Wildcats lose opener at Florida tourney


Woodland lost its first game of the Pine Forest - Adidas Beach Blast Invitational Monday afternoon in Pensacola. The Wildcats dropped an 11-6 decision to West Forsyth (GA).


Woodland — playing as the home team — led 6-5 through three innings, but the Wolverines scored four runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth for an eventual five-run win. The Wildcats utilized four pitchers in the tournament opener with starter Scotty Smith (3 IP, 5R, 4ER, 4H, 2BB, 3K) taking the loss. Zach Wilson (0.0 IP, 4ER, 1H, 1BB), Koby Stansel (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 2K), and Fisher Davis (3 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 2BB, 1K) also took the mound for Woodland.


Wilson led the Woodland offense with a pair of hits and a walk in four plate appearances. Toby Queen had a double and three RBI. Stansel had a hit and one RBI. Ward doubled and Davis had one hit.


West Forsyth improved to 7-12 with Monday’s win.


Woodland (10-10) plays Corbin (KY) Tuesday.
