- Bartow County Junior Little League team reaches state finals with blowout win
Bartow County Junior Little League baseball pounded Athens Tuesday night 23-1 in five innings to advance to the state championship round of the state Junior Little League state tournament in Hartwell. Bartow, now 3-0 in the double-elimination tournament, will have Wednesday night off before playing Thursday night against the survivor of a Wednesday night Elbert County vs. Athens elimination game. Elbert County defeated Hart County 13-8 Tuesday night following Bartow's win over Athens. That leaves Elbert County and Athens to square off in an elimination game Wednesday night with the survivor moving into the championship round against Bartow County on Thursday evening. Bartow claims the state title with a victory on Thursday night, but the Elbert County/Athens survivor will need to beat Bartow both Thursday and Friday nights to win the championship. The Thursday and potential Friday night games are scheduled for 6 p.m. in Hartwell. In Tuesday’s win over Athens, Hudson Parr tossed a five inning complete game. He scattered five hits and three walks while striking out three. The lone Athens run scored in the third inning after the locals had built an 11-0 lead. Bartow scored in each offensive frame including two runs in the first inning, five in the second, four in the third, one in the fourth, and 11 runs in the fifth inning. Barrett Fuller and Elisha Moore paced the Bartow offense with three hits each. Dutch Hernandez, Landon Cassidy, and Parr followed with two hits each. Rylan Spivey, Harrison Cole, Isaac Burnett, Lyle Woody, and Zaylan Cochran added one hit apiece. Cartersville products Anthony Seigler (left) and Sam Howard continue to toil in MiLB action with their respective clubs. Last Friday night, Howard made his first appearance with Toledo since July 1 and earned a hold in a Mud Hens victory. In New York, Seigler appeared in four games for Hudson Valley as the Renegades have surged into first place in the second half standings of the South Atlantic League’s North Division. SAM HOWARD — Toledo Mud Hens (9th yr. pro; Triple-A Detroit Tigers organization; Georgia Southern; Cartersville HS) … made his first appearance since July 1 Friday night and earned a one-inning hold as the Mud Hens won at the St. Paul Saints, 7-3. The southpaw worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to collect his third hold of the season. In 18 appearances in 2022 with three diffferent MiLB teams — Bradenton, Indianapolis, and Toledo — the 29-year-old has an 0-2 record with a 3.24 ERA. He has 22 strikeouts and 11 walks with a 1.26 WHIP. The Mud Hens (45-43) are 8.5 games behind Nashville in the International League’s West Division. Toledo will host the Columbus Clippers July 22-24 followed by Indianapolis July 26-31. ANTHONY SEIGLER — Hudson Valley Renegades (5th yr. pro; High Class-A New York Yankees organization; Cartersville HS) … in four home games this past week against the Greenville Drive, Seigler was 3-for-14 at the plate including a double. He scored two runs and added one stolen base. Hudson Valley (47-39 overall) is 13-7 in the second half standings and leads Aberdeen by 2.5 games in the South Atlantic League’s North Division. The Renegades are off until Friday, July 22 when they travel to the Wilmington Blue Rocks to begin a three game series.
