Lady Canes rally in fourth quarter for road region victory

The Cartersville Lady Canes were the only local high school girls team to earn a victory Tuesday night and it came on the road at LaGrange in Region 5-AAAA action. The Cass girls lost at home to unbeaten and 2nd-ranked Kell while the Adairsville girls lost at Ringgold and Woodland dropped its home game with East Paulding. CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 46, LAGRANGE 42

The Lady Canes outscored host LaGrange 20-9 in the final eight minutes to escape with a 46-42 Region 5-AAAA road victory Tuesday night. The Lady Grangers led 19-8 after one quarter, 25-20 at the intermission, and were ahead 31-26 through three quarters before Cartersville rallied in the final period. Cio Seigler contributed six and Jada Cunningham added two points for the Hurricanes. Chaquave’ayr Robinson scored 11 for the Lady Grangers and Kylah Campbell added 10. Corriah Williams and Madison Coverson followed with eight and seven points, respectively. The loss leaves LaGrange at 7-9 for the season and 0-3 in region action. Cartersville (8-7, 1-2) hosts region games with Sandy Creek Friday night and Chapel Hill Saturday night — both 6 p.m. starts in The Storm Center. KELL 61, CASS GIRLS 54

The Cass girls led Class AAAAA 2nd-ranked Kell for much of the evening Tuesday night at home, but the Lady Longhorns came back with a 21-point fourth quarter to outlast the Lady Colonels, 61-54. Cass led 11-10 after one quarter, 30-29 at halftime, and 42-40 heading into the final period. Claire Davis (photo) had a game-high 23 points for Cass and Londaisha Smith scored 15 for the Lady Colonels in their loss. Haley Johnson scored seven while Ariana Hames, Justice Bennett, and Amaya Ford tallied three points apiece. Kell (17-0, 8-0 Region 7-AAAAA) was led by Crystal Henderson with 21 points, Jada Green with 17, and Jamiah Gregory added nine points. Cass (12-6, 3-6) travels to Paulding County Friday for a 6 p.m. tip and plays at East Paulding Saturday at 3 p.m. RINGGOLD 64, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 20 Rachel Akers scored 16 and Sydney Pittman 10 to help lead host Ringgold past the Adairsville girls, 64-20, in Region 6-AAA action Tuesday night. Ringgold (9-7, 7-2) led 29-11 at halftime and was up 50-15 after three quarters on their way to a 44-point victory. Haley Stiles led Adairsville with six points. Yatorrean Hale scored five and Autumn Henderson added four points for the visiting Tigers. Adairsville (5-12, 2-7) entertains North Murray Friday night in another Region 6-AAA matchup at 7 p.m. and will host Pickens in non-region action Saturday night at 6 p.m. EAST PAULDING 45, WOODLAND GIRLS 40 The Lady Cats made a nice run at visiting East Paulding Tuesday night in the fourth quarter, but came up short in a 45-40 Region 7-AAAAA loss. The visiting Lady Raiders led 9-5 after one quarter, 17-10 at halftime, and 37-25 after three quarters before holding on for a five-point win. Kimberlyn Black led East Paulding (4-13, 3-6) with 10 points. Halle Verkerk and Faith Lovejoy scored seven each for the Raiders. Jordan Thompson paced Woodland with 13 points. Carli Clymer scored seven. Abigail Taylor and Morgan Cooper added five apiece for the Lady Cats. Woodland (3-13, 1-7) hosts Rome Friday night at 6 p.m.
