March 12, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Adairsville Lady Tigers put on a commanding offensive display Thursday night at home, overwhelming the LaFayette Lady Ramblers with a convincing 7-1 victory in Region 7-AAA action. Leading the charge was senior forward Alexa Damer, who delivered an electrifying performance with five goals to lead the Tigers' attack. The scoring started early as Damer struck in the 3rd minute, finishing off an assist from Braylynn Martin to give Adairsville a quick 1-0 lead. Damer added her second in the 16th minute on a well-placed direct kick. Addi Jerauld joined the party in the 31st minute with her own direct-kick goal, and Damer completed her first-half hat trick in the 40th minute off an assist from Ella Edwards. The Lady Tigers carried a 4-0 advantage into halftime. LaFayette managed to break through in the 54th minute, scoring to make it 4-1. The goal marked the first time this season that a region opponent has found the back of the net against Adairsville's defense. The Tigers responded with authority in the second half. Damer notched her fourth goal in the 64th minute on an assist from Alivia Joslin, then completed her five-goal night in the 73rd minute with help from Ryleigh Parker. Just moments later, Ella Edwards capped the scoring in the 73rd minute off an assist from Leyla Gomez-Perez. Adairsville head coach Dave Sexauer praised his star performer afterward. “Alexa Damer was electric tonight with her five goals,” Sexauer said. “They had no answer for her speed and power. Bethany Kilgore had some nice saves in goal, and our defensive backs played well.” The Lady Tigers also honored their six seniors during the evening. With the win, Adairsville improves to 8-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in Region 7-AAA. LaFayette falls to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the region. The Lady Tigers return to action next Tuesday when they host Gilmer.

Gilmer led 1-0 through the first four innings, but Adairsville scored four times in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead for good. The Bobcats added a run in the sixth, and the Tigers scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Hudson Parr collected the pitching victory for Adairsville with a seven-inning, complete-game performance. He allowed two earned runs on three hits and five walks while striking out seven. Brody Varner and Westin Barfield each had one hit and two RBI for the Tigers. Tyler Parker (double) and Harrison Cole had the other Adairsville base hits. McCayden Hufstetler outdueled Cooper Cochran of Gilmer by tossing a complete-game two-hitter. He gave up one earned run, walked two, and struck out six to earn the pitching win. Adairsville scored first in the bottom of the second inning. Gilmer tied the game in the top of the third, and the Tigers pushed across the deciding run in the fourth on a Bobcats’ defensive miscue. Westin Barfield had two hits for the Tigers. Harrison Cole, Hudson Parr, Matthew Cook, Evan Hardin, and Hufstetler (RBI) contributed one hit each. Gilmer (5-7, 1-3) will host Adairsville (10-4, 2-2) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The two teams will conclude the region three-game series on Friday at 5:30 p.m. back at Adairsville. WOODLAND 14, SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 0 Woodland starting pitcher Clayton Wilkes tossed a four-inning one-hitter on Wednesday, and the Wildcats blasted visiting Southeast Whitfield 14-0. Woodland scored five runs in the second inning and posted nine in the fourth to close out a five-inning, run-rule victory. The only base hit for the Raiders off Wilkes was a third-inning single with two outs. He issued four walks and struck out seven. Preston Sorrells had three hits and three RBI for the Wildcats. Cartersville High golfer Bodie Brumlow won the boys’ division of the Georgia State Golf Association High School Preview Tournament held Monday and Tuesday at the Country Club of Columbus. Brumlow fired rounds of 69 and 71 in the two-day event and won the individual title in a playoff over Asher Sisk of Johns Creek High School. Mackinnley Yarbrough of Carrollton shot 71-74 to place third. In the team competition, the Canes shot 20-over and finished co-runner-up to Johns Creek (12-over par). Lake Oconee Academy also shot 20-over. Rivers Academy of Alpharetta placed fourth at 21-over par, and Carrollton rounded out the top five at 22-over par in the 12-team event. The three other individuals representing Cartersville were Reid Henson (79-73), Carsen Stanfield (77-77), and Carter Rice (86-81). Rivers Academy won the girls’ title with a 3-over par performance in the 36-hole event. Holy Innocents Episcopal was a distant runner-up at 19-over par. Kailyn Black of Rivers Academy won the individual championship with rounds of 71-69. Molly Spector of Holy Innocents and Rebecca Lee of Rivers Academy tied for second at 5-over par.