- Bartow County Junior Little League team improves to 2-0 at state tournament
The Bartow County Junior Little League baseball team (13-14 year olds) won its second round game Sunday afternoon at the double-elimination state tournament in Hartwell, defeating Elbert County 15-4 in five innings. The victory earns Bartow County (2-0) an off day Monday and guarantees the team no worse than third place. The locals will use the off day to prepare for a third round matchup against Athens (2-0) Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Sunday, Bartow struck for three runs in the first inning and three more in the second inning for an early 6-0 lead. The local team added five more runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth on their way to victory. All four Elbert County runs were scored in the fifth inning. Isaac Burnett started on the mound for Bartow County and worked into the fourth inning without yielding a run. He scattered two hits and two walks while striking out two. Harrison Cole pitched in relief and also struck out two. Burnett paced the offense with three hits. Landon Cassidy followed with a pair of hits. Elisha Moore and Hudson Parr had doubles. Dutch Hernandez and Cole added one hit apiece. In Sunday’s other Junior Little League state tournament game in Hartwell, Athens defeated Hart County 16-4. - Late rally not enough, Bartow County Little League drops second round game at state tourney
Bartow County Little League (12U) made a late inning charge but came up a pair of runs short Sunday afternoon in an 8-6 state tournament second round loss to Harris County Little League at Hicks Park in Cartersville. Harris County scored five runs in the top of the first inning and added on three more in the fourth inning for an 8-1 lead. Bartow then rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth but could get no closer. Five of Bartow’s six hits in the game came in their fifth inning rally. Huck Garlin (2 RBIs) and Alfredo Romo had doubles. Noah Rogers (RBI), Elijah Bryant, Noah Janssen, and Matt Zander added one hit apiece. Blaine Groce contributed one RBI. Romo (0.0 IP, 3R, 2ER, 0H, 2BB) made the pitching start for Bartow County and suffered the loss. Bryant (5.1 IP, 6ER, 10H, 3BB) entered in the first inning a worked into the sixth. Cade McCorkle (0.2 IP, 0R, 1H) closed out the game for the locals. With the win, Harris County is now one of two remaining unbeaten teams in the double-elimination state tournament. Harris will have Monday night off and will play Dudley Little League Tuesday. The loss drops Bartow County to an elimination game Monday night at 8 p.m. against Peachtree City Little League on Rudy York Field. In other results Sunday, Dudley defeated Martinez-Evans 18-7. The Bartow County Junior Little League baseball team (13-14 year olds) won its opening game of the 2022 state tournament Saturday 15-1 over West Point in five innings. The tournament is being hosted by Hart County Little League. Bartow scored twice in the top of the first inning and never trailed. West Point scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning, but never got any closer. Bartow County, who scored in every offensive frame, led 6-1 after three innings and took control by scoring seven times in the top of the fourth. Hudson Parr had two hits for the Bartow offense and picked up the pitching win for the locals. Dutch Hernandez and Elisha Moore also contributed two hits each and both took the mound in relief. Isaac Burnett, Zaylen Cochran, and Bryland Reynolds each had a double for the Bartow attack. Lyle Woody and Landon Cassidy added one hit apiece. Bartow County advances to the second round of the six-team, double-elimination tournament and will face Elbert County Junior Little League at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The tournament is scheduled to continue through Friday with the state champion advancing to the Junior Little League Southeast Regional in Broadway, Virginia August 4-9. - Bartow County Little League tops Smyrna 3-1 to win first round game at state tourney
