Lady Canes' defense tops Pepperell

The Cartersville girls basketball team earned a non-region victory Tuesday night at the Storm Center by holding off visiting Pepperell, 38-29.


Cartersville led at each quarter stop and kept the visiting Lady Dragons from reaching double figures in any of the four periods.


“We played great defense tonight,” said Cartersville head coach Cindy Moore. “Our best of the year so far.”


The Lady Canes led 14-8 after one quarter and were up 21-12 at halftime. Cartersville then extended its lead to 31-20 after three periods and held on for a nine point victory.


Anna Cowan led Pepperell (1-1) with eight points. Kinsey Wright added five.


The Lady Canes were led in scoring by Amaya Davis who totaled nine points. Cio Seigler followed with seven points and grabbed eight rebounds. Addie Smith also scored seven points.


London Shaw finished with six points. Kalli Scheff contributed four points. Ariana Cochran scored three points while De’Asia Jefferson added two points. Jefferson also led the Lady Canes with nine rebounds.


Cartersville (1-2) hosts Calhoun Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
