Cartersville Little League baseball 11U and 10U teams win District 1 championships, advance to state

The Cartersville Little League 11U (9-11 year olds) baseball team won the Georgia District 1 championship this past Friday and Saturday at Hicks Park by sweeping a best-of-three series with Bartow County 11U.


Cartersville 11U won 11-1 on Friday night and closed out the District series on Saturday with a 5-0 victory.


Cartersville pitchers Will Porter and Wheeler Arthur combined for 10 strikeouts and allowed only one hit in Friday’s win. Tripp Walker fanned 10 on Saturday across five innings of work. Fin Rogan struck out the side to complete Saturday’s shutout.


Jaxon Martin (triple, double) and Jonah Holder (RBI) had three hits for Cartersville 11U in the series. Will Moore (sac fly, three RBI) and Arthur (RBI) each contributed two hits. Walker (double, sac fly, three RBI), Camaro Geldhauser (double, RBI), Porter (double), Caleb Cox (four RBI), and Brayden Taylor (RBI) each had one hit. Brantley Brossett added one RBI.


Ladry Elrod (double) and Jaxon Minnick had Bartow 11Us hits in the series.


Cartersville 11U advances to the Georgia Little League 9-11 State Tournament that begins July 11 at Toccoa Little League.



The Cartersville Little League 11U roster includes: Wheeler Arthur, Brantley Brossett, Caleb Cox, Camaro Geldhauser, Jonah Holder, Jaxon Martin, Will Moore, Will Porter, Fin Rogan, Hudson Russell, Brayden Taylor, and Tripp Walker. Manager: Blake Arthur. Coaches: Derek Geldhauser and Chad Walker.



CARTERSVILLE LITTLE LEAGUE 10U ADVANCES TO STATE TOURNAMENT


The Cartersville Little League 10U (8-10 year olds) baseball team won the Georgia District 1 championship this past Friday through Sunday on Rudy York Field at Hicks Park by winning three straight games in the four-team double-elimination tournament.


Cartersville 10U dominated in all three victories, winning 23-3 over Cedartown on Friday, 20-2 over Rockmart on Saturday, and topping Bartow County 11-1 in the championship game on Sunday. 


Beckett Philliber struck out five and did not allow an earned run in three innings on the mound in Cartersville 10Us opening win. Wyatt Clayton worked 2-1/3 innings and had one strikeout without yielding an earned run in the win over Rockmart, and two pitchers — Lucas Penland (three innings) and Brantley Tilley (one inning) — each had one strikeout in the championship game.


Clayton (triple, double, seven RBI) led the Cartersville 10U bats in the tournament with six hits. Marshall Pressley (three RBI) followed with four hits. Jack Burris (two RBI) had three hits. Jett Nichols (double, four RBI) and Lambo Geldhauser (two RBI) contributed two hits. Ryan Perez (RBI), Bode Mathis (RBI), and Cort Wolff (RBI) added one hit. Tilley (sac fly, four RBI), Penland (three RBI), and Philliber (RBI) drove in runs.


Bartow County 10U went 2-2 in the tournament to finish as runner-up.  Bartow lost its opening game to Rockmart 10-9, but defeated Cedartown 6-4 and Rockmart 13-9 in elimination games to reach the championship round against Cartersville.


Rhett Adams led the Bartow 10U bats in the tournament with six hits, including one home run and four RBI. Grayson Neighbors (triple, eight RBI) and Gamble Mealer (double) each produced five hits. Benton Owen (two RBI) and Maddox Whittle (two RBI) both had four hits. Everett Neighbors (triple, double) and Jett Thompson contributed three hits. Mason Brookshire (double, three RBI), Asher Hooper (three RBI), and Wyatt Huskins each had two hits, and Chapman Perry added one hit and one RBI.


Cartersville 10U advances to the seven-team, double-elimination Georgia Little League 10U State Tournament at Bogart Sports Complex starting July 18, hosted by Oconee County Little League.
