Bremen, 1-0. The Lady Blue Devils improved to 9-8. Woodland dropped to 8-8 and will open the state playoffs next Thursday with a first-round match at Maynard Jackson High School in Atlanta. NORTH PAULDING 6, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 1 The visiting Lady Wolfpack pounced to a 4-0 first-half lead and closed out a 6-1 non-region win at Cartersville Thursday night over the Lady Canes. Ali Evans scored the Cartersville goal in the second half, finishing a well-placed assist from senior Mallory Nicklas.  North Paulding improved to 10-4 on the season. The Lady Canes (10-7) will host Pace Academy on Thursday in the first round of the Class AAAA state playoffs. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. NORTH PAULDING 3, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 3 (Wolfpack wins on PKs) The Canes and Wolfpack battled to a 3-3 draw in regulation before North Paulding collected a 4-3 win in a penalty shootout. The Wolfpack evened their season record at 9-9. Cartersville slipped to 10-7 and will begin the Class AAAA state playoffs next Friday with a first-round matchup at Drew High School in Atlanta. CHEROKEE 4, CASS BOYS 1 The Colonels stayed even with the Warriors through the first half, but the Warriors exploded for three goals in the second half Thursday night to defeat Cass 4-1 in Canton. Cherokee improved to 5-11-1 on the season. Cass finished the year with an 8-8 record. CHEROKEE 10, CASS GIRLS 0 The Cass girls’ soccer team lost 10-0 at Class 6A Cherokee Thursday evening and finished their 2026 campaign with a 5-11 record. Cherokee built a 4-0 lead in the first half and cruised to six more scores in the second half to close out the contest.  Cherokee, the Region 5-6A runner-up, heads into next week’s state playoffs with a 14-2 mark.

  • Branton runner-up at GSGA Senior Match Play Championship

    April 16, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com Cartersville Country Club member Chad Branton made it to the finals of the 2026 Georgia State Golf Association Senior Match Play Championship, but fell to champion Billy Mitchell 1-up. The 15th Senior Match Play Championship for players 55 and older was conducted at Echelon Golf Club in Alpharetta. The field of 60 players competed on the 6454-yard, par-72 layout. Branton qualified for the 16-man championship bracket by carding even-par rounds of 72-72 in the stroke play portion on Monday and Tuesday. He was seeded seventh in the match play portion. In Wednesday’s Round of 16, he closed out Michael Standard on the sixteenth hole to win 3&2. In the quarterfinals, he took a 3-up lead over Jack Larkin, Sr., through ten holes and then held on for another 3&2 victory.  In Thursday morning’s semifinals, Branton defeated Jack Hall by taking a 4-up lead through 12 holes, and his opponent resigned.  In the championship match, Mitchell built a 3-up lead through the first five holes, but Branton won three of the next five holes to tie the match on the eleventh hole. The back-and-forth match continued over the next six holes with Mitchell winning holes 12, 15, and 16. Branton stayed all square with wins on holes 13, 14, and 17.  Mitchell made par on the final hole to secure the title after Branton blocked his tee shot on No. 18 to the right and failed to make par.

