The Woodland girls placed third and the Woodland boys were fourth Saturday hosting the 16th annual Run at the Rock. The Cartersville girls placed 10th and the Canes’ boys finished sixth. The Woodland girls third place finish had all five counting runners in the top 30. The King’s Academy won the girls championship with Marietta finishing as runner-up. East Paullding and Coosa closed out the top five of 14 teams. The Lady Canes placed 10th in the race that included 118 runners on the 5K course. Sophia Cook (19:52) and Alishia Cook (20:37) of Coosa finished first and second to capture the individual champion and runner-up slots. Woodland senior Emma Segars (22:18) placed fifth. Other scoring runs for the Lady Cats included Olivia Berry (13th, 23:13), Danielle Thayer (15th, 23:24), Miranda Pelow (29th, 24:22), and Abby George (30th, 24:32). Cartersville was led by the 12th place finish of Anna Grace Boone (22:53). Other Lady Canes included Samantha Herrera (46th, 26:04), Meredith Gaines (54th, 26:37), Julianne Latham (75th, 28:02), and Rileigh Worthan (108th, 30:37). The Woodland boys placed fourth, the Cartersville boys were sixth, and the Cass boys were 10th in the 16-team field that included 129 runners. Marietta won the boys championship followed by Darlington and Cedartown. Duluth placed fifth. Eli Corn of East Paulding was the boys individual winner. He completed the Woodland High course in 16:36 just ahead of the Wildcats’ Tyler Jones who finished in 17:03. Malachi Vosburgh led the Cartersville boys in 17:53 with a fifth place finish. Rounding out the Woodland scoring runs were Drew Thayer (20th, 18:52), Landon McSwain (23rd, 18:54), Juan Mendoza (25th, 18:56), Andy Forsyth (45th, 19:47) and Rowan Lee (46th, 19:50). Top finishers for the Hurricanes included Omar Pina (19th, 18:50), Hayden Mitchell (31st, 19:22), Barrett Stepp (36th, 19:34), and Paul Hyman (54th, 19:58). Leonardo Galeana (59th, 20:07) paced the Cass runners. He was followed by Colonels teammates Jake Wright (67th, 20:30), Sawyer Foy (74th, 20:46), Andrew Rampey (79th, 20:53), and Adam Pierce (91st, 21:38). Next Saturday, the Cartersville teams along with the Cass boys will compete in the Carrollton Orthopaedic Invitational on the GHSA State Championship course at Carrollton High School. Woodland will participate next Saturday in the Big Peach Mustang Stampede hosted by Kennesaw Mountain High School.

Cartersville rallied from a 20-point deficit Friday night for a road win while Cass cruised at home for the Colonels first win of the season. Woodland fell to visiting Model in overtime and Adairsville suffered a loss at high-scoring Rabun County. CARTERSVILLE 28, ALLATOONA 20 Canes’ freshman quarterback Nate Russell was forced into Friday night’s game at Allatoona in a tough situation. Cartersville’s starting quarterback Paul Gamble had been knocked out of the game late in the first half with the Hurricanes trailing the Buccaneers 17-0. A 29-yard field goal by Allatoona on the Bucs first possession of the second half made the score 20-0 and the night looked grim for the Cartersville faithful. The ninth grade signal caller responded in a big way, however, leading Class 5A top-ranked Cartersville to four touchdowns in the final 13 minutes of the game and a 28-20 come-from-behind victory. Russell connected with Collin Fletcher for a 69-yard touchdown pass in the final minute of the third quarter to make the score 20-7. Four minutes into the fourth quarter, Malachi Jeffries darted into the end zone with a 13-yard run narrowing the lead to 20-14. Russell then found Ja’mauri Brice with a 27-yard scoring strike that gave Cartersville a 21-20 lead with 5:53 remaining. Allatoona fumbled on its next possession at its own 12-yard line leading to the Hurricanes’ and Russell’s final score. With 3:04 to play, the freshman signal caller scored on a 4-yard keeper making the score 28-20. An interception on Allatoona’s next possession allowed the Canes to run out the clock. The loss dropped the Buccaneers to 0-3 on the season. Cartersville (3-0) hosts Columbia next Friday night in a 7:30 p.m. start at Weinman Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on WBHF-Cartersville (100.3 FM / AM1450) with pregame coverage beginning at 6 p.m. CASS 58, DREW 15 Devin Henderson caught a 13-yard touchdown pass, ran for a 47-yard touchdown, and threw a 17-yard scoring strike to help guide Cass to a 58-15 home win over Drew Friday night at Cochran Stadium. Mac Nelson added touchdown runs of 12-, 15-, and 2-yards for the Colonels and freshman quarterback Brodie McWhorter contributed a pair of first quarter touchdown passes. Colonels receiver Sacovie White hauled in touchdown receptions from 16- and 17-yards. He also added