Ronnie Brown to be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame
Former Cartersville High, Auburn, and NFL running back, Ronnie Brown, will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame May 2, 2020. The 52nd annual induction banquet is set for the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel. The eight newly inductees increases the total number of inductees to 369. Born December 12, 1981 in Rome, Brown was a Class AA all-state running back in 1998 and 1999. He was also the Class AA Player of the Year in 1999 as the Canes went 15-0 under coach Frank Barden and defeated Hart County 27-21 for the state title.
At Auburn, he finished seventh in school history in rushing yards and fifth in rushing touchdowns. He was the 2003 Citrus Bowl MVP and was drafted second overall by the Miami Dolphins in 2005. He was a starter at running back the first four weeks of his rookie season.
In the 2008 NFL season, Brown had 916 yards and 10 touchdowns, leading to his Pro Bowl selection. In 2010, he started all 16 games with the Dolphins. He played six seasons with Miami and went on to play with the Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers and Houston Texans. He retired in 2014 with the Chargers.
Also in the induction Class of 2020 will be college football official Steve Shaw, Birmingham-Southern basketball coach Duane Reboul, former Yankees' catcher Jorge Posada, college football coach Woody McCorvey, former MLB pitcher Q.V. Lowe, paralympian Doug Kennedy, and college football coach Sylvester Croom.
