Tigers earn state tourney berth


The Adairsville boys tennis team won a Region 6-AAA quarterfinal match Wednesday at the Calhoun Recreation Center and will advance to the Class AAA state tournament for the first time since 2014. The Tigers defeated Coahulla Creek 3-2 with a pair of singles wins and a victory at Line 2 doubles. Cameron O’Neal defeated his Coahulla Creek opponent at Line 2 singles 6-3, 6-3 and the doubles tandem of Zach Ogle and Tristin Alford won 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 leaving the balance of the match on Oak Hemby at Line 3 singles. His three-set (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) win advanced the Tigers.


Adairsville’s Landon Swanson and Cody Kimbrough lost at Line 1 doubles 4-6, 5-7 and Jack Bates fell at Line 1 singles, 1-6, 3-6.


Wednesday afternoon, the Tigers lost to Calhoun 3-0. Bates lost at Line 1 singles 0-6, 0-6 and O’Neal fell at Line 2, 1-6, 0-6. Swanson and Kimbrough lost at Line 1 doubles, 2-6, 1-6. Once the Yellow Jackets had secured the three points needed to win the match, the remaining two matches were suspended. Hemby was trailing at Line 3 singles and the doubles team of Ogle/Alford trailed at Line 2 doubles.


Adairsville will play in the Region 6-AAA third place match Thursday at 11 a.m. against Sonoraville in Calhoun.




NORTH MURRAY 3, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 2


The Lady Tigers had their season end Wednesday in an opening round 3-2 loss to North Murray at the Region 6-AAA tournament in Calhoun.


Adairsville’s Megan Smith and Madison Camp earned the Lady Tigers’ two wins. Smith won 6-2, 6-1 at Line 1 singles and Camp was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at Line 3. The duo of Kate Faulk and Joie Bryant extended their Line 2 doubles match to a third set before falling, 4-6, 6-2, 0-6. Olivia Long and Kayleigh Collum lost at Line 1 doubles 4-6, 2-6 and Alexandra Kanturek dropped her Line 2 singles match 3-6, 6-7 (6-3).
