GHC softball wins finalé at Sun Chief Invitational


The Georgia Highlands softball team played four games Friday and Saturday at the Gulf Shores, Alabama Sun Chief Invitational and went 1-3 in those games. The Chargers dropped a 10-2 contest to Chattanooga State and a 12-0 decision to Wallace State-Hanceville in Friday’s games. They then fell Saturday to Central Alabama 11-10 before salvaging a win in the event by beating Trinity Valley, 5-4.


In the four games, Deyonce Lewis led the GHC offense by going 6-for-10 with a double, sac fly, three runs scored and had a pair of RBI. Taryn Hitchcock was 6-for-11 with three walks, one RBI, and scored three runs. Alexis Davis was 6-for-13 with a walk, double, two stolen bases, and two runs scored. Haley Cronic finished the event 4-for-10 at the plate with a home run, two doubles, and four RBI. Halie Walther also had a home run.


Madalyn Morton picked up the lone pitching victory of the weekend for the Chargers. She went 4.2 innings against Trinity Valley and allowed only one earned run on six hits. Montana Ledbetter closed out the win and recorded three strikeouts.


Georgia Highlands (5-8) returns to action Wednesday at home in a 2 p.m. doubleheader against USC-Salkehatchie. The Chargers will also travel to Southern Union State CC Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader start.