a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown. Cass led 16-0 at the end of the first quarter and built a 30-0 lead before taking a 51-13 lead to the intermission. Cameron Prather threw for the two Titans touchdowns. Jacobi Carter caught a 32 yard touchdown pass and Makel Lloyd hauled in a 52-yard scoring pass. The loss dropped Drew to 0-2 on the season, Cass (1-2) travels to Adairsville next Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The game will be broadcast on BartowSportsZone.com with pregame coverage at 6 p.m. and kickoff at 7:30 p.m. MODEL 17, WOODLAND 14 (overtime) Model battled back in the second half Friday night at Woodland to send the game to overtime tied 14-14. The Blue Devils’ defense then forced a turnover on Woodland’s first possession of overtime setting up placekicker Daniel Veillon’s 26-yard game winning field goal on the ensuing possession as the Blue Devils escaped with a 17-14 win. Chase Carson capped a quick three play drive with a 2-yard touchdown run that gave Woodland an early 7-0 lead. Two pass completions by Wildcats’ quarterback Brelace Williams set up the opening drive score. In the second quarter, Model’s Jeremiah Gamble tied the game with a 25-yard run. The touchdown capped a short, 37-yard drive. The Wildcats regained the lead on the ensuing kickoff. Isaiah Livsey returned the kick 63 yards to put Woodland ahead 14-7 at halftime. Model tied the score again with a methodical drive on the opening possession of the second half. The Blue Devils drove 74 yards on 14 plays and used almost seven minutes of the third period. Quarterback Dillon Silver finished off the drive with a 6-yard touchdown toss to Jeremias Heard. Veillon’s PAT kick knotted the score at 14-14. Following a scoreless fourth quarter, the game headed to overtime. Model won the overtime coin toss and chose to go on defense first. On third down for Woodland, a Williams pass was deflected and picked off by Silver. Model then ran two plays for short yardage before lining up for Veillon’s game-winning field goal on third down. The Blue Devils improved to 1-2 on the season. Woodland (1-2) travels to Pepperell next Friday. RABUN COUNTY 72, ADAIRSVILLE 36 Rabun County quarterback Keegan Stover and the Wildcats tossed seven touchdown passes Friday night including two of 50+ yards in a 72-36 home win over Adairsville. The Wildcats added a pair of rushing touchdowns including a 40-yard dash by Lang Windham to go with a 38-yard field goal in their victory. Rabun, ranked 4th in Class A Division I, led 49-21 at halftime. Adairsville’s Jonathon Gough connected on a 53-yard touchdown pass to Chris Roper that made the score 21-7 at the time. Roper added two other rushing touchdowns while Caden Copeland and Ethan Blome also added touchdown runs for Adairsville in their loss. Rabun County improved to 3-0 on the season. Cass softball lost both games of a non-region doubleheader at Pickens Thursday night while Adairsville suffered a 9-1 region loss at LaFayette. PICKENS 8, CASS 0 Pickens hurlers Emma Black and Cheyenne Coleman combined for five strikeouts and shutout Cass in the first of two games Thursday evening in Jasper. The Colonels were limited to just four hits in the loss. Alexis Woods, Haylee Dishmon, Ansley Hight, and KK Evans had one hit each. Emma Gibson (5 IP, 8R, 6ER, 9H, 5BB) was the losing pitcher for Cass. PICKENS 10, CASS 2 Lexi Grizzle picked up where the two Pickens pitchers left off in the first game as the Lady Dragons won Game 2 of Thursday’s doubleheader with Cass. Grizzle tossed a complete game for Pickens, struck out four, and allowed only three Cass hits. Reese Howard had a double and one RBI for the Colonels. Haylee Dishmon and Harlee Thomason had the other Cass hits. Bailey York (3 IP, 7R, 6ER, 5H, 5BB) started in the circle for the locals and was tagged with the pitching loss. Cass (6-8, 3-2) returns to Region 7-5A action Tuesday at Dalton with first pitch scheduled for 5:55 p.m. LAFAYETTE 9, ADAIRSVILLE 1 The Adairsville Lady Tigers were limited to just a pair of hits Thursday at LaFayette and dropped a 9-1 Region 6-AAA decision on the Ramblers home field. The game was tied 1-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth inning when LaFayette posted four runs to take control. The Ramblers added four more runs over the final two innings for their victory. Megan Gregory, who suffered the pitching loss, had a double at the plate. McKenzie Pullam had the other Lady Tigers’ base hit. Jordan Clay pitched in relief for Adairsville. LaFayette improved to 9-2-1 overall and 4-0 in region play. Adairsville (5-6-1, 1-3) hosts Ridgeland Wednesday and Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Thursday. Both games are 5:30 p.m. starts.

