Monday's local softball roundup: Region 7-4A race tightens

Cass, Cartersville, and Woodland collected Region 7-4A wins Monday night, with the Lady Colonels and Lady Canes winning battles against two of the other contenders for the lead in the Region 7-4A standings.
At Adairsville, the Lady Tigers were swept in a region doubleheader with Calhoun.
CARTERSVILLE 7, ALLATOONA 6

The host Lady Canes trailed Allatoona 3-0 heading to the bottom of the third inning Monday night before scoring seven runs across the next four innings for a narrow 7-6 Region 7-6 victory.
The win for Cartersville evened the season series between the two teams. Allatoona won 5-3 in mid-August. The rubber game in the regular season series will be at Allatoona on September 30.
Presley Crabbe picked up the pitching win in relief of starter Zoie Shiflett for the Lady Canes. Crabbe, who struck out five, allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks. Shiflett gave up three earned runs on six hits and struck out three.
Addi Burns had two hits and one RBI for Cartersville. Shiflett (home run, two RBI), Kinsey Woodard (RBI), LaKiaya Banks (double), Taryn Bradley (double), Kennedy Crenshaw, and Sam Porter (double) added one hit. Emilee Brinson drove in one run.
The Lady Bucs slipped to 7-4 overall and 7-3 in Region 7-4A.
Cartersville (15-2, 8-2) visits Hiram on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
CASS 8, CEDARTOWN 7
A six-run top of the fourth keyed the Lady Colonels' win Monday evening at Cedartown, 8-7.
Cedartown led 2-0 through the first three frames before Cass posted six in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The host Bulldogs added a single run in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one more in the bottom of the seventh, but stranded the potential tying run at third base in their final at-bat.
Kylie Gentry was the winning pitcher for Cass and worked all seven innings in the circle. She allowed seven runs (four earned) on nine hits, one walk, and two hit batters. She struck out three.
Natalie Hughes (two RBI) and Bailey York led the Lady Colonels’ offense with three hits. KK Evans contributed two. Shyia Woods (two RBI), Lindsey Chubb (two RBI), Gentry (RBI), and Autumn Smith added one hit.
The loss dropped Cedartown to 9-6 overall and 8-3 in Region 7-4A.
Cass (11-4, 9-2) has won nine of its last ten and will host Allatoona on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Colonels' lone loss in that stretch was to the Lady Buccaneers.
WOODLAND 14, HIRAM 6
The Lady Cats scored eight runs in the first two innings Monday evening and held on to win at Hiram, 14-6.
Woodland added a run in the top of the fourth to build a 7-0 lead, but the host Hornets scored six times in the bottom of the fourth to narrow the margin to one run.
The Wildcats put the game away in the top of the fifth with five more runs.
Woodland out-hit Hiram eleven to two.
Evelyne Tucker picked up the pitching win for the Lady Cats. She was charged with six unearned runs on two hits and five walks. Tucker fanned four. Bella Kuykendall retired the final four outs in the circle, allowing no runs or hits. She had one strikeout.
Bailey Gerstner had three hits for Woodland, including one double and three RBI. Kamryn Smith (home run, two RBI) and Gracie Korb (RBI) produced two hits. Ashlyn Baines (double, RBI), Sonny Hicks (RBI), Bailey Ryan (double, two RBI), and Sis Pirkle added one hit. Kylee Poston contributed one RBI.
The loss dropped Hiram to 3-8 overall and 3-7 in Region 7-4A.
Woodland (4-7, 3-5) hosts Southeast Whitfield on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
CALHOUN 6, ADAIRSVILLE 1
CALHOUN 9, ADAIRSVILLE 4
Calhoun swept a Region 7-3A doubleheader at Adairsville Monday night, winning 6-1 and 9-4.
In the opener, Calhoun broke open a 2-1 game with four runs in the top of the fifth for a 6-1 victory. In the second game, Adairsville cut into a 5-0 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the second inning, but could get no closer in a 9-4 loss.
Ashlyn Carlton (8.1 IP, 11R, 8ER, 18H, 3BB, 7K) was tagged with the pitching loss in both games. Ansley Powell (3.2 IP, 4ER, 5H, 3BB, 2K) and Maddie Baggett (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB) also pitched for the Lady Tigers.
Chloe Hill led Adairsville with four hits in the doubleheader. Carlton followed with three hits, including one double. Annabelle Mitchell (two RBI) and Powell (double) had two hits. Alivia Joslin (double, three RBI), Lily Roberts, and Cadey Evans added one hit for the Lady Tigers.
Calhoun improved to 5-8 overall and 4-6 in Region 7-3A.
Adairsville (10-6, 3-5) travels to Heritage-Catoosa on Tuesday for the first pitch at 5:30 p.m.
