Chargers sweep doubleheader with Hawks, extend conference lead

The Georgia Highlands bats exploded for 36 hits and 33 runs on Saturday to win both games of a home conference doubleheader with the South Georgia State Hawks. The Chargers, who have built a five-game lead in the conference standings, won the first game 20-2 and took the second game 13-3.
In the first game, thirteen of the Chargers' hits were extra-base hits, including seven home runs. In Game 2, GHC contributed seven additional extra-base hits, with three of them being home runs.
Kaiden Krak (6 IP, 2ER, 3H, 5BB, 6K) started the opener on the mound and collected the pitching victory. Sam Clower (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 1K) closed out the seventh inning. Matthew Perkins (4 IP, 2ER, 7H, 0BB, 7K) was the winning pitcher in Saturday’s second game. Reed Thursby (3 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 5K) wrapped up the fifth through seventh innings.
Andrew Bishop (three home runs, six RBI) and Carson Page (two doubles, three RBI) led the Georgia Highlands offense with five hits in the doubleheader. Kenton Collier (three home runs, sac fly, four RBI), Aidan Larkin (three home runs, double, five RBI), and Mason Moore (home run, four RBI) each produced four hits on the day. Wyatt Gatlin (two doubles, two RBI), Hayden Miller (three doubles, three RBI), Caden Marcos (double, three RBI), and Emiliano Dominguez (home run, three RBI) finished the day with three hits.
South Georgia State slipped to 24-18 overall and 6-8 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Chargers (33-9, 13-2) will host the Gordon College Highlanders on Tuesday at 2 p.m. to kick off a four-game, home-and-home series. The remaining three games will take place in Barnsville, featuring a single game on Thursday and a doubleheader on Saturday.