Cass softball scored four times in the top of the sixth inning Wednesday night at Woodland for a come-from-behind 9-6 Region 7-5A victory. The Lady Colonels peppered 15 hits in the contest while pitchers Emma Gibson and Alexis Woods combined their efforts in the circle. Woods (5.2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 7H, 2BB, 2K) picked up the pitching win for Cass in relief of the starter Gibson (1.1 IP, 4ER, 2H, 3BB, 2K). Woodland utilized three members of the Lady Cats pitching staff. Peyton Dorn (2 IP, 4R, 3ER, 3H) was tagged with the pitching loss in relief of Haley Collum (3 IP, 5ER, 10H, 3BB, 2K). Ashlyn Baines (2 IP, 0R, 2H, 0BB, 2K) also pitched for Woodland. Haylee Dishmon paced the Colonels’ offense with four hits including a double and one RBI. Woods and Reese Howard (RBI) followed with three hits each. Ansley Hight had two hits and three RBIs including a sixth inning, two-run home run that gave Cass a 7-6 lead. Braelyn Franklin, Darianna Sosa (RBI), and Bailey York (2 RBIs) added one hit apiece for the Lady Colonels. Bailey Sakacsi had three hits for Woodland including a double. Dorn contributed a pair of hits and two RBIs. Mackenzie Araya also finished with two hits. Kamryn Smith (RBI) and Alana Carnes added one hit each for the Wildcats. Collum (sac fly) and Jordan Hammonds added one RBI each. Adairsville volleyball lost at Christian Heritage Tuesday night in straight sets falling 25-15 and 25-23. Jenna Claire Hendley had three kills, three blocks, and four digs for the Tigers. Richlyn Blair finished with two kills, two blocks, and four digs. Jayna Wilson had four blocks and four digs. Jordyn Hartline contributed three blocks and one dig. Annie McCormick and Sherry Wells added 11 and nine digs, respectively. The host Lady Lions improved to 9-6 on the season. Adairsville (4-8-2) plays at Excel Christian Academy Thursday at 5 p.m.

Kiley Arnold drove in four runs on three hits Tuesday night to help lead the Cartersville softball team to a 7-3 Region 7-5A win at Calhoun. Arnold drove in runs with a single in the first inning, a bases loaded walk in the fourth and a home run in the sixth inning. The Lady Canes led 2-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning; added two more runs in the fourth to lead 4-1; added two additional runs in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh. Cartersville out hit Calhoun 11-7 in the contest. Ava Perkins took care of the Cartersville pitching duties, tossing a complete game. The hurler scattered seven his and three walks while striking out six to earn the victory. Like Arnold, Elizabeth Nelson had a three hit performance with one RBI. Mikey Lewis, Jordan Bishop (RBI), Layne Callan (RBI), Campbell Rogers, and Erin McCrary finished with one hit apiece for the Hurricanes. The loss for Calhoun (8-3, 4-1) was their first in region play and as a result, Cartersville (5-5-1, 4-1) moves into a first place tie in the Region 7-5A standings. Woodland, rained out on Tuesday, is one-half game back. Cartersville plays at Hiram next Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.