Bartow County Little League (12U) gave up a run in the third inning Saturday morning before scoring three times in the bottom of the fourth for an eventual 3-1 win over Smyrna Little League in the opening round of the 2022 Georgia Little League Baseball State Tournament at Hicks Park in Cartersville. Smyrna scored its unearned run in the third inning on a single, a groundout, and an infield error. After that run gave Smyrna a 1-0 lead, Bartow pitchers Blaine Groce, Grayson Isham, and Matt Zander blanked Smyrna over the final 3-1/3 innings. The trio of hurlers allowed only one hit and two walks. Groce was the starter and completed the first three innings on the mound. He allowed one unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out six. Isham recorded three strikeouts over the next inning and one-third before Zander retired all five batters he faced — four by strikeout. Bartow’s three runs in the fourth inning scored on a single, two walks, a fielder’s choice, a wild pitch, and a passed ball. Groce, who had one of Bartow’s only two hits in the game, singled to start the Bartow fourth inning. Isham followed with a walk. Zander, who had a second inning single, gounded into a fielder’s choice next in the Bartow fourth. An infield throwing error by Smyrna, however, enabled Groce to score on the play to tie the score at 1-1. Zander moved around to third on a pair of wild pitches during a strikeout before Noah Rogers walked. Noah Janssen was inserted as a special pinch runner for Zander at third base and — after Rogers stole second with two outs — Janssen scored on a wild pitch to put Bartow County ahead 2-1. Rogers moved over to third on that same wild pitch and then scored a pitch later on a passed ball for a 3-1 Bartow County advantage. Bartow advances to the second round Sunday at 2 p.m. against Harris County. Harris County defeated Athens Little League Saturday morning 15-1 in the opening round game for those two teams. Other first round action in the double-elimination tournament saw Dudley Little League outlast Peachtree City 4-1 and Martinez-Evans Little League topped Toccoa Little League, 13-3. The 2022 Georgia Little League Baseball state tournament begins Saturday with eight different district champion teams participating in the double-elimination bracket that will continue through Thursday, July 21. All games — hosted by Cartersville Little League — will be played on Rudy York Field and Joe Frank Harris Field at Hicks Park located at 51 Clearwater Street in Cartersville. District 1 champ, Bartow County Little League, will be in action Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against Smyrna Little League in the tournament’s opening round. Other teams in the 2022 state tournament include Harris County, Athens, Dudley, Peachtree City, Martinez-Evans, and Toccoa. The tournament champion will represent Georgia and advance to the Little League Baseball Southeast Regional in Warner Robins August 4-9. Bartow County Little League 10U softball defeated Hart County 4-2 Wednesday night, but lost to Harris County 8-0 in the championship round to finish as 2022 Georgia runner-up. Bartow 10U finished the state tournament with four wins and a pair of losses. The locals had two wins over Dudley Little League along with wins over Oconee County and Hart County. The losses came to Hart County and Harris County. 10U BARTOW COUNTY 4, HART COUNTY 2 Bartow pitcher Jayda White struck out eleven and pitched a complete game. She allowed three hits and three walks. Bartow scored in each of the first three innings and took a 4-0 lead. The two Hart runs scored in the fourth and sixth innings. Bartow got hits from Brooklynn Sellers and Madison Evans. The locals also took advantage of seven walks and three Hart County errors. HARRIS COUNTY 8, 10U BARTOW COUNTY 0 Harris County defeated Bartow County Little League 10U softball 8-0 Wednesday night in Warner Robins to claim the 2022 Georgia 8-10 year old state championship. Harris County was undefeated in the double-elimination tournament. Harris led 1-0 through three innings, before posting two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two more in the sixth inning to put the game away. Meanwhile, Harris County pitching struck out 13 Bartow batters in a no-hitter to keep the locals off the scoreboard. Bartow managed only three baserunners on two walks and a fielder’s choice. The Bartow 10U roster includes: Madison Brookshire, Savannah Effler, Cadey Evans, Madison Evans, Alyson Mitchell. Bartow County Little League 10U softball advanced to reach the final three teams of the 2022 Georgia Little League Softball state tournament Tuesday night with a 10-0 shutout of Dudley Little League — a team Bartow defeated 5-3 in last weekend’s opening round. The state tournament is being hosted by Warner Robins American Little League. The win sets up another re-match for Bartow against Hart County with the victor moving into the championship round against unbeaten Harris County. Hart defeated Bartow 6-5 Sunday night in the second round of the double-elimination tournament. Since then, Bartow has won two straight defeating Oconee County 12-10 Monday and Dudley 10-0 Tuesday. In Tuesday’s victory, Jayda White was again dominant in the pitching circle. She threw a complete