Whitewater Wildcats sweep into Class AAAA baseball finals

The Whitewater Wildcats swept the Veterans Warhawks 1-0 and 5-1 Monday in one of the GHSA Class 4A semifinals. The wins advance Whitewater to the state championship series against the winner of the Cartersville-Buford semifinal series.

Heavy rains at Richard Bell Field in Cartersville on Monday washed out the two innings completed between the 'Canes and Wolves. Cartersville and Buford will restart Game 1 of their series from scratch on Tuesday, May 19 at 4pm with Game 2 to follow. If a third game is necessary, it would be played on Wednesday, May 20. Pitching was dominant for the Wildcats in their sweep. Jake Lee struck out eleven and allowed only one hit through seven innings in the Wildcats' Game 1 semifinal win. Colby Taylor entered to close out the game in the eighth inning for Whitewater. Nick Weinstein drove in the game winner with a sacrifice fly in the eighth for Whitewater. In Game 2, Ethan Gillis pitched a complete game and struck out 11. Jabari Richards had three RBI. Brandon Bell and Miles Jones had the other Wildcat RBI.
