Georgia Highlands College completed a three-game series sweep of Three Rivers College (CT) by shutting out the Raiders twice Saturday at LakePoint in Emerson. The Chargers won the first game Saturday 5-0 and the second game 10-0. GHC won the series opener Friday, 12-3. Drew Wilson tossed a five hitter and allowed only one walk with six strikeouts in the 5-0 win. Matthew Norton allowed only three hits and struck out two in the Chargers’ mercy run-rule, five inning 10-0 win. John White had three hits and three RBIs in the doubleheader. Grant Bodison had three hits and two RBIs. Devin Bilardello also had three hits. Bronco O’Brien, Nick Piccapietra (RBI), Brandon Bell (2 RBIs), Evan Mask (RBI), and Israel Zackery (2 RBIs) each had a two-hit day. Georgia Highlands (20-9) begins conference play this week with a four-game series against East Georgia State CC. The Chargers will host Tuesday at LakePoint before traveling to Swainsboro for a single game Friday and a doubleheader with the Bobcats Saturday.

Seven Cartersville pitchers combined on a two-hit, shutout as the Canes defeated Rome 7-0 at State Mutal Stadium Saturday afternoon. Jacob Fowler, J.P. Martin, Harrison Osborn, Spencer Dickey, Jake Gooch, Levi Ayers, and Jake Norris all pitched one inning each for the Hurricanes. Martin struck out three and Ayer had a pair of strikeouts. The group allowed only two hits, one walk, and one hit batsman. Offensively, Cartersville scored a run in the top of the first inning and one in the fifth to hold a 2-0 edge. They then broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning with five runs for a 7-0 final. A pair of walks, a groundout, and a Martin sacrifice fly scored Cartersville’s first run. Devin Warner drove in Anthony Seigler in the fifth for a 2-0 lead. In the seventh, Martin delivered a two-run triple and later scored on a wild pitch. Chadler Tromza followed with another triple and eventually scored on an outfield error. Jake Gooch finished with two hits. Seigler, Warner (RBI), Noah Daniel, Martin (3 RBIs), and Tromza (RBI) had the other Cartersville hits. Brant Smith added one RBI. Rome’s season mark slipped to 8-8 following the loss. Cartersville (12-3, 2-0) returns to Region 5AAAA play Tuesday when the Hurricanes host Cedartown at Richard Bell Field at 5:55pm. The Canes travel to LaGrange Thursday and host Troup County Friday, both are 5:55pm starts.

The Georgia Highlands softball team swept a doubleheader Friday with West Georgia Tech, 7-0 and 6-1, Friday to complete the first rotation of GCAA games with a 9-5 conference mark and are only one-half game behind league-leading Georgia Military College. Rebecca Meade tossed a complete-game shutout in the first game. She allowed only three hits and a walk while striking out two. Micayla McCoy yielded only one earned run on four hits and a walk in the second game. McCoy fanned five. Andria Booth (photo) led the Chargers’ offense with a 4-for-6 performance at the plate. She had a pair of doubles, a walk, and two stolen bases. Lauren Womack was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk. Mackenzy McFarland hit her third home run of the year in the second game. GHC (25-8, 9-5) plays a midweek doubleheader at the Thomas University JV Tuesday and will return to Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association conference play next Saturday with a trip to Gordon State.

The visiting Three Rivers College Raiders held an early 3-0 lead over Georgia Highlands Friday at LakePoint in Emerson, but the Chargers’ bats got the wakeup call and scored a dozen runs over their next five frames for a 12-3 non-conference win. The bottom portion of the Chargers’ lineup did much of the damage. Caleb McElwaney had three hits including a double a three RBIs to lead the way. Nick Piccapietra had two hits and two RBIs. Grant Bodison finished with two hits and one RBI and Nick Fink drove in a run with two hits that included a double. Those four players were hitting sixth through ninth in the batting order. Bronco O’Brien (RBI), John White (RBI), and Matt Vaccaro had the remaining Georgia Highlands College hits. Colby Taylor (6.2 IP, 3R, 1ER, 9H, 1BB, 4K) picked up the pitching win. Sean Fitzpatrick (2.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2BB) recorded the final seven outs. Three Rivers (4-13) and Georgia Highlands wrap up their three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at LakePoint at noon. Ringgold scored six runs across their final three frames for a come-from-behind 8-5 home win over the Adairsville Tigers Friday night. Adairsville led 2-1 after two innings and 4-2 through three innings, but Ringgold’s offense took over in the latter innings. Tyler Nichols was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Ringgold attack. Tanner Black (2.2 IP, 0R, 2H, 2BB, 6K) — one of four pitchers utilized by Ringgold — picked up the win in relief of starter Rhett Baldwin (3 IP, 4ER, 5H, 3BB, 1K). Halen Huskins drove in two runs for Adairsville with a pair of hits. Garrett Mishoe hit a two-run homer in the second inning. Hunter Hice had two hits, including a double. Taylor Whitley doubled for Adairsville’s other hit. Adairsville’s Caden Gibbs (4 IP, 4ER, 6H, 2BB, 3K) started on the mound. Chase Powell (1 IP, 3R, 2ER, 2H, 1BB) suffered the loss in relief in the fifth inning. Taylor Whitley (1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 0H, 1BB) worked the sixth inning on the mound. Ringgold improved to 12-3 overall and remained unbeaten in Region 6AAA at 3-0. Adairsville (3-8, 0-2) plays at Coahulla Creek Saturday at 4pm and will host Haralson County on Tuesday at 5:55pm.