The August Elite Athlete of the Month representing Cartersville High School is Jordan Bishop. She is the daughter of Kamila and Jerry Bishop. A sophomore catcher on the Lady Canes’ softball team, Bishop has a .519 batting average with two home runs and seven RBIs through her team’s first ten games. She also has five stolen bases. “Jordan plays at such a high level right now,” said Cartersville softball coach Glen Woodard. “She has shown improvement from her freshman year to now. Taylor Evans is the August Elite Athlete of the Month for Adairsville High School. A sophomore shortstop on the Lady Tigers’ softball team, she is the daughter of Carlos and Erin Evans. “Taylor leads by example,” said Adairsville softball head coach Amanda Nelson. “She is a great teammate and works hard. Her attitude can be seen and heard anytime our team is preparing or competing. Taylor helps those around her, genuinely wants others to succeed and keeps the energy and positivity vibing. The Cass High School Elite Athlete of the Month for August is Ansley Hight. Hight is the daughter of Adam and Lori Hight. She has opened her senior softball season hitting .560 with 19 RBIs and 5 homeruns in her first nine games. She has committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Southern Mississippi where she will compete in Conference USA with the Golden Eagles. Hight currently carries a 3.5 GPA. Kwadrus Wilson represents Woodland High School as the August Elite Athlete of the Month. A three-sport junior athlete and football captain, Wilson is the son of Derrick Wilson and Lashic Young. “Kwadrus is the epitome of what we’re trying to build our football team on,” said Wildcats head football coach Brandon Haywood. “His consistency and personality is contagious and vital to our team’s success. NFL TREVOR LAWRENCE — Jacksonville Jaguars (2nd yr. pro; NFL; Clemson; Cartersville HS) … After completing 20 of 33 passes in the Jags’ first two preseason games, Lawrence did not play in Jacksonville’s 28-12 loss Saturday at Atlanta. The Jaguars (0-4 in the preseason) begin the regular season September 11 at Washington against the Commanders. MILLER FORRISTALL — Cleveland Browns (2nd yr. pro; NFL; Alabama; Cartersville HS) … the 24-year-old tight end caught two passes Saturday for 13 yards including one for a touchdown in the Browns’ preseason finale’ 21-20 loss to the Chicago Bears. His six yard touchdown reception came early in the fourth quarter. Cleveland, 1-2 in the preseason, opens the regular season Sunday, September 11 at the Carolina Panthers. PRO BASEBALL SAM HOWARD — Toledo Mud Hens (9th yr. pro; Triple-A Detroit Tigers organization; Georgia Southern; Cartersville HS) … made two appearances this past week at home against the Louisville Bats. Tuesday he was touched for two earned runs on two hits including a homer and only retired one batter in the eighth inning of a 7-3 loss. Saturday, the 29-year-old lefty did walk a batter but retired the other two batters he faced in the eighth inning. The appearance earned Howard his sixth hold of the season as the Mud Hens won 3-0. Toledo (65-56) is in third place in the International League’s West Division trailing Nashville by 8.5 games. The Mud Hens play a six game series Tuesday through Sunday at the Rochester Red Wings. ANTHONY SEIGLER — Hudson Valley Renegades (5th yr. pro; High Class-A New York Yankees organization; Cartersville HS) … in five games last week at home against the Hickory Crawdads, the switch hitting catcher was 2-for-16 at the plate with five walks, three runs scored, and four RBIs. For the season Seigler has a .235 batting average with seven home runs and 39 RBIs. He also has 16 stolen bases. Hudson Valley (66-53 overall) is 32-21 in the second half standings and leading the South Atlantic League North Division by 0.5 game with only 12 regular season games remaining. The Renegades host the Jersey Shore Blueclaws Tuesday through Sunday in the six game series.

The Woodland girls were fourth and the Wildcat boys were seventh Saturday at the 30th Ridge Ferry Invitational in Rome. Tyler Jones ran to a fourth place individual finish in 16:42 to lead the Woodland boys. Emma Segars placed 13th overall in 21:53 to lead the Lady Cats. Creekview won the girls team championship followed by Lovett, River Ridge, and the Lady Cats. Armuchee was fifth. North Paulding, North Cobb, Kell, Kennesaw Mountain, and Rome rounded out the top ten girls teams. The girls race included 15 teams and 108 runners. The Wildcats were seventh of 17 total teams in a race that included 143 runners. North Paulding won the team race by one point over Rome. Creekview, Armuchee, and Darlington rounded out the top five and Lovett was sixth. Other top finishes for the Woodland girls: Miranda Pelow (19th, 22:11), Olivia Berry (27th, 22:36.50), Abby George (28th, 22:36.90), and Danielle Thayer (36th, 23:12). Shelby Green of Armuchee won the individual girls race in 18:31. Other top finishes for the Woodland boys: Drew Thayer (28th, 18:07), Landon McSwain (51st, 18:57), Rowan Lee (58th, 19:16), Andy Forsyth (60th, 19:16.70), and Kameron Chappell (61st, 19:16.80). Woodland will host their 16th annual Run at the Rock Invitational Saturday on the school’s campus. Adairsville cross country teams open ’22 season The Adairsville High cross country teams opened the 2022 season Saturday at the Front Runner 5 Star Stride hosted by Heritage High School in Ringgold. While the Lady Tigers did not field a full team, the Tigers placed tenth of 18 participating teams. The boys team competition was won by Dalton, followed by Cedartown and Central-Carroll. Tucker Henderson of LaFayette won the boys race in 16:44. Adairsville was led by Griffin Bozeman who placed 20th overall in 19:00. He was followed by teammates Eli Pearson (21st, 19:03), Michael Spinks (61st, 20:38), Dutch Hernandez (63rd, 20:41), and Cody Teer (103rd, 22:57) Callie Viktora (24:42) of the Lady Tigers finished 29th of 111 runners. Caroline O’Kelley was 34th in 25:01. Next for Adairsville is the Rocky Face Invitational September 8 in Dalton.

