The Adairsville Tigers put together their most complete performance of the season, rolling to a 7-2 victory over the host Bowdon Red Devils on Friday night.
Adairsville jumped out to a commanding lead early, scoring four goals in the first half to take a 4-0 advantage into halftime. The Tigers added three more in the second half to cruise to the win.
Micah Pittman opened the scoring in the 13th minute off an assist from Greg Munoz. Jose Lupian made it 2-0 in the 25th minute with Angel Hernandez picking up the assist. Cooper Souders pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 31st minute on a feed from Jake Barszcz, and Greg Munoz converted a penalty kick in the 40th minute to cap the first-half barrage.
Lupian added his second goal of the night in the 54th minute, assisted by Hayden Barnes. Axel Almanza-Partida found the net in the 68th minute with another assist from Hernandez, and Ismael Garcia rounded out the scoring for Adairsville in the 72nd minute off a pass from Moonan Poach.
Bowdon scored twice late — once in the 64th minute and again in the 74th minute — but could not mount a serious comeback.
Adairsville goalkeeper Charlie Potter was outstanding, turning aside 15 shots to preserve the victory.
“We are starting to develop team chemistry as our experience level grows,” said Adairsville coach John Terrell. “Tonight was the most complete game we have played. These guys have started to develop confidence, and are making unselfish plays.”The win improved Adairsville to 2-10 on the season, marking their second straight victory. The loss dropped Bowdon to 0-7.
The Tigers will look to keep the momentum going when they travel to Murray County on Tuesday.
LADY TIGERS FALL TO CLASS AAAA ALLATOONA
The Adairsville Lady Tigers soccer team stepped up in classification Thursday night at Tigers’ Stadium, but lost a non-region match to the Class AAAA Allatoona Lady Buccaneers, 5-0.
Allatoona, the Region 7-AAAA regular season champs, was a tough challenge for Adairsville and controlled the contest from the opening whistle. The Lady Bucs converted their early pressure into goals and built a 3-0 advantage at the intermission.
The second half saw Allatoona (8-3) convert two more scoring opportunities to seal the decisive victory.
“We got a taste of a playoff-caliber team tonight,” Coach Dave Sexauer said afterward. “We closed out the night with key takeaways as we continue preparing for the playoffs, focusing on speed and quick decisions.”
The Lady Tigers (11-2) now turn their attention to another non-region match in their state playoff preparations. Adairsville travels to Murray County on Tuesday.
