Henley tops among Scott Hamilton Golf Academy players this week at The Greenbrier Classic

July 6, 2015

The PGA Tour stop this week (July 2-5) was in West Virginia at The Greenbrier Classic.

That is where Russell Henley fired a 7-under par 63 Sunday and climbed 35 places in the standings to finish alone in fifth place.  He was the highest finishing player among the PGA Tour players affiliated with Cartersville Country Club’s Scott Hamilton Golf Academy.

Henley fired rounds of 70-66-69-63 and climbed into 39th place in the FedExCup standings.

Other SH Golf Academy players with top finishes this week were Brendon Todd (T6, -11) and Steven Bowditch (T13, -10).

Danny Lee won the tournament in a four-man playoff over David Hearn, Robert Streb, and Kevin Kisner.  Those four players finished the regulation 72 holes at 13-under-par.

Kisner and Streb were eliminated on the first playoff hole when Lee and Hearn both birdied the par-3 eighteenth.   The playoff then moved to the par-5 seventeenth where Lee won his first-ever PGA Tour title with a par.

Former SH Golf Academy player — Acworth’s Jason Bohn — was a co-leader going into Sunday’s round.

Bohn shot a PGA Tour career low 61 on Saturday after barely making the cut, but then slipped to a tie for 13th Sunday with a 71.

The Greenbrier Classic was played at The Old White TPC course in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

The web.com Tour was at the Nova Scotia Open July 2-5 where Abraham Ancer defeated Bronson Burgoon in a playoff to win.

Hunter Hamrick (T10, -10) and Kelvin Day (T75, +1) were the top Scott Hamilton Golf Academy players to compete at Ashburn Country Club in Halifax, Canada.

Next week, the web.com Tour moves to Boise, Idaho for the Albertsons Open presented by Kraft.  The PGA Tour will play the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.  Both events are scheduled for July 9-12.

Scott Hamilton is the Director of Golf at Cartersville Country Club and works with many prominent members of the PGA Tour through his instruction and teaching.
