The Colonels finished 20.5 points ahead of Calhoun and 49.5 points ahead of Coosa. The Calhoun girls were 43 points ahead of Cass with the Lady Colonels edging Coosa by one point. The Adairsville girls soccer team lost for the first time this season Wednesday night, falling in overtime at Bremen, 1-0. The game was a matchup of two of the top teams in Region 6-AAA. Emily Collum scored the Lady Tigers’ only goal. It came in the third minute to give Adairsville an early 1-0 lead. Bremen scored late in the first half to tie the game 1-1 at the intermission. Following a scoreless second half, the game went into overtime. Bremen scored on a 35-yard shot at the end of the first overtime period to take the lead. After a scoreless second overtime half, that shot would be the difference for a 2-1 Lady Blue Devils win. Bremen improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in region play with the win. Adairsville (4-1, 1-1) is scheduled to play at Haralson County Thursday. BREMEN BOYS 1, ADAIRSVILLE 0 In a hard-fought game where the Tigers controlled the ball much of the time, Bremen tallied the only goal for a 1-0 Region 6AAA victory. “We controlled the ball about 85 percent of the game,” said Adairsville coach Kelly Abernathy. “We just couldn’t put the ball in the net.” Adairsville placed 28 shots on goal, but the Blue Devils net minders were up to the task. Stuart Abernathy had 17 saves and Nic Jackson eight in net for the Tigers. “We played well,” stated coach Abernathy. “They have a tough atmosphere to play in, but the boys gave it 110 percent. I’m very proud of their effort and looking forward to playing again tomorrow.” Bremen improved to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 6AAA action. Adairsville (1-3, 1-1) plays at Haralson County Thursday.

The Cass baseball team fell behind early Wednesday at Kennesaw Mountain and lost to the Mustangs, 6-3. Kennesaw Mountain scored a run in the first inning on a wild pitch to go ahead 1-0, but it was a five-run third inning that became insurmountable for the Colonels. Five walks, a hit batsman, a sacrifice fly, and two singles plated five runs for the Mustangs in the decisive third inning. Clay Means and Bailey Campbell had run producing singles in the fourth to score three runs for Cass, but it would not be enough. Cody Johnson (2.2 IP, 6ER, 1H, 5BB) started on the mound for the Colonels and was saddled with the loss. Austin Pruett (3.1 IP, 0R, 6H, 1BB, 1K) worked the final 3-plus innings on the mound for Cass. Means (triple, RBI) and Campbell (2 RBI) both finished with a pair of hits. Jake Collum, Steven Spell, and Zach Yancey had the other Colonels’ base hits. Kennesaw Mountain improved to 6-5 on the season with the win. Cass, now 7-5, will host Adairsville Friday at 5:55pm

Nick Fink’s extra base hit in the bottom of the tenth inning lifted Georgia Highlands College to an extra innings 5-4 win over Vincennes University (Ind.) Wednesday afternoon at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson. The game was tied 4-4 going to extra innings. Vincennes took an early lead on a solo homers by Jonathan Blackwell and Chance Bodine, but the Chargers scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning. Bronco O’Brien singled, Vincennes committed an outfield error, and Brandon Bell hit a two-run homer to account for the Georgia Highlands runs. Back to back singles by the Blazers in front of a Chargers’ infield error tied the game 3-3 in the top of the seventh and then both teams scored a run in the eighth. Three straight singles gave Vincennes a 4-3 lead in the top of the frame. John White had an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. The Blazers collected 13 hits in the game. Bodine, Blackwell, Slater Rush, and Nathan Forrest each produced multiple hits for Vincennes. Bradley Hood earned the pitching win for the Chargers working only a shutout tenth inning with one strikeout. Jake Lovvorn (4.2 IP, 2ER, 7H, 2BB, 4K) started on the mound for the Chargers. Britt Buckelew, Ryan Bramlett, and David Hussey pitched in middle relief. O’Brien had two hits for Georgia Highlands. Bell hit the two-run homer. John White (RBI), Fink (RBI), Nick Piccapietra, and Isreal Zackery had the other Chargers’ hits. GEORGIA HIGHLANDS 12, VINCENNES 1 The Chargers also won the second game of a doubleheader with Vincennes 12-1 Wednesday. Bronco O’Brien had a walk-off, inside-the-park grand slam to give Georgia Highlands the margin for a mercy-rule win. Georgia Highlands improved to 14-8 with the two wins and the Chargers have now won eight straight games. Next for Georgia Highlands is Indian Hills CC (Iowa) Friday at 3pm at LakePoint.

