Tuesday hoops roundup: Cass teams power past Woodland

Keara McDaniel was one of four Lady Colonels with double-figures in scoring as Cass defeated Woodland 75-46 and improved to 18-0 this season.

The 7-AAAAA leading Cass girls and boys basketball teams both won region home games Tuesday night over county rival Woodland in going-away fashion. The 4th-ranked Lady Colonels disposed of the Lady Cats 75-46 and the 9th-ranked Colonels eased by the Wildcats, 79-31. In other local action Tuesday, the Adairsville girls fell to 3rd ranked Coahulla Creek; both Cartersville teams dropped home region games to Hiram; and the Excel Christian boys fell to 7th-ranked Christian Heritage.


CASS GIRLS 75, WOODLAND 46

The 4th-ranked Lady Colonels were quick out of the gate Tuesday night and led 26-7 after just one quarter on their way to a 41-18 halftime lead and an eventual 29-point home win over Woodland, 75-46.

Claire Davis led Cass with 20 points. Haley Johnson followed with 15. Keara McDaniel and Londaisha Smith added 11 each for the Lady Colonels. Jordan Thompson paced the Lady Cats with 11 points. Ansley Evans and Gracie Styles scored eight each for Woodland. With the loss, the Lady Cats slipped to 2-12 on the season and 1-3 in Region 7-AAAAA. Woodland plays at Calhoun next Tuesday at 6 p.m. Cass (18-0, 5-0) plays at Cartersville Friday at 6 p.m.


CASS BOYS 79, WOODLAND 31

The Colonels outscored visiting Woodland 27-4 in the second quarter Tuesday night to take a 46-19 lead at halftime and cruised to a 79-31 region victory. C.J. Pipkin had a game-high 22 points to lead the Cass offense. Andrew Glaze scored 11 points and Zaylan Chaney chipped in with 10. K.J. Rogers led Woodland with 12 points. Tyler Thurman finished with six for the Wildcats.

Woodland (2-16, 0-5) hosts Bremen Saturday night at 6 p.m. in a non-region contest. Cass (15-5, 5-1) makes the short trip to Cartersville Friday night for an 8 p.m. start.


COAHULLA CREEK 81, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 35

The 3rd-ranked Lady Colts led visiting Adairsville 22-5 after one quarter; 42-18 at halftime; and 59-25 through three quarters on their way to an 81-35 Region 6-AAA win.

Coahulla Creek (16-2, 10-2) had four players reach double figures with Brinkley Reed leading the way with 21 points. Jillian Poe scored 16. Kenley Woods posted 14 points and Katelyn Richards finished with 13.

Lexie Childers led Adairsville with eight points. Alyssa Jarrett followed with six.

Adairsville (5-14, 2-9) hosts Murray County Friday night at 7 p.m.

CHRISTIAN HERITAGE 79, EXCEL CHRISTIAN BOYS 41

The host Lions outscored Excel 18-5 in the second quarter Tuesday night to take a 33-16 lead at halftime and continued to pull away in the second half for a 79-41 Region 7-A Private win.

Jax Abernathy and Nash Bingham led Christian Heritage (14-2, 4-0) with 19 and 17 points, respectively.

Jakaden Barkley led the Eagles with 15 points. Blake Bailey score 10 for ECA.

Excel (7-10, 0-4) has region road games at North Cobb Christian Friday night at 7 p.m. and at Walker Saturday at 5:30 p.m.


HIRAM 63, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 30

The Hiram girls built a 40-10 lead by halftime and never looked back in a 63-30 Region 7-AAAAA win Tuesday night at Cartersville.

Imani Smith and Jen Mackey led the Lady Hornets with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Hiram improved to 10-3 on the year and 3-1 in region play.

Lehla Thomas led the Lady Canes with 10 points and six rebounds. Ansley Griffen scored six points. Kierra Milline had four points and four assists while Sequoyah McConnell also added four points for Cartersville.

The Lady Canes (4-10, 0-5) host Cass Friday at 6 p.m. in The Storm Center.


HIRAM 57, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 52

The Cartersville boys challenged in the second half Tuesday night, but couldn’t overcome a 17-point halftime deficit in a 57-52 loss to visiting Hiram.

Hiram led 19-15 after one quarter; 37-20 at the intermission; and 49-41 through three quarters.

Jordan Gary led the Hornets with 20 points Jayden Whitaker scored 10 for Hiram (9-7, 4-1). Kam Callahan scored 18 points for the Canes. Kolbe Benham was next with 13 points. Robert Novak added nine.

Cartersville (6-7, 1-4) hosts Cass Friday at 8 p.m. and travels to Model Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. start.