Devin Warner homered twice and Anthony Seigler hit a home run as the Cartersville Hurricanes pounded out 13 hits and 13 runs to shutout Chapel Hill 13-0 in Douglasville Friday night for a Region 5AAAA win. Mason Barnette went the five-inning distance for a two-hit, shutout. He walked one and struck out nine. Seigler finished with three hits and a pair of RBIs that included his homer and a double. Warner drove in three runs with his two dingers. J.P. Martin and Spencer Dickey both had two hits. Chandler Tromza (2 RBIs), Levi Ayers, Jacob Fowler (2 RBIs), and Noah Daniel had one hit each for the Canes. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 8-11 overall and 0-3 in region play. Cartersville (11-3, 2-0) plays Rome in a non-region game Saturday at the Rome Braves’ State Mutual Stadium at 1pm and will host Cedartown in a Region 5AAAA matchup Tuesday at 5:55pm at Richard Bell Field.

The Cass Colonels won for the third straight game Friday night to keep their fast Region 7AAAAA start going. Cass scored six runs in the third inning and held off visiting Woodland down the stretch for a home 8-5 win over their county rival. More importantly for the Colonels, it was their third region win without a region loss to begin the league schedule. Cass swept a two-game series with Hiram earlier in the week. The Colonels took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Clay Means led off the inning with a double and Bailey Campbell singled him home with a liner to center field. In the bottom of the third, Cass extended their lead to 7-0 by virtue of three walks, hits by Steven Spell and Zach Yancey, and a grand slam home run by Evan Hinton. Cass added another run in the bottom of the fourth on a Campbell sac fly that scored Means. Woodland got a three-run double by Jacob Frye in the fifth that narrowed the Cass lead to 8-3 and a Trenton Harrison two-run homer in the sixth that made the score 8-5. Yancey (5.2 IP, 5ER, 6H, 2BB, 4K) started on the mound for Cass and picked up the pitching victory. Hinton recorded one out and walked a batter in the sixth inning. Jake Collum earned a save with a scoreless seventh. Collum allowed a pair of hits, but struck out the side. Cauy Williams (3 IP, 8ER, 7H, 3BB, 4K) and Grayson Bagwell (3 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 3K) pitched for the Wildcats with Williams getting the loss. Koby Stansel had three hits for Woodland including a double. Garrett Cornett and Jordan Lee also had hits for the Wildcats. Cass (10-6, 3-0) plays at Woodland Monday at 5:55pm. The Colonels will then play a two-game series with Villa Rica on Wednesday and Friday. Woodland (9-3, 0-1) plays at East Paulding Wednesday after hosting Cass on Monday. The Wildcats will host the Raiders Friday.

The Adairsville High School tennis teams both won 4-1 Friday in Region 6AAA matches with Coahulla Creek. The Lady Tigers won at home and the Tigers picked up a road victory over the Colts. The Cass girls and boys soccer teams both picked up Region 7AAAAA wins Friday night at Hiram, while the Cartersville boys earned a shutout win over Chapel Hill for a region victory. CASS GIRLS 5, HIRAM 1 The Cass girls soccer team defeated Hiram Friday night, 5-1, in Region 7AAAAA action played at Hiram High School. The Lady Colonels scored all five goals in the first half and led 5-0 at the intermission. Logan Vermaas scored two goals and had an assist on a goal by Lupita Pineda. Stephanie Robledo scored a goal with an assist from Kelsey Rivera and Rivera added a score of her own on a penalty kick. Jocelyn Pineda and Morgan Delarm had the assists on the goals scored by Vermaas. Cass put 11 shots on goal in the first half and had seven more in the second half. Cass Girls Soccer defeated Hiram 5-1. Halftime score was 5-0. Cass scorers were: The Lady Hornets fell to 1-8 on the season and 1-4 in region play. Cass has now won three in a row to even their season mark at 5-5. The Lady Colonels are now 3-2 in Region 7AAAAA and host Villa Rica next Friday. CASS BOYS 11, HIRAM 2 The Cass boys soccer team routed Hiram Friday night on the Hornets’ home turf, 11-2. Anthony Robledo scored four goals, including three in the first half, and added five assists to lead the Colonels’ rout. Jorge Cabanos scored a pair of first half goals on penalty kicks for Cass and gave the Colonels a 3-0 lead. The two penalty kick goals were about 12 minutes apart, early in the opening half. Carlos Perez scored a pair of Cass goals, one in each half. Slomi Orozco found the net and contributed two assists. Brayan Rodriguez and David Spires scored the other Cass goals in the second half. Nelson Arroyo had a pair of assists for the Colonels offense. Cass led 6-1 at halftime. Colonels’ keeper, Brandon Romero, had five saves in goal. CARTERSVILLE BOYS 2, CHAPEL HILL 0 The Cartersville boys soccer team shutout Chapel Hill Friday night 2-0 in a road Region 5AAAA match for the Hurricanes. James Chege scored in the 45th minute and Barrett Hester found the back of the net in the 65th minute for the Canes’ two goals. Pedro Ghanem assisted on both goals. The Cass boys tennis team continued its quest of the No. 2 seed headed toward the Region 7AAAAA playoffs with a pair of tennis wins this week. The Colonels defeated Paulding County Thursday 5-0 and edged Villa Rica earlier in the week, 3-2. The Cartersville track and field teams competed Thursday at the Darlington Five-Way Meet in Rome with both the girls and boys teams placing third.