The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes finished their Region 7-AAAA schedule without a loss on Thursday night by sweeping a doubleheader at Dalton. Meanwhile, Adairsville lost a second consecutive game to Northwest Whitfield, and Woodland was defeated in two games by Allatoona. CARTERSVILLE 20, DALTON 5 CARTERSVILLE 18, DALTON 4 The Purple Hurricanes completed a perfect 21-0 run through Region 7-AAAA on Thursday by winning both games of a doubleheader at Dalton, 20-5 and 18-4. Nolan Elrod collected the Canes’ pitching win in the opener. He struck out seven and allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk. Brayden Logan (1 IP, 3ER, 3H, 3BB, 2K) and Wyatt Earwood (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 2K) each worked one inning in Game 1. In the nightcap, Logan Buchanan (4 IP, 4ER, 5H, 3BB, 5K) earned the pitching victory. Cole Crawford (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 2K) closed out the fifth inning. The Canes totaled two dozen hits in the doubleheader, including a four-hit night for Harris Turner and three hits by Nolan Elrod. Turner’s night included two home runs, two doubles, and eight RBI. Elrod also hit two homers, one double, and finished with four RBI. Cooper Reynolds (two home runs, six RBI), Crawford (home run, double, three RBI), David Vargas (double, two RBI), Logan (double, two RBI), Tyler Hickman (two doubles, one RBI), and Clint Hosea (RBI) each contributed two hits. NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 12, ADAIRSVILLE 9 The visiting Bruins built a 12-2 lead through 5-½ innings Thursday night at Adairsville and held on to defeat the Tigers 12-9. The win by Northwest Whitfield tied Adairsville for third place in the Region 7-AAA standings going into Friday’s final regular-season game in Tunnel Hill. Class AAA uses the GHSA Postseason rankings for playoff seeding. The final positions will be calculated this weekend. Adairsville was No. 11, and Northwest Whitfield was No. 22 entering Thursday night’s game. Adairsville rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday, but got no closer. Both teams managed to accumulate 12 hits, while each team also committed six errors. The Tigers used five pitchers in the loss including starter Hudson Parr (4.2 IP, 3ER, 7H, 3BB, 4K), Tyler Parker (0.1 IP, 3R, 2ER), Evan Hardin (0.0 IP, 4ER, 1H, 2BB), Bryson Weaver (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1K), and Harrison Cole (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 3K). In the first game on Thursday, Allatoona scored all thirteen of its runs in the first two innings, and pitcher Tommy McAuley limited the Wildcats to two, unearned runs on five hits and one walk. In the second game, the Buccaneers led 7-5 through the first three innings before putting the game away with an 11-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning. Preston Sorrells had three hits for Woodland in the doubleheader, including one double and one RBI. Jacob Tatum (two RBI), Jonathan Ryan (RBI), and Sammy Ray had two hits on the night. Tommy Risner and Alfredo Romo contributed one hit. Logan Smith added one RBI. Blake Forstie (1 IP, 7R, 6ER, 3H, 3BB, 1K) started Thursday’s opener on the mound. Clayton Wilkes (3.2 IP, 12R, 10ER, 7H, 3BB) was the Wildcats’ starter in Game 2.   • Lady Tigers dominate North Murray, finish undefeated on the road

    April 16, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Adairsville Lady Tigers soccer team closed out the regular season in dominant fashion Wednesday night, blanking the North Murray Lady Mountaineers 8-0. Adairsville exploded out of the gate, scoring three goals in the first six minutes. Alivia Joslin opened the scoring in the 3rd minute off an assist from Ella Edwards. Edwards added a goal of her own just two minutes later, set up by Joslin. Alexa Damer made it 3-0 in the 6th minute by converting a penalty kick. Annabella King capped the first-half scoring in the 39th minute on an assist from Samantha Gough, sending the Lady Tigers into halftime with a 4-0 lead. The onslaught continued after the break. Edwards scored again in the 42nd minute on a feed from Damer, and Joslin added her second goal of the night in the 43rd minute off a pass from Gough. Zonya Gomez-Perez pushed the lead to 7-0 in the 63rd minute with an assist from Caelynn Disbrow. Annabella King finished the scoring in the 70th minute on a helper from Gomez-Perez. The victory was highlighted by Damer breaking the all-time career assist record. Damer recorded her 41st career assist, surpassing the previous mark of 40 held by Haley Pittman. Adairsville head coach Dave Sexauer praised the strong all-around play of Gomez-Perez and Carly Adams for their pressure on the ball, precise passing, and connection throughout the field. He also highlighted Gough’s excellent communication. The Lady Tigers completed the regular season with a perfect road record and improved to 15-2 overall. Ranked No. 4 in Class AAA, Adairsville will host a first-round state playoff match next Thursday. Their opponent will be determined this weekend. North Murray fell to 3-13 with the loss. TIGERS TOPPED BY MOUNTAINEERS The Adairsville Tigers were defeated by the North Murray Mountaineers on Wednesday night, falling 10-2 in a boys’ high school soccer match. North Murray jumped out to a 6-0 lead by halftime and continued their offensive onslaught in the second half. Adairsville showed fight late, scoring twice in quick succession. Angel Hernandez got the Tigers on the board in the 75th minute with an assist from Greg Munoz. One minute later, Moonan Poch converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute to make the final score 10-2. The Tigers dropped to 2-15 on the season. Adairsville will play its final game of 2026 on Thursday night, traveling to Paulding County for an 8 p.m. kickoff.