In the opener, Gordon State scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning for a come-from-behind 7-5 win.  The Chargers bounced back in the second game for a 15-8 win after scoring 14 runs in the first three innings. Matthew Perkins picked up the pitching win for GHC in the second game. He went five innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while fanning four. Sam Clower (0.1 IP, 1ER, 2H) and Heath Whitlock (1.2 IP, 2R, 0ER, 2H, 1BB, 2K) pitched in relief for the Chargers. Jack Burns (0.2 IP, 3ER, 4H) was charged with the pitching loss in Game 1. David McKechnie (5.1 IP, 4R, 2ER, 7H, 1BB, 6K) made the start for Georgia Highlands and worked into the sixth inning. Wyatt Gatlin (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB) pitched a scoreless seventh inning.  Aidan Larkin led the Chargers’ hitting attack in the doubleheader with four hits, including one home run, two doubles, one sacrifice fly, and two RBI. Carson Page had a three-hit day with a homer, a triple, and three RBI. Hayden Miller also had three hits, including a double and two RBI. Andrew Bishop homered twice for GHC and added a sacrifice fly to total six RBI on the day. Caden Marcos also homered twice and had three RBI. The teams battled to a scoreless deadlock at halftime, with both defenses holding firm in a tightly contested first 40 minutes. The breakthrough came early in the second half when Alexa Damer stepped up and calmly converted a penalty kick in the 45th minute to give Adairsville a 1-0 lead. The Lady Tigers sealed the victory in the 74th minute as Ella Edwards finished off a well-worked play, slotting home the insurance goal off a precise assist from Braylynn Martin. Adairsville's back line stood tall throughout, highlighted by standout defensive work from Piper Tordrup. “Piper Tordrup made a tremendous play that stopped a Calhoun attack,” said Adairsville head coach Dave Sexauer. “She was able to win the ball in her one-on-one matchup and get the ball going back up the field. She also made several other incredible defensive plays. Her play tonight was key to the win.” In goal, Bethany Kilgore was sharp when called upon, making an impressive save that helped preserve the clean sheet and the shutout victory. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. LADY COLONELS WIN AT HIRAM IN PK SHOOTOUT The Cass Lady Colonels earned a gritty road victory over the host Hiram Lady Hornets on Tuesday night in Paulding County, prevailing 3-2 on penalty kicks after a hard-fought 1-1 draw through regulation and two extra-time periods. Both teams' goalkeepers dominated a scoreless first half, turning away quality chances and keeping the match tightly contested. The Lady Colonels broke through just after halftime when Nat Hughes finished clinically in the 44th minute, converting an assist from Ryland Piatt to give Cass a 1-0 lead. Hiram responded soon after, equalizing in the 59th minute to knot the score at 1-1. Neither side could find a winner in the remaining regulation time or the two 10-minute overtime periods, sending the Region 7-AAAA matchup to a PK shootout. In the shootout, Cass held their nerve. Zoe Bailey, Jillian Silva, and Layla Allgood all converted their attempts, securing the 3-2 win on kicks from the spot. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. LADY CANES WIN AT DALTON The Cartersville Lady Canes opened the scoring early and held on for a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Dalton Lady Catamounts at Harmon Stadium. Cartersville wasted little time asserting control. Just ten minutes into regulation, sophomore MaryBeth Hackney unleashed a powerful shot from just inside the 18-yard box to give the Lady Canes a 1-0 lead. The Hurricanes doubled their advantage before halftime thanks to crisp team play. Sophomore Scout Hullander delivered a well-placed assist, and senior Lundyn Eubanks finished to make it 2-0 heading into the break. Dalton refused to go quietly and narrowed the margin to 2-1 late in the second half. However, the Lady Canes' back line stood tall. Junior center back Layla Morgan and freshman Sofia Mayorga anchored the defense, repeatedly thwarting Dalton's advances. The Lady Canes (4-4, 2-1) will host the Cedartown Lady Bulldogs on Friday, with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ALLATOONA 4, WOODLAND BOYS 0 The Allatoona Buccaneers used a balanced attack and a stout defensive effort to shut out the Woodland Wildcats 4-0 in a Region 7-AAAA boys soccer matchup Tuesday night. Allatoona controlled the game from start to finish, building a 1-0 halftime lead before pulling away in the second half with three more goals. The Buccaneers struck first in the 36th minute to take a 1-0 advantage into the break. They doubled their lead just four minutes into the second half when they converted a penalty kick in the 44th minute. Allatoona kept the pressure on, adding a third goal in the 48th minute and sealing the victory with a fourth tally in the 55th minute. The Buccaneers' offense generated consistent chances, while their back line and goalkeeper limited Woodland to minimal threats. Woodland goalkeeper Pedro Mendez made one save in his time between the posts, while Seth Goodall finished with four saves in relief. With the win, Allatoona improves to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in Region 7-AAAA play. The Buccaneers have started region competition with three straight shutout victories. Dalton (8-0 overall, 3-0 in region) continued to showcase themselves as one of the top teams in Class AAAA. The Purple Hurricanes (3-5 overall, 0-3 in Region 7-AAAA) will look to snap its region skid when it returns to action Friday night, hosting Cedartown with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. HIRAM 2, CASS BOYS 1 The Cass Colonels battled hard but came up just short in a tightly contested Region 7-AAAA matchup, dropping a 2-1 road decision to the Hiram Hornets on Tuesday night. Cass controlled the first half and carried a 1-0 lead into the break. The Colonels struck early when Anthony Diaz found the back of the net, finishing off a crisp assist from Tabo Mwandu.  Hiram took control in the second half and leveled the score in the 60th minute, knotting things at 1-1. Cartersville Hurricanes’ pitchers Nate Russell and Collier Jordan combined for seven strikeouts Tuesday evening and limited the Cass Colonels to only two hits in an 11-0 shutout in six innings at the Cass Athletic Complex. Russell made the start and fanned six, yielding just one hit and five walks in the first five frames. Jordan allowed one hit and one walk with one strikeout in the sixth. The Canes’ bats broke the game open in the top of the third inning with a six-run surge that included a three-run, two-out triple by David Vargas. Cartersville had three other hits in the inning, plus two walks, a hit batsman, and a sacrifice fly to build a 7-0 advantage.
