GHC falls at West Georgia Tech

After visiting Georgia Highlands caught West Georgia Tech in the top of the fifth 5-5, the host Golden Knights pulled away from the Chargers over the next three frames for a 16-6 conference victory in seven innings.


West Georgia Tech held a 4-0 lead after three innings, but Georgia Highlands scored five runs across the fourth and fifth innings to knot the game.


West Georgia Tech responded with six runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and four more in the seventh to end the game early, 16-6.


Jacob Warren hit a home run and had four doubles for the Golden Knights in a 5-for-5 day that included eight RBI. Three more WGTCC hitters finished with two hits each — Brock Maxwell, Tony Matos, and Jacob Early.


Parker Orr hit a three-run homer for Georgia Highlands in the fourth to narrow the West Georgia Tech lead to 4-3. Zach Miller also homered for the Chargers. Blake Brady had two hits including a double and two RBI.


Kevin Barham (0.1 IP, 5ER, 3H, 2BB) took the pitching loss for GHC in relief of starter Alex Holdbrooks (4 IP, 5R, 4ER, 7H, 0BB, 2K). Travis Kuebler (1.1 IP, 2ER, 1H, 2BB, 1K) and Cody Johnson (1 IP, 4R, 0ER, 2H, 2BB, 1K) also pitched for the Chargers.


Jalan Daniels (2.1 IP, 1ER, 3H, 0BB, 1K) was the pitching winner for the Knights in relief of starter Aubrey Davis (4.2 IP, 5R, 3ER, 4H, 6BB, 7K).


Georgia Highlands (17-8, 3-3) will host the remainder of the four-game series with West Georgia Tech (10-16, 1-5) with a single game Friday and doubleheader Saturday at LakePoint in Emerson.
