Mason Barnett was recently traded from the Kansas City Royals organization to the Oakland A's organization.

Former Cartersville High School and Auburn University pitcher, Mason Barnett, was recently traded from the Kansas City Royals organization to the Oakland A’s organization but remain in the same Double-A league. Barnett moves from the Northwest Arkansas Naturals to the Midland Rockhounds in the Texas League.


Meanwhile, this week’s update includes the two other former Canes and their MiLB action this past week plus results for former Woodland High hurler, Kenny Jinks, who has signed a professional contract with the Independent Pioneer League’s Missoula Paddleheads in Missoula, Montana.

MASON BARNETT — Midland RockHounds (3rd-yr. pro; Oakland A’s Double-A affiliate; Texas League; Auburn; Cartersville HS) … ranked as the Kansas City Royals No. 4 prospect by MLB Pipeline and 11th by Baseball America, the 23-year-old right-hand pitcher was traded this past week to the Oakland A’s organization. Barnett was part of a deal that sent Oakland’s set-up man, Lucas Erceg, to Kansas City. Barnett had a 4.91 ERA in 91-⅔ innings with 109 strikeouts this season with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals before the trade. In his first pitching start for Midland this past Saturday, he allowed a solo home run, two hits, two walks, and hit one batter en route to his sixth win of the season. He fanned six of the 20 batters he faced as the RockHounds won at the Arkansas Travelers, 5-1. Midland (60-42 overall) is 20-13 in the Texas League’s second-half race and is tied for first place in the South Division. The ‘Hounds host the co-division-leading Frisco RoughRiders this week for six games.



LOGAN MARTIN — Columbia Fireflies (2nd-yr. pro; Kansas City Royals Single-A affiliate; Carolina League; Kentucky; Cartersville HS) … appeared in relief this past weekend in a game that started on Saturday and was suspended to be completed on Sunday. Martin entered in the second inning and worked 4-⅓ innings on the mound with no decision in an eventual 13-12 loss at the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. The righty allowed three earned runs (four total) on five hits and one walk while striking out six. For the season, the 23-year-old has a 2-3 record in 19 appearances covering 75 innings. He has made a dozen starts and has three saves in relief appearances. His season WHIP is 1.23 and he has 75 strikeouts. Columbia (54-46 overall) is 18-16 in the Carolina League's second-half standings and second place in the South Division. The Fireflies host six games this week with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers.



ANTHONY SEIGLER — Somerset Patriots (7th-yr. pro; NY Yankees Double-A affiliate; Eastern League; Cartersville HS) … appeared in five games last week at the Bowie Baysox as the Patriots went 4-2 in six games. Seigler hit solo home runs last Tuesday and Saturday — his eighth and ninth of the season — and was 4-for-15 at the plate in the series. He walked four times and scored four runs during the week. The 25-year-old has a .210 batting average with nine homers and 33 RBI in 257 official at-bats in 2024. Somerset (52-50 overall) is 20-13 in the Eastern League’s second-half race and trails Portland by one game in the standings. The Patriots host six games with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. 




INDEPENDENT PIONEER LEAGUE BASEBALL



KENNY JINKS — Missoula Paddleheads (1st-yr. pro; Independent Pioneer League; Wheeling University; Woodland HS) … made home pitching starts July 19 against the Glacier Range Riders, July 28 against the Billings Mustangs, and this past Saturday against the Great Falls Voyagers but has yet to receive a pitching decision. The three starts by the lefty have covered a total of nine innings. He has allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits and eight walks for a 7.00 ERA. Missoula is 12-5 in the Pioneer League’s second-half schedule and trails the Boise Hawks by two games. The Paddleheads (49-16 overall) won the first half race with a 37-11 mark. Missoula plays six games this week at the Glacier Range Riders.