  • Woodland soccer teams sweep Raiders

    April 16, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Woodland Wildcats got off to a lightning-fast start and never looked back, shutting out the East Paulding Raiders 3-0 in a boys' high school soccer match. Robin Evrard scored in the first minute off an assist from Aiden Carrillo to give Woodland an immediate 1-0 lead. Just 10 minutes later, Hunter Limbaugh drilled a free kick from the 40-yard line into the net, extending the advantage to 2-0 by the 11th minute. The Wildcats took that two-goal cushion into halftime. Evrard added his second goal of the match in the 63rd minute, this time set up by Danny Chavez, to cap the scoring at 3-0. Woodland goalkeeper Seth Goodall needed just one save to preserve the clean sheet. The loss dropped the Raiders to 6-12 on the season. The victory improved the Wildcats’ record to 7-8. Woodland will return home to host Bremen on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. LADY CATS WIN AT EAST PAULDING The Woodland girls’ soccer team improved to 8-7 on the season on Wednesday night with a 5-1 victory at East Paulding. The win by the Lady Cats was their fifth straight heading into the Class AAAA state playoffs next week.  The Lady Raiders dropped to 8-8 with the loss. Woodland will host Bremen in a final regular-season tune-up game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

  • Lady Colonels celebrate Senior Night with win over Pebblebrook

    April 15, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Cass Lady Colonels celebrated their 2026 seniors on Tuesday night with a 2-1 home victory over the Pebblebrook Falcons.  Vanessa Garcia scored off an assist from Nat Hughes in the 33rd minute to give Cass a 1-0 advantage at halftime. The Colonels made it 2-0 in the second half when Ryland Piatt’s individual effort found the net in the game’s 74th minute. Pebblebrook scored a goal in the final minute, but the Lady Colonels held on for the win. The Falcons dropped to 3-12 on the season. Cass (5-10) wraps up the 2026 campaign on Thursday at Class 6A Cherokee. FALCONS TOP COLONELS The Pebblebrook Falcons led 5-1 at halftime on Tuesday and defeated the Cass Colonels by a 7-2 final score. Pebblebrook improved to 13-4 heading into the Class 6A state playoffs.   • Rivalry renewed: Lady Tigers defeat Lady Canes, Cartersville boys win at Adairsville