Cass softball suffered a pair of losses Saturday participating in the Allatoona Bucs Bash at North Paulding High School. The Lady Colonels were shutout by Lowndes 9-0 in the opener and lost 11-2 to the host Wolfpack in their second game. Pitchers for the Lowndes Lady Vikings limited Cass to just three hits in the first game. Alexis Woods singled and reached by error twice. Darianna Sosa and Reese Howard had the other Lady Colonels hits. Against North Paulding, the Wolfpack broke open a 3-2 game in the bottom of the fourth inning with seven hits and a pair of walks to push across eight runs. Cass again managed only three hits. Ansley Hight drove in both Colonels’ runs with a double in the third inning. Haylee Dishmon had the other two hits including one double. The Lady Colonels (5-6, 2-2 Region 7-5A) play at Woodland Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. and will travel to Pickens Thursday for a non-region game with the Dragons.

Three of the four local teams came away with home victories Friday night as the community enjoyed a full slate of high school football action. The Woodland Wildcats and new head coach Brandon Haywood earned their first win of the year in a 34-0 blanking of Coosa. No. 1-ranked Cartersville started slowly, but cruised to a 38-16 win at Weinman Stadium over the Jonesboro Cardinals. Adairsville and Cherokee Bluff Bears battled back-and-forth through the evening and went to overtime before the Tigers squeaked out a dramatic 51-50 victory. Cass was the only local team to fall on Friday. The Colonels dropped a 30-21 decision to the visiting Rockmart Yellow Jackets. WOODLAND 34, COOSA 0 Isaiah Livsey scored on a pair of touchdown runs Friday night as the Wildcats blanked the visiting Eagles 34-0. Woodland scored all 34 points in the first half. Quarterback Brelace Williams tossed a touchdown pass to Jay Walker and defensive lineman Kwadrus Wilson returned a fumble for a touchdown for the second week in a row as the Wildcats built an early 21-0 lead. The game will be broadcast on BartowSportsZone.com with pregame coverage scheduled for 6 p.m. CARTERSVILLE 38, JONESBORO 16 After posting only three points in the first quarter Friday night on a 22-yard Jesus Gutierrez field goal, Cartersville scored on all four second quarter possessions to build a 31-0 halftime lead over the Cardinals. Canes’ quarterback Paul Gamble tossed second quarter touchdown passes to Ja’mauri Brice, Romo Pace (52-yards), and Collin Fletcher (32-yards). He also scored on a two-yard keeper as the No. 1-ranked Hurricanes took control. Luke McBride also scored a touchdown for Cartersville on a two-yard run putting the Canes up 38-0. Jonesboro added two touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions in the second half on an 18-yard touchdown run and an interception returned for a touchdown. Gamble, who was 6-for-9 passing also rushed for 55 yards. Kristian Lando (34 yards), McBride (50 yards), and Jachai Delgado (31 yards) contributed to the Hurricanes’ 178 rushing yards. Next for Cartersville (2-0) is a road test at Allatoona next Friday at 7:30 p.m. ADAIRSVILLE 51, CHEROKEE BLUFF 50 (OVERTIME) The Tigers opened the 2022 season with a thrilling 51-50 overtime win Friday night over visiting Cherokee Bluff. The deciding points came on a courageous two-point conversion play that sealed the opening win for Adairsville and new head coach Jon Cudd. The Bears and Tigers traded scores much of the night with Adairsville leading 28-16 at the end of the first quarter. Cherokee Bluff scored on an intercpetion return for a touchdown in the second quarter to make the score 28-23 at halftime. Following a scoreless third quarter, the Bears grabbed a 29-28 lead with a short rushing touchdown with just over five minutes remaining in the game. Adairsville quarterback Jonathan Gough responded on the Tigers next possession with a 76-yard touchdown pass. Chris Roper then tossed a two-point conversion pass to Charlie Ray as Adairsville took a 36-29 lead. Perry Haynes broke loose for a 76-yard touchdown run for the Bears with approximately four minutes remaining. The PAT kick tied the score at 36-all. At about the two minute mark, Caden Copeland put the Tigers up again with a 76 yard touchdown scamper. Cooper Souders PAT kick gave Adairsville a 43-36 lead. The Bears answered in the final minutes