Cartersville Little League 10U and 11U suffer first state tourney losses

Warner Robins American 4, Cartersville 10U 1


Cartersville Little League 10U suffered its first loss at the double-elimination state tournament Tuesday night in Athens. 


Cartersville 10U led 1-0 through two innings, but Warner Robins-American tied the game in the top of the third inning and grabbed the lead for good in the fourth with three more runs and a 4-1 win.


Wyatt Clayton (4 IP, 4R, 2ER, 2H, 2BB, 5K) made the pitching start for Cartersville 10U and was tagged with the loss. Brantley Tilley (1.2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 1K) and Marshall Pressley (0.1 IP) also pitched for the locals.


Lucas Penland (RBI), Bode Mathis, Tilley (double), and Lincoln Ezell each had one hit for Cartersville 10U.


Cartersville 10U slipped to the loser’s bracket on Wednesday at 8 p.m. and will play an elimination game against the Martinez-Evans vs. Smyrna winner. Matinez-Evans and Smyrna are scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m. The survivor on Wednesday will advance to the championship round and must defeat Warner Robins American twice on Thursday.



Peachtree City 1, Cartersville 11U 0


Cartersville Little League 11U dropped a 1-0 nailbiter Tuesday night to Peachtree City for their first loss at the double-elimination state tournament in Toccoa.


Cartersville 11U pitchers Tripp Walker (4.1 IP, 1ER, 4H, 3BB, 1K) and Fin Rogan (0.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 2K) made strong appearances on the mound, but Peachtree City pushed across the game’s only run in the bottom of the fourth inning with back-to-back singles and a passed ball.


Wheeler Arthur, Brayden Taylor, and Walker each had one hit for Cartersville 11U in the loss.


Cartersville 11U moves to an elimination game on Thursday at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Columbus-Northern vs. Smyrna matchup from Wednesday night. The winner of Thursday's game will move on to the championship round against Peachtree City on Friday at 6 p.m.