    April 14, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Adairsville Lady Tigers defeated the visiting Cartersville Lady Canes 3-2 Tuesday evening at Adairsville High School, renewing a dormant girls' soccer rivalry after a 10-year hiatus. Cartersville controlled much of the early action, but Adairsville gradually settled into the match and struck first in the 22nd minute when Alexa Damer finished an assist from Addi Jerauld. Just five minutes later, Braylynn Martin extended the lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute off a feed from Alivia Joslin. The Lady Tigers carried that 2-0 advantage into halftime. Adairsville came out strong after the break, with Joslin pushing the score to 3-0 in the 45th minute on an assist from Martin. Cartersville responded with a pair of second-half goals but could not complete the comeback. Ali Evans scored in the 55th minute, assisted by Mallory Nicklas, and Scout Hullander added the second goal in the 75th minute, also set up by Nicklas. The loss dropped Cartersville to 10-6 on the season. The Lady Canes will wrap up the regular season with a final tuneup when they host North Paulding on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Adairsville improved to 14-2 and will play at North Murray on Wednesday in its final match before the state playoffs. CANES BLANK TIGERS The Cartersville Hurricanes exploded for nine goals as they cruised to a 9-0 victory over the host Adairsville Tigers on Tuesday night at Adairsville High School. Cartersville got on the board early and never looked back, building a 3-0 halftime lead before adding six more goals in the second half. Colby Craig scored in the 24th minute, Ishmael Flores in the 34th minute, and Rhett Jacobs in the 38th minute. Brayden Alonso assisted on all three goals. The Hurricanes kept the pressure on after halftime, with Filberto Duarte and Pepe Rangel both scoring in the 46th minute to make it 5-0. Joy Toure added a goal in the 55th minute, assisted by Abraham Grande, and Isaac Ocaranzo scored in the 57th minute, also assisted by Grande. Duarte notched his second goal of the night unassisted in the 62nd minute, and Ashton Ortiz capped the scoring in the 77th minute on an assist from Giovanni Pineda. The loss dropped Adairsville to 2-14 on the season. The Tigers return to action with road games at North Murray on Wednesday and at Paulding County on Thursday. CARTERSVILLE 14, DALTON 4 The Hurricanes posted eleven runs in the first three innings Tuesday evening and cruised to defeat visiting Dalton 14-4 in six innings. Nate Russell (4 IP, 4R, 2ER, 4H, 3BB, 7K) collected the pitching victory. J.B. Nichols (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 4K) worked scoreless fifth and sixth innings on the mound. Cooper Reynolds led the Canes offense with five hits, including two triples and three RBI. David Vargas followed with four hits, including one triple, one double, and three RBI. The Chargers and Bobcats traded blows for the entire nine innings, but it was Georgia Highlands that walked off with the victory following second baseman Carson Page’s RBI single in the bottom of the final frame. East Georgia State led 7-5 in the middle of the seventh inning, but GHC tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and kept the Bobcats off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Jack Burns (2 I, 0R, 2H, 2K) picked up the pitching win by working two scoreless innings at the end of the game. David McKechnie (5 IP, 3ER, 7H, 2BB, 4K) made a five-inning start. Reed Thursby (0.2 IP, 3R, 2ER, 2H, 1BB), Heath Whitlock (1 IP, 1ER, 3H, 2K), and Jackson Scali (0.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1K) also pitched in middle relief. Caden Marcos led the Chargers’ bats with three hits, including two home runs and three RBI. Wyatt Gatlin (RBI) and Andrew Bishop (double) had two hits. Kenton Collier (RBI), Mason Moore (RBI), and Carson Page (RBI) contributed one hit. Ian Fullerton drove home one run with a sacrifice fly. Georgia Highlands (37-9, 17-2 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association) will play three games on Friday and Saturday at East Georgia State in Swainsboro. GHC softball splits a doubleheader at Snead State CC Georgia Highlands College softball split a doubleheader on Tuesday at Snead State Community College in Boaz, Alabama. The host Parsons won the opener in eight innings, 3-2, but the Chargers blanked Snead State in the second game, 4-0. Emily Ferro (8 IP, 3R, 2ER, 6H, 1BB, 3K) suffered the pitching loss in the first game. Haley Curtis (7 IP, 0R, 3H, 1BB, 3K) tossed a complete-game shutout in Game 2.  Emma Darrow had two hits in the doubleheader, including one double. Anslee Logan (RBI), Emmalee Freeman (RBI), Mary Catherine Kimball (RBI), Ferro (home run, three RBI), Ahmani Green (three stolen bases), Athens Hudson, Linley Haynes, and CeCe Williams each contributed one hit in the two games. The split left the Parsons with a 14-34 record. Georgia Highlands (20-14, 9-5 GCAA) welcomes East Georgia State College for a three-game series on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s doubleheader is set for 2 p.m., and Saturday’s single game will be at 12 noon.