to send the game into overtime. Max Eubanks hauled in a 65-yard touchdown pass and the PAT kick knotted the score again at 43-all. In overtime, the Cherokee Bluff quarterback scored on a two-yard run and kicker Michael Arbour made the point after for a 50-43 Bears advantage. Adairsville answered again however. Chris Roper scored on the Tigers’ overtime possession with a 15-yard run and that set up the game winning two point conversion — also a run by Roper. The Tigers (1-0) travel to Rabun County Friday, September 2 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. ROCKMART 30, CASS 21 Trailing 27-21 at home in the fourth quarter Friday night, the Colonels reached the red zone but could not capitalize in an eventual nine point loss to Rockmart. After stopping Cass, Rockmart’s Lanear McCrary broke loose on a 78-yard run deep into Colonels’ territory to set up a 33 yard field goal by Jose Alegria that sealed the Yellow Jackets 30-21 win. Dennis Sims scored two touchdowns for Rockmart. The first was a 95-yard opening kickoff return and the other was a 62-yard pass reception from J.D. Davis. Cam Ferguson had a two-yard touchdown plunge late in the first quarter that gave the Jackets a 13-7 lead and McCrary scored on a 23-yard run midway through the second quarter as Rockmart built a 27-14 halftime lead. Devin Henderson, who started at quarterback, scored on a two-yard keeper in the first quarter to make the score 7-7. Following a long kickoff return by Sacovie White to the Rockmart 23 yard line, Cass went ahead 14-13 on an 11-yard touchdown run by Mac Nelson. Coach Steve Gates inserted freshman quarterback Brodie McWhorter in the second half and he responded with the first touchdown pass of his high school career. With 7:06 to go in the third quarter, McWhorter found White on a crossing route and the junior receiver weaved his way into the end zone. That narrowed Rockmart’s lead to 27-21. The Colonels had opportunities in the final 18 minutes, but failed to score again. Rockmart, ranked No. 6 in Class 2A, improved to 1-1. Cass (0-2) hosts Drew next Friday in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Woodland and Dalton needed nine innings Thursday night in Whitfield County to decide their Region 7-5A tilt. The two teams were tied 3-3 through the regulation seven frames before trading two runs each in the eighth inning. Woodland added two more in the top of the ninth and escaped with a one-run win although Dalton got the potential tying run to third base. Peyton Dorn (2 IP, 3ER, 4H, 1BB) picked up the pitching win for the Lady Cats in relief of starter Haley Collum (6 IP, 3ER, 5H, 1BB, 3K). Ashlyn Baines (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 1K) earned a one-inning save. Sophomore Jordan Hammonds had four hits to pace the Woodland offense. Freshman third baseman Kamryn Smith had three hits and three RBIs that included a dramatic two-run home run in the eighth inning. Her single in the top of the ninth drove in the Wildcats’ crucial seventh run. Dorn (double, RBI), Collum (RBI), and Mackenzie Araya finished with one hit each. Cambrie Carrington added one RBI. The loss dropped the Catamounts to 1-6 on the season and 0-4 in region play. Woodland (6-5, 3-1) hosts Cass Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. Ringgold takes battle of Tigers at Adairsville, 6-5 Ringgold scored all six of its runs in the first two innings Thursday then held on to win at Adairsville, 6-5. Ringgold scored twice in the top of the first inning and added a four-run second inning in the win. Adairsville narrowed the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the second and scored two more times in the fourth inning, but could do no more damage. Megan Gregory (6.2 IP, 4ER, 7H, 4BB, 8K) was saddled with the pitching loss for Adairsville. Jordan Clay (0.1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 2BB, 1K) retired the final out in the seventh inning. Brie Patterson had two hits with two RBIs for the locals. Halle Chason tripled and drove in a pair of runs. Annalee Morris contributed a double. Chelsea Bates and Alissa Winters added one hit apiece for Adairsville. Ringgold improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Region 6-AAA. Adairsville (5-5-1, 1-2) entertains Ridgeland in another region game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