game, no-hitter striking out nine. Dudley managed only three base runners — two on hit by pitch and one on an infield error. Meanwhile, the Bartow offense led 5-0 through just two innings, then added two runs in the fourth inning, one more in the fifth, and the final two runs in the top of the sixth inning for a 10-0 win. Bartow produced only three hits, but took advantage of seven walks, a hit by pitch, six Dudley errors, and a dozen stolen bases. Ansley Tummins had a double for Bartow. Khloe Shinall and White also added one hit apiece. The winner of Wednesday night's Bartow/Hart elimination game at 6 p.m. will advance to face Harris County in the championship round at 8 p.m. If an additional game is needed, the winner-take-all game will be Thursday evening. Cartersville Little League 11U baseball was on the wrong end of a walk-off Tuesday night and was eliminated by Harris County 4-3 at the Georgia Little League 9-11 year old state tournament in Athens. Cartersville 11U led 3-1 through four innings but Harris County scored single runs in the fifth and sixth frames to send the game into extra innings. Cartersville, playing as the visitors, failed to score in the top of the seventh and Harris County produced three consecutive singles in the bottom of the seventh to drive home the game-winning run. Braxton Lemon suffered the pitching loss for Cartersville in relief of starter Bowen Hardy. Lemon allowed a pair of earned runs on five hits and no walks working the sixth and into the seventh inning. Hardy gave up two earned runs on seven hits and three walks through the first five frames. Hardy struck out five. Lemon fanned two. Tyler Hickman paced the Cartersville offense with three hits including two doubles and two RBIs. Will Groce contributed a double. Lemon, Trey Smith, and Parker Huth added one hit apiece. Cartersville Little League 11U, who won the Georgia District 1 title to earn their spot in the state tournament, finished 2-2 at the state tournament and placed fourth. The Bartow County Little League 10U softball team defeated Oconee County 12-10 Monday night in Warner Robins in an elimination game at the 2022 Georgia Little League softball 8-10 year old state tournament. The win leaves Bartow 10U as one of only four teams remaining in the double-elimination tournament. Bartow built a 7-0 lead in the first two innings, but Oconee rallied to grab a 10-8 lead in the top of the fourth. Bartow County tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and took the lead for good with another pair of runs in the fifth. Jayda White started in the circle and closed for Bartow County. White fanned thirteen. Ansley Tummins pitched an inning and two-thirds recording three strikeouts. Alyson Mitchell and Brooklynn Sellers had two hits each to lead the Bartow offense. White, Tummins, and Madison Brookshire added one hit apiece. Bartow County 10U advances in the loser’s bracket and will play again Tuesday night at 6 p.m. against Dudley Little League. BARTOW LITTLE LEAGUE 12U SOFTBALL ELIMINATED BY HARRIS COUNTY The Bartow County Little League 12U softball team finished the 2022 Georgia Little League Softball Tournament in Warner Robins with a 1-2 record and was eliminated by Harris County Monday night. Harris County scored three runs in the second inning, four in the fourth, and three more in the bottom of the fifth inning to close out the 10-0 win. Bartow 12U had no hits in the loss. Bartow had a 15-5 win Sunday over West Point, but suffered losses to Dudley and Harris County in the double-elimination tournament.
- Cartersville Little League 11U advances, blanks Franklin County
Cartersville Little League 11U baseball won an elimination game Monday night at the 2022 Georgia Little League 9-11 year old state tournament defeating Franklin County, 8-0. With the win, Cartersville 11U reaches the final four of the double-elimination tournament and advances to another elimination game Tuesday night against the Peachtree City/Harris County winner. Cartersville pitchers Noah Leffew and Braxton Lemon combined on the shutout. Leffew made the start and completed five shutout innings. He scattered five hits and three walks while striking out four. Lemon wrapped up the sixth inning on the bump allowing just one hit and no walks. He fanned two. The Cartersville offense started fast scoring four runs in the first inning and three more in the second to take a commanding lead. Lemon finished with a pair of hits including one double and one RBI. Max Stepp also had two hits for Cartersville. Will Groce connected for a triple and two RBIs while Demetrius Wynn (2 RBIs), Leffew (2 RBIs), Trey Smith (RBI), and Parker Huth added one hit apiece.