The Woodland girls soccer team lost to Kell Tuesday night 4-0 in Region 7AAAAA action in Cobb County. Coach Jonathan Cannon of the Lady Cats noted continued improvement of his squad despite the loss. “We’re finding some confidence in each other and getting better,” Cannon said following the game. “Kell had a couple of balls that bounced around and found the net, but the team has kept a very positive attitute even though we’ve had an adventurous start to the season.” Cannon noted the performances of Lexie Lehmann, Morgan Ketchum, and Holly Quick on Monday night. He also credited Emelina Acevedo with an outstanding performance in net after the Lady Cats lost their starter to injury. Kell improved to 3-3 on the season with the shutout win. The Lady Longhorns are now 2-0 in region play. Woodland (0-6-1, 0-3) will host county-rival Cass Friday night in another region match that kicks off at 5:30pm. KELL BOYS 1, WOODLAND 0 The Wildcats battled, but fell to the currently unbeaten Longhorns Monday night in Cobb County. Kell got the game's only goal and improved to 7-0 for the season and 2-0 in Region 7AAAAA. Woodland slipped to 3-3-1 overall and is 1-2 in region play. The Wildcats host rival Cass Friday at 7:30pm in a Region 7AAAAA tilt.

The Cass High School tennis teams split Region 7AAAAA decisions with the Rome Wolves Monday. The Colonels defeated Rome 4-1, but the Cass girls fell to the Lady Wolves 4-1. “This was a big win for us today,” said Cass coach Kevin Cunningham. “It keeps us undefeated in the region and on track for securing a spot in the state playoffs. Adairsville’s Sam Seaman tossed a complete-game, scattered six hits and a walk, and earned a 6-3 win for the Tigers Monday night in an upset of Class AAAAA 7th-ranked Carrollton. Seaman also homered and doubled in a 3-for-3 night at the plate that included a walk and three RBIs. The loss was only the second of the year for the visiting Trojans, while the win was just Adairsville’s second of the season. Carrollton scored a run in the top of the first inning and two more in the top of the third, but the Tigers answered each time and Seaman (photo left) kept the Trojans off the scoreboard the remainder of the night. Adairsville scored two runs in the bottom of the first to go ahead 2-1. The Tigers added two more runs in the bottom of the third to go back ahead 4-3 and added two more insurance runs in the sixth for the 6-3 final. Andy Smith had two hits and one RBI to lead Carrollton’s bats. Mike Wright tripled, Tate Fricks, Cole Sauls, and Asa Awbrey had the other Trojans’ hits. Rhett Daniel pitched into the fifth inning for Carrollton and suffered the loss. In addition to Seaman’s offensive output, Kyler Pelfrey, Hunter Hice (RBI), and Cody Henderson (RBI) all had two hits each for the Tigers. Noah Dutton (RBI) and Garrett Mishoe had the other Adairsville base hits. Carrollton slipped to 8-2 on the season with the loss. Adairsville (2-6) plays at county-rival Cass Friday at 5:55pm.

The Woodland Wildcats scored in every inning except the seventh Monday night in a 13-9 win over Chattooga in Summerville. Woodland went up 10-0 in the top of the third on two runs in the first, five runs in the second, and three more in the third frame. The big margin did not last long, however, as the Indians posted seven runs of their own in the bottom of the third to narrow the lead to 10-7. The Wildcats added single runs in each of the next three innings and Chattooga managed only two more in the bottom of the fifth for the 13-9 final score. Both teams finished the night with nine hits. Jacob Frye had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs for Woodland. Noah Ludy had a double and drove in three runs. Jordan Lee also finished with a hit and three RBIs. Jacob Harper, Toby Queen, Cauy Williams, and Trenton Harrison also produced hits for the Wildcats. Kenny Jinks (3 IP, 7R, 3ER, 7H, 1BB, 5K) started on the mound for Woodland and was awarded the pitching victory. Frye (1.1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 0H, 4BB, 3K) and Williams (1.2 IP, 0R, 2H, 0BB, 4K) pitched in middle relief. Tommy Peed struck out the side in the seventh inning to earn a save. Chattooga (0-8) remained winless on the year with the loss. Woodland (9-1) will host Calhoun Thursday and Cedartown Friday. Both games are scheduled for 5pm.
